Worst Ride Break Down Story

We've had two.

1982- Senior Trip- Stuck on skyride 2+ hours. Saving grace- carfull of girls from Alabama in car near us. We were from NJ and had fun the rest of our trip.

Three years ago at MVMCP- stuck on Splash for 1 hour. We were near the big drop. Wind blowing through the mountain made this a cold wait. The strangest part was that Security was at the exit protecting the CMs from any guest complaints. It would have been nice for them to have had Hot Chocolate at the exit for all of us coming off the mountain.

:( :( :(

That's a hoot, FoF. When we were stuck on Splash Mountain last week, I wondered why there were so many security guards around when we finally got off -- at 1:15 a.m.!

I haven't really gotten stuck for any significant amount of time on a ride. I will say that I did get stopped on a Splash Mtn Ride. Then we finished and walked through the shop and were going to go on a second ride when the ride was stopped. They had closed the ride down which of course gets people irrirtated. I remember thinking what a pain that was how it shouldn't happen. Come to find out.......that was when the guy got killed at Splash Mtn (Nov 2000 I believe it was.) Later on we heard some sirens then we saw the news. I'm a very impatient person but......I'll tell you after that...if I get stopped on a Disney ride...so be it! LOL

My DW and I got stuck on Test Track outside on one of the high banking turns in the very back. We set there for at least 30 minutes (very uncomfortable-shoulder harness cutting into neck)before we were released to climb down the stairs and walk in the back entrance and see the employees lockers. We were at the farthest point away from the ride, so we were the last ones for the CM's to let us off.

A couple come to mind for me - one Disney related and one not.

On Splash, we got held up near the end right where the waterfall is that typically gets people on the right side wet. I know boats sometimes get stuck here for a moment or two while people are unloading, but we were there for much longer. Luckily I was by myself and moved over to the left to avoid too much water, but the people in the other rows weren't so lucky. They did eventually turn off the water, but by that time we were soaked. I heard some people change their mind about riding when they saw our group exiting thinking getting as soaked as we were was normal for the ride.

A more memorable experience in a bad sort of way happened at Cedar Point. Several years ago we got stuck on the big wooden roller coaster (I forget the name of it). One of those screeching stops. We at least were on a flat section, but were still easily a 100 feet in the air. Not a good situation if you were afraid of heights. Some CM's (or whatever they are referred to there) walked up to our cars and stayed with us. They were very nonchalant about the whole thing. They told us they may end up having to walk us all down. I don't know if they were serious or not, but that would not have been a good scene. Eventually they gave us a push and we made it the rest of the way around. We were there close to an hour.

This happened this past Easter Week. My BIL and his 2 DS where on Splash Mountain. It took over 1 1/2 hours to get off. They said they just wanted to get up and walk off but they were not allowed to.

They also said that all the CM's called in at once and jammed the phone lines, so no one knew what was going on.

That is the scariest part stopping on a ride, they don't let you know what is going on.

Probably my worst experience was on space mountain about ten years ago.

They had some type of malfucntion and shut down all the cars, we stayed like that for about 20 minutes. Then they put the lights on (I'll tell you space mountain is much scarier with the lights on it looks so flimsy!!!) Anyway we then had CM come around and tell us to stay put. They finally offloaded all the cars with the lights on about an hour and 1/2 later.

1980. I'm 13, DSis is 7. First trip to WDW. Rained the whole time. Bad for us. Great for mom, who throws ponchos on us and takes advantage of the uncrowded conditions (uncrowded because sensible people were home DRY). Made us go on IASW six times in a row because there's no wait and its her favorite. This story becomes family history, legend. Sis and I are scarred for life and can't hear the music to IASW without getting hives.

Fast forward to 1999. Sis and I are grown. She's a CM. Its our first trip down to visit her and our first trip to WDW since 1980. We get to IASW, Sis and I reluctantly board our boat, trying to indulge Mom. You guessed it, the ride breaks down, right in front of the little french can-can dancers. 15 minutes later I break out the video camera. Here's the conversation I got on tape:

Me to Sis: Where are we?
Sis: In hell.
Me: How did we get here?
Sis: Mom brought us.

Camera pans over to mom who is happily singing away.

Ride finally gets going after about 20 minutes.

I've never done IASW in the half dozen or so trips since then.

Thanks for the giggle Sarah! I can actually put a voice to your sister. You might of been on the same ride my friend was on, I believe she said it was her 1999 trip, she said it was broken down for 2 hours, maybe 15 minutes FELT like 2 hours??? LMAO

I torture her, I have a CD that is songs from Disney attractions, yup, you guessed it IASW is on the CD. I always play it for her when she visits.

MY DW has the best story. We were baby swapping and I had our then three year old DD while she rode Body Wars. This was back when Body Wars was a hot attraction and there was always a line. In the middle of the ride, the power throught EPCOT went off. It seems that a squirrel has jumped into a transformer and blew the power for all of EPCOT and MGM. My DW spent twenty tpo thirty minutes in the dark in the ride before they got her out. The air conditioning had cut off and it was getting rank in the ride. Plus some people were not good sports about the problem.

ROFL!!!!!:p :D

We went to WDW in March of this year and Test Track had an hour-long wait. We got in line anyway, and that hour wait turned into two hours when it broke down. ON TOP OF THAT, the air conditioning broke and it was the middle of the afternoon. It was absolutely one of the worst experiences of my life. I was glad to get on the ride when we finally got to the end just so I could leave! lol...
But so far, that's the only negative WDW experience I've ever had :)

::knock on wood::

ok, we weren't exactly "stuck," but here goes...I was about 13 or so, so this was probably about 1995ish. We go to Splash Mtn first thing. We go through the line, put our feet in the boat, and are told not to sit, to keep coming off, that it's broken and we can't ride. Well, annoying, but ok off we go to Thunder Mtn. CMs at the bottom of the hill saying it's closed due to technical difficulties. So we go to Space Mtn. (this was our normal order anyway) and there's a HUGE line outside...We wait and they keep saying it's about to open it's about to open its....oh wait, it's closed for a few more hours. The CMs told us to go to Town Hall and they'd give us front of the line passes for all of those rides...And they did for Splash and Thunder! At the time it was difficult to get to the front of the line for Space...but it was CRAZY! It would be our luck for all of them to be broken at the same time! Too funny!

Yes, Test Track is one of the most noted break down rides. It is usually caused by condensation on the track, that makes the computer nuts, and it can't find the car on the track, and shuts down. The other is that each car is 11 seconds apart, if it gets any lower, the ride will stop. No fear, I always tell people, it is the safest ride in Disney World. I can actually say I have never gotten stuck on it, all the times I have ridden it.
