Hopefully this might help someone else :). We had an Ohana breakfast last week (we go every year as Stitch is a favorite character for my boys), and had a somewhat terrible experience. The server did not refill our drinks at all and never asked us if we wanted food refills. A long time passed, and I couldn't find her, so I walked up to the front and found the host who seated us (Fern - he was great :)), and asked him if he could help us. I did this so I wouldn't sit there and get more and more upset.

He found our server and she quickly brought out more juice, but added a snarky comment - "I was in the parade, didn't you see it?" This would have been fine, but we were out of drinks well before the parade started. I work in a service job, and I think the proper response would have been, I'm sorry, what else can I get you? Anyway, before we could respond and ask for more eggs and bacon, she disappeared again!

After a while, Stitch was coming close to our table, so I decided to sit tight and wait for her again. It was a few moments later that Stitch walked right past our table. Now, I know that this was an accident, but it was the last straw. It may sound silly, but at this point I was in tears. When you get up for a character breakfast, you don't expect to have to fight for your drinks, food and characters.

So, I went and found Fern again and through my emotions (I was probably tired too ), I told him I did not even want to see that server again. To put this into perspective, I have NEVER done anything like this. I'm normally the person who quietly slinks away and hopes for a better trip next time. It was just sad to have a long anticipated traditional Ohana breakfast ruined. At this point, most of us were too stressed to eat more breakfast - we just wanted to leave.

Well, Fern apologized, disappeared for a long time and after a while, our server came back out and was very sweet. I really didn't want to deal with her, but whatever attitude she had if she had it, was covered up. She spent time talking with the kids and showed no ill will. If I was her, I would have harbored some resentment towards us, but like I said, if she did, it was covered up. She didn't apologize or bring it up in any way, but she did find Stitch for us and she was very attentive.

The sad thing is, we tend to be easy customers and big tippers. I'm not sure what happened with her, but it really did ruin our breakfast.

sorry to hear you had a bad experience! when that happens (never seeing the server) to us i flag down another waiter. did you call stitch, maybe he was new and didnt know he skipped you? luckily we've had great breakfasts at Ohana, but once we didnt get to see stitch b/c he was on the other side of the restaurant the whole time. we could've asked to see him but we didnt.

One time at 1900 Park Fare we had the WORST server ever. I didnt let it get to me though, which can be hard sometimes. We were seated and told our server will be by for our drink order so we waited, she never came.. so we gave up and got our food. Still no waitress. By the time we were done with our food the other nice waitress nearby noticed we had no drinks and took our order. On our second round of food we finally saw the waitress and she cleared the first set of dishes. We didnt ever see her again! No refills, nothing! Thankfully the other waitress took care of us. At the END our waitress came to give us the check and asked if we were on the DDP, she didnt give us the check she just asked, we said yes and she said she'd be right back....waiting, waiting, waiting, she finally comes back and gives us the check. And she never asked how we got our drinks or appologized for her inattentiveness. Oh well! we gave her a written "tip" instead of a monetary one. (nothing mean). It wont keep me away from that wonderful breakfast buffet though.. going in 2 weeks!!

We usually have great breakfasts at Ohana too, and this probably won't keep us away either . The opportunity just wasn't there to call Stitch back - I might have been too slow - he was halfway to the other side of the restaurant before I could believe it :goodvibes. Anyway, I think this was just a fluke and probably won't happen again - just some bad luck and for some reason bad service (at the end, our server seemed very nice - I'm not sure what the deal was with her).

My breakfat at 'Ohana was interesting. I was with my niece who is lactose intollerant. The chef came out and figured out/told us what she would make for my niece.

Then the skillet arrived with the bacon, eggs and sausage. I never got any bread or waffles. Many people might not care but since bacon was the only thing I like-I cared. So I had to ask for waffles. The waitress said oh there is an allergy at the table so they don't bring it to your table. I told her that my niece had the chef make her some dairy free ones and I would like waffles. I then got waffles.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. I've been to O'hana's 3 times and all 3 times service was lacking. I am not a queeny person and do realize Disney restaurants are very busy, but when you have to ask someone to find your server more then once. Yes, poor service can ruin the magic. I will not be returning, 3 strikes and your out.

We will be dining at O'Hana for the first time next month and I am hoping for a better experience, esepcially since we are not on the DDP and will be paying out of pocket- so this will be a big check for us. I am a fair tipper, but I question in this kind of environment how to tip, since we are paying signature prices for basic service. If we pay around $150 for dinner, then 15% would be $22.50- there is no way I would tip that much based on the experiences I have read about here. I would be glad to tip that or more for very attentive services. Seems that you got bad service by even buffet standards. I guess we will just have to see.

So sorry to hear about your experience! I hope it doesn't stop you from returning next time, from most other reviews it seems like a great place! :)

We have had really great & really bad experiences with O'hana and it's a shame because when it a good day it's a great meal but when it's not...

Unfortunately we probably won't be back for a very long time. :sad2:

I am glad that they were at least responsive to your complaints.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience! I totally agree with your statement above and that is why it will be a long, long time before we venture back to Chef Mickey's.

What a bummer! My biggest pet peeve when dining out is not being able to find my server when I need him or her, and running out of a beverage, which is obviously connected to the first issue, is a very close second in my list of pet peeves.

I've never experienced being skipped by a character, but can only imagine how frustrating that must have been, especially on top of the other service issues.

I'm sorry for your poor experience. It sounds like you'll give it another try, and I'm pleased to hear that! I hope it will go better for you on your next trip.

Since I have two boys who love Stitch more than anything else at Disney, we'll most likely be back :rotfl:. Being skipped by Stitch wouldn't have been such an emergency since I knew we could ask and someone would bring him back. It only felt like an emergency because it was the last straw. I felt like I was a "dead person" in the Sixth Sense (I think that's what its called) and nobody could see us :rotfl:.

Fern should not have sent your original server out again after you said you didn't want to see her again. Sorry to read about your experience. It's disappointing to jump through all the hoops of getting into a character breakfast only to be treated worse than you would at Ihop.:earsboy:

Yuck! Sorry you had a horrible experience there! We have a party of six and every time we needed a refill we practically had to tackle a server to get them to refill the drinks (this was at every TS restaurant). It sucks that the service is lacking at all the restaurants :(.

We've been to Ohana a number of times, for both breakfast and dinner, and have never had anything but a great experience. I will say, we haven't been there in recent years and I'm reading a lot of negative reviews about the Disney restaurants in general lately. There is some discussion regarding the cause, real or percieved, of this decline so I won't go into that here. I will say that such problems were unheard of prior to the last few years.

We went to the O'Hana brk once and we too ran out of refills. Then we just gave up and left. The rest was fine but the waitresses seemed FRAZZLED.

Maybe they're not staffed correctly :confused3. Or maybe its a crappy place to work. The first few times we went to Ohana, it was great. Fun, playful interaction by the characters and servers who seemed glad to be there. If the work atmosphere is bad or if they're understaffed, I'm guessing that will trickle down to guests.

Sorry about your experience. I'm normally not a "crier" or "complainer" either but when I think of all the planning and hopes/dreams put into this trip I could easily see myself getting that way too. Hope you'll have a better experience next time.
Stacy

We have had two bad experiences with the breakfast at Ohana and have decided not to return on our next trip. This last time, Stitch walked right past our table when we were the next in line. It took us 15 minutes to get the attention of our server who finally flagged Stitch down for us. My little guy was in tears thinking that Stitch didn't want to see him.

In contrast, we have had two wonderful dinners at Ohana. I am not sure what the difference is. :confused3
