Worth it for one day?

Will be in the irvine area for business with my mom next week, the day we arrive, we land at noon & have no plans for the day, we love Disney World and are toying with the idea of visiting DL for the day, but from the crowd calendars the day looks to be crowded(8/10) is it worth it to visit even if we won't arrive until 1:30? Or should we save our money?

No, not in my opinion. We paid $150/pp for a one-day hopper back in May and it felt like such a poor value it actually soured us on Disney for awhile. It's really hard to be so close and not go, but I sure wish we hadn't. If your expectations are really low about getting on rides and you don't mind the price though you might try it. Don't say I didn't warn you!

Its definitely not ideal for getting everything done. However, I know that I could not be that close to a Disney Park and not go!
My suggestion to you would be to get a one day one park ticket and head to Disneyland with low expectations. Don't get set on the idea of getting all the major rides done. Focus more on soaking up the atmosphere. If you get on the rides you want then fantastic! I think if you stay until close you'll have fun and could do a good amount of things. Enjoy it!

You'd be surprised at how much you can accomplish in a day at Disneyland, even arriving in the early afternoon. Sure, it's a Sunday, but you should be ok. I'd go ahead with a Park Hopper and if it's just two of you, between FP and single rider lines, you should be able to do quite a bit.

It's worth it but I wouldn't get a park hopper. I'd concentrate on Disneyland. You just can't be that close and a Disney fan and not go!

FP works the same. I'd focus on the attractions that MK doesn't have or that are profoundly better at Disneyland like:


Indiana Jones
POTC
IASW
BTMRR
The Matterhorn
The Tiki Room unless WDW has done away with the Gilbert Godfrey monstrosity
All of Fantasyland but it may not be doable so Storybookland Canal Boats (at night), Alice, and Mr. Toad for sure

Depending on what airport you're flying into, you could be in the parks 45 minutes after you land I would definitely do a one day/one park ticket if you can stay until close. I would concentrate on the things that are not at WDW and/or are very different. As two adults, utilizing single rider and FP, you would be able to to A LOT in 10.5 hours. Most single riders will take less then 20 minutes to get on the ride, some even less. There should still be FP for everything in DL when you arrive. If you decide you want to check out CA, you can always upgrade your tickets too.

Sundays are my favorite days because it is busy during the day so you feel the energy, but after fireworks until close it really clears out. This is the best time to hit fantasyland. Most waits are less then 10 minutes that time of day, except for Peter Pan.

If you have the cash and the energy and you just can't resist and there's nothing else in the area that's cheaper or less exhausting that you have a burning desire to experience, I say you should go for it. Who wants to sit around doing nothing all day when you have just arrived in a new place? You should make a list of your priorities, utilize single rider and fastpass as much as possible, and be flexible.

There are two things that would worry me though: possibility of flight delays and the tiredness factor, especially coming from the east coast. Take these factors into consideration. Part of me thinks you should wait until you arrive to buy tickets, but then that is an extra time loss at the ticket booth. Still, it's a lot of money to outlay if say you have flight delays and don't make it the resort until much later than expected.

Sorry for the confusion, it will actually be a Tuesday, when I wrote 8/10 I meant the crowd calendar said the park would be an 8 out of 10. We are flying into john wayne & staying at an airport hotel, we have no plans until 9:30am the next day when our conference begins.

I'd go! As PPs have said, I couldn't be that close to Disneyland and not go Even if you just plan on enjoying the street performances and get a Mickey icecream it would be worth it! But I'm a Disnerd
