Worth it?

It was worth it for us! We went to FW for the first time our last trip in a Class C and LOVED it. We've stayed both on and off site - in Deluxe hotels and not-so-deluxe hotels -and I can tell you that FW was one of our favorites.

To me, something is "worth it" if at the end of the day, the money you have spent feels irrelevant because the experience was so wonderful. That was the way we felt about our stay at FW.

We liked it so much that I'm itching to plan my next trip there.

I'll add my two cents for what it's worth and at risk of repeating others, there is no other place to stay at DW other than FW. We have been camping here with our pop up for the last 3 years, usually staying 2 weeks at a time, but if you ask me it's totally worth it. Not just all the perks that have been mentioned before, transportation, no parking fees, stuff to do in the campground itself etc, but there is also the privacy you have with being in your rv and own campsite. No feet stomping on the floor above you, no voices carrying through the walls all that stuff that comes from staying in a room. And with you having kids even more, if you ask my two where they want to stay at Disney, they'll tell you in unisom the Fort. They truly enjoy it. I hope all the post here have helped, I don't think you can go wrong staying at the Fort. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Well worth it! We've camped at Disney and the perks are the same as if you were staying at a regular resort execpt you have the comfort of having your own space as regular camping - transportation and all!! And at a better rate

As for the question is it worth it? Since you have a MH I can safely assume that you like to camp I can't give a value for staying off site or with friends but I have done the math several times for my uncle to prove that it is cheaper to drive the MH to FW than to drive the car and stay in the on site hotel.

It seems to me that the people who have been lots of times don't think it's worth it any more. The people whio have been just a few times still think it is worth it.

I love camping and I love WDW, but I pretty much stay at timeshares now for a lot of reasons unless I can mooch off my sister at the fort.

My camping is done mostly at wilderness sites now. I'm trying to re-live my youth. And of course drink lots of beer.

i am also in the preliminary pre-planning stage of (hopefully) my first visit to the fort. We are in the same boat as you, family size-wise. We are a bit further away, coming from Southern California.
Plugging numbers into my calculator, i have found:

• If we drive an RV cross-country, EVEN at 10 mpg, we are still saving $500 off the cheapest airfare for our family of 5.
• Comparing the cost of the campsite for a week with the cost of the cheapest on-site accomadations for 5 (Family Suite at the all-star music resort)- $1408 savings!

Based on these calculations, we are saving almost 2 grand before we even factor in the cost of food, ammenities, etc.
These are the nunmbers I plan to present to my loving husband to try and get his approval!

Worth it all depends on each individual. Let me explain OP how it is worth it to me. I'm hooked on Disney - we got our popup because camping at Disney was the only way I was going to keep up with my Disney addiction.

What I mean is I don't particularly love camping - I like it and enjoy it but mostly I camp because it affords me the opportunity to go places and do things I couldn't if I had to figure in airfare, hotels and meals. My favorite resort is Wilderness Lodge but it's $$$. In June we are staying at the Fort for 10 days with tickets - around $2500. This same trip at the Lodge for example would cost me $4500. So I camp at the Fort because I can stay twice as long as I could in the hotel of my choice - for me it's "worth it" to camp at FW because I can stay longer and spend more time at Disney. As a plus FW is a great campground - actually it's more than just a campground it's an experience in itself.

No one but you can really decide if it's worth it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and as others have said - "be planning your next trip as soon as you pull out of the parking lot".

Worth it??? Definitely!!!! Yes, it is a very nice campground and we love coming to FW. However, I'm not real happy about the high price of the campground but we just swallow it and keep coming. We only go during the value season and I can't justify going when the price of the campsite is over $100. That's my limit that I will not pay. However, we love to bring our pups and enjoy having our own stuff with us so that is the only way we go to Disney. We are retired so we don't partake of alot of the amenities that the Fort has to offer but a family could stay at FW and never go to the parks. Like other posters have said, once you visit FW, you will start planing your next trip - it's addictive.

For those of you concerned about the cost - check offsite timeshares! We've stayed at three of them over the last 2 years and they were all great and the most expensive was $329/week - granted that was thru the military but there are lots of great deals out there. There is plenty of room, and one of them - Bonnet Creek is closer to Epcot than FW is and is actually on Disney property (sort of).

Is it worth camping at WDW?

We have a 20' Class C and are thinking of a vacation to WDW and staying in the RV.. Our kids are the perfect age (6,8,12).. We've always stayed off site (Merrit Island, with relatives)..

I'd really like to come down and stay for 6 or 7 days to have time to do everything there (we've only ever stayed 3 or 4 days before)..

Are there shuttles to take you from the campsite to the parks?

No, it is not. It is expensive to stay there, and extremely overpriced. I'll probably never stay there again, until the disney executives get their head out of their *****.
