We are in love with WDW, have stayed on site for many years. We rented points twice and were at OKW and Coronado Springs. We only can go every other year, so are wondering if we bought a resale with say 80-100 pts, banked the off-years, would that work? We usually stay in a Studio for no more than a week. I would love to be able to truly "go home" but need some advice from you guys who are much more informed. We go off-season, never during a holiday. Would it make sense to buy say HH if the price was right, and get the 7 month window at the Florida DVC properties.. Lots of ???
Thanks You can PM me or post here. ::MickeyMo

We were in the same boat as you, questioning a purchase since we only plan on going every other year. From the questions I asked on the board I decided to buy a small resale contract at SSR, (100 points), that I'm waiting to pass Disney's ROFR. I chose SSR because everyone on the board said "buy where you want to stay". I don't particularly care where I stay as long as its at DW, so the extra 12 years of SSR was what did it (plus I got a great deal on resale). So what I'm trying to say (sorry I ramble a lot) is I wouldn't buy at HH if you are really buying to stay onsite, I would look into buying at OKW, since you can can find a good price on that.

HTH!

Going off season, never on holidays, will afford you more availability at the 7 month window for sure. A small contract can definitely give you the vacations you want, and with banking and borrowing you can have up to three years of points for your vacations. Just beware.......you may want to go more often than you think when you buy in!

It would work but there are some "downside" considerations:

1. It can be harder to get a WDW DVC resort at 7 months out for some times of the year and your "off-season" comment does not resolve the issue. For example, the first two weeks of December are a WDW off-season but they are a very high DVC demand time, i.e., DVC off-season does not necessarily match WDW's.

2. Buying a low number of points resale, which can often be difficult to even find, can be quite costly per point in comparison to buying a high number of points. Reasons: (a) resale brokers tend to charge a set fee commission for a timeshare rather than a percentage and thus the seller of a low point contract needs to set a higher price per point than a seller of a high point contract to make up for the commission; (b) closing costs are more or less fixed regardless of how many points you buy, usually in the $350 to $500 range, and thus the buyer, who usually pays them in a resale, will actually pay more total dollars per point for a low point resale than a high point resale even if the quoted sale price is the same.

Try to make it happen, you will only see on site pricing keep going up over the next 50 years. You could occasionally rent your points to offset some of the cost on a larger contract.

hehehe...famous last words once uttered by yours truly. :rotfl2:

I remember that very conversation with DW back in 02 when we finally (after sitting on it for 10 years) dove in. We now notice every little excuse we can think of we are booking a unit, and flights to that special place. What's worse is now we are booking for 10 days rather than the original intent of "NO MORE THAN A WEEK" :confused3 On our last trip my DM, and DDad decided then loved it enough to also by a contract, and so did my DS, and DBIL. And we did a 130 point add on to our already 175 points. SO now between all of us we have 680 points to play with. Now my original plan of every other year (and believe me I said that's all we could do at the time also) has turned into added long weekends every year, 10 day trips all together. It's amazing we could find the time all of a sudden :wizard: when you realize another trip is just a phone call away. And with Airfares cheap like they are why not? :rolleyes1
