Sorry if this has been asked or discussed but we need to know this answer ahead of time. I'm traveling in 4 weeks to WDW and my friend who is joining me "may" need a scooter for a foot problem. I do not have a HA room at the Boardwalk and wondered if she HAD to rent a standard scooter would it fit into the room? I remember in past visits actually seeing some scooters parked out in the hall and wondered if they were just too big to fit through the door entry way??

I'm trying to gather as much info as possible so we won't have any "surprises" when we get there.

As usual, thanks in advance! ;)

I got my Pride 10 (which is the 'standard' off size rental size) into our room at CBR without any problem whatsoever. The ECV itself is barely 22" wide.

It might be more a case that there isn't enough room inside for the ones you've seen parked outside rather than the ECV being too wide to fit inside the doorway.

Thank you for that quick reply! I would imagine I'll need to call a rental facility and find out the "width" of their scooters first. If yours fit and it's barely 22" I could use that as a guide.

I'm hoping that someone who has rented from the local Orlando Rental companies will shed some insight.

But thank you very much!! :thumbsup2

Door ways will be the same size as all the rooms except suites the difference is what inside the room. Like bath ie shower Rollin grab bars and that kinda stuff. If you get their and you need furniture moved out just call house keeping and they will come up and either move it out of the room or move it to make it work for you. Like if the desk in the way or stuff like that they would be more then happy to work with you. I forget what a standard door width is but they all have to be a certain width no matter the resort or category. From value to deluxe the rooms will be bigger and your get different amenities in each respective category but each door opening will be the same width.

Thanks for the good information. I have a 1 BR at the BW. I don't even know if we'll need a scooter. I just wanted to make sure that it would fit through the door. :thumbsup2

You picked my favorite resort and one I always stay at they have good door sizes. Got a ha room and once didn't ask for one was just giving one and didn't notice a difference in the door only notice when I got in and saw the bath room.

I've rented from 3 different outside companies when I've been at WDW, and every scooter has fit through every door. The biggest challenge is more the hallway than the doors. For most rooms I've stayed in, I needed to get a "straight shot" through the door, and getting the scooter turned in the hallway to do so was trickier than it physically fitting through the door.

I'm a DVC member and the Boardwalk is my home resort. I love that place! Glad to hear about the doors just in case! :)

Hummmm... so if I understand you, from the hotel hallway, returning to your room, maneuvering the scooter into the actual room is a challenge. Or coming out of your room into the resort hallway.

I appreciate your help. I'm trying to get all the information I can just in case we need a scooter. Right now I know we're going to have a Rollator which will actually help me with my arthritic knee. What a pair we'll make! :rotfl:

I DID rent through a local Orlando rental company!

Regarding hallway widths and the sharp right turn to get into the room, if I could negotiate a U bend turn in the 3-wheeler Pride, then you shouldn't have a problem getting in through the door. What you need is a room which opens out inside the door - and preferably someone to open the door for you and hold it open (against the spring closure). We stayed at AKL last year for one night, and after going in through the door you walked down a corridor past the bathroom and kitchenette and it opened out when you got into the room. There wouldn't have been any room for an ECV in there, though - just as well I was just on a walking stick last year!

Well, hopefully it won't come to our renting the EVC. But there will be 2 of us and the good thing is that right now, my friends foot is on the mend. But since neither of us has ever been on a scooter, I'm trying to get as much info as possible. Thank you so much for your help!

The entry doors are the very same in the accessible rooms as all the other rooms.
We have specifically stayed at BW in an accessible and a regular room. They are the same except for the bathroom. As was already mentioned, that is true of all the resorts.

Most people think ECVs are bigger than they actually are. Even the park rental ones, which most people think are huge, are only 24 inches wide.
standard hotel entry door width is 36 inches.

Thank you all again for the good information. While I am optimistic about not needing a scooter, should we have to rent one I feel better about maneuvering it into the room.

Now the bus is another story! Heard a rumor that bus drivers will park it for you on the bus. Am I dreaming? :rotfl2:

Some will park it for you but they all should help you at least verbally park it. It is Disney policy for them not to touch the ecv but their have been reports of more and more drivers parking the ecv on the bus. Some might insist on it which they shouldn't they should only offer it but once you do it for te first may be two three times it be okay. They will be their to help all they can you allowed to take your time to load safely so relax have fun and enjoy your trip and your time on the bus.

Well I guess we'll deal with that if we need to. I'm really hope that my friend and I have no mobility issues but if we do we're ready! ;)

I see you're in Hartsdale. I'm not too far from you in the Bronx!

It won't be to bad using Disney buses they pretty good if you need to use them for mobility issues.

Yeah not to far from each other

Really, the only place that gave me problems was maneuvering into the room. But that was mainly due to being on the ECV while trying to unlock the door, open it, and drive through. Not on Disney property, but one of the resorts I stayed in, I was in a lockout that was a sharp right immediately after the entrance door, then a sharp left to pass the bathroom and get to the bedroom where there was room for the ECV to park and charge. That was really the only room that caused me problems, and those were primarily due to the quick sequence of turns and having to do it all by myself.

Don't let it worry you, its not as bad as you'd think. :)

Thank you so much for the clarification. I really don't think I'll need one, but if I do then I'll be a little more confident. My arthritis in my knee has flared up. Figures.....less than 4 weeks until it's time to go. I have a brace which seems to help and a cane. I'm renting a Rollator just incase. And, since this isn't my first time there, I don't have to rush anywhere. :)

Thanks again!

Don't want you to think i am harping on the bus issue but not sure if you have the rollator with you. Here your options

You can use the back door ramp so you have a flat even surface to walk up. Then sit and food it and hold it in front of you.

Second option ask the driver to kneel the bus and go through front door that only good if the driver pulls close to the curb. At the resort they tend to pull closer to the curb then the park so you best bet might be the back door. Unless the bus is close to the curb and the driver can kneel and you can go through be front door hen sit and fold it.

If their no seats the driver will call for another bus so to dont have to wait for the next bus it more enjoyable experience then riding the mta:):)

My sister and I stayed at Boardwalk Inn for the weekend Aug 23-24. She rented a Pride Victory 10 that fit through the doorway of a standard room with no problems. I held the door for her and would back it up to turn around in the room the next morning (she gets a little too nervous). It made the room a lite cramped but we were usually only there to sleep so no big deal for us. Hope you enjoy it there. It was really a lovely place and great location.
