AnnetteF said:I'm glad I'm not the first one to say it since I know I'm in the minority on this but I hated Phantom of the Opera when I saw it on Broadway, too! I'm a person who LOVES musicals. I have seen and am a huge fan of Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Wicked (had to have the soundtracks and still can't get enough of them), and a long list of older musicals, but I just don't get this one. None of the music was memorable to me except for "Music of the night" and "All I ask of you" which I had heard before seeing it and I still don't think they are such great songs. There are no upbeat musical numbers. There are no happy or comedic moments. It is just a bizarre, dark and depressing story. I tried watching the movie when it came out to see if I felt any differently about it, but I came away with the same feeling.
Well the only 2 I have been to recently are the nutcracker and lion king. I thought they were both equally horrid and hope to never see another show, musical, play or the like again.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Never saw the stage show of either, but they have been on television dozens of times, and I can't tolerate more than a few minutes. Blech.
Belle for President said:I thought Aida was pretty bad, actually. Over-produced, repetitive music.
I have yet to run into a musical I haven't liked!
