Hi

We are updating our bathroom. We have the weirdest bath sizes and struggling to find a bath that fits. We are now considering buying a shower cubicle and have that fitted instead. I am worried that this would potentially stop us from selling our house next year. It needs updating we have to do it.

Would love to hear your views and how many this would stop people from buying by not having the option of chilling in the bath.

Cheers
xx

I was just going to reply on FB but, yes, I would never buy a house that didn't have a bath. I'm not even a big fan of baths but, still, it wouldn't seem right not to have one. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.

I bath every day. Sometimes twice a day. So, yes, it would be a big factor for me. If you were going to stay there for more than a couple of years, I'd say you should go with whatever works for you, but if you know you'll want to sell next year, I'd be inclined to keep things conventional.

Oh, but, "P.S." - my ex-husband recently sold a house with just a wet room (couldn't understand why he did it at the time) with absolutely no problem. It sold within weeks.

It wouldn't bother me, especially if it was a modern power shower, personally I prefer a shower to a bath :)

Me again! :o Having thought about it, I'd say that a new shower room would be a bigger draw than a bathroom (with bath) that needed replacing.

I love showers so it wouldn't put me off if I didn't have Matilda but as I do i'd need a bath. You may be putting off a lot of potential buyers with kids because the tub is essential in keeping the little angels clean :goodvibes

I like baths and showers equally so I don't think I would consider buying a house without a bath. I think if you want to sell next year then you're best to keep one. My Mum has replaced hers with a walk-in shower but as she is in a retirement flat this will be more popular with buyers who are going to be elderly and less agile. As I imagine you'll be marketing your house as a family home I think buyers will be expecting to see a bath there.

Personally yes, it would.

A bath is a big necessity for me as, due to a disability, I'm unable to stand for long in a shower and have fallen over a few times.

Plus, we'd need a bath in the future for bathing any children :goodvibes

That, and I just can't cope without a bath! :cloud9:

we are gutting our bathroom this yr and also putting a downstairs loo in, now our bathroom is quite small, bath, toilet, sink and i have thought about just putting a shower in and leaving a bath out... but really I think a bath is a must! especially selling the house to a family with kids!

sorry honey, have to go with the majority. in an apartment or something geared to a couple I reckon you can get away with a shower room but in a family home I wouldnt buy without a bath. having seen your bathroom i can see the problem you have though, space is at a premium and cant see how you could even shuffle it round without a lot of expensive plumbing work eekks!
hope you find a solution xx

Thanks everyone. I see what your all saying and I knew deep down a bath was a must. It would be a family home. I am going to look into re-enamaling or see if we can get a custom made one if not.

I find the beige hard to look clean. We wanted a white suite. If all fails then we will replace the tiles try and modernise what we have got. The suite isnt that bad its just not modern. Its a standard biege/cream suite. I want to start getting the house ready. I will look round, I cant be the only one with a bath of that size. :worship:

Thanks again,

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare to me, i have to say i love to have a bath so i would not like a house without one

I don't think I'd even look at a house without a bath - really hate showers. On a less personal note as others have said it was a necessity when the children were small.

I would also say that if you are definitely selling next year, just install a cheap bath now :)

It really depends on what type of house youve got and what market youre aiming for.
For families a bath is a must, for business professionals a shower is good-although they do like the odd soak too.
One of my neighbours has a shower instead of a bath and theyre finding it impossible to sell their house. Its been on sale for years, thing is they need the shower as theyre unable to manage the bath.

So id say keep the bath, it'll be worth it. :goodvibes

I would hate to not have a bath especially with the kids. Its usually a shower i have but would really not like the option of not being able to have a bath

I think I replied on FB but here's my opinion, for what it's worth.
If it's a family house (3+ beds) I wouldn't buy it, an apartment for a couple is a different thing. Even as small babies I bathed my girls in our big bath and they are only now getting to the age (7&4) when they want to try a shower. I love a powerful shower and just had a new one installed in a recent loft conversion but I could have fitted a bath in there but decided not to. I tend to bathe more in the winter months.

Without a bath, where on earth would I soak my curtains, oven racks and trays:confused3

As I've said I am gutting our bathroom this yr, I have loads of bath brochures which have various bath sizes in, the norm is 1700 long, but they have them different lengths
what size were you looking for?

I've just popped home from work to meet my friend's husband who's a plumber ( yes I know that sounds dodgy but it is on a professional basis  ) We have a small cantilever bathroom which hangs over the side of the house and I'm seriously considering taking the bath out and having a shower cubicle instead. Admittedly, when I spoke to him on the phone, he did say if we ever thought about selling the house it may be difficult.

On the other hand, we have such a small bathroom and we all prefer showers. As we have no intention of selling and no small children, I'm going to see if it is possible. Alot will depend on the plumbing and the cost

If I did have the intention of selling in the near future, I think I'd keep the bath.
Good luck .
