Worst change in the last 10 years...What do you miss most

No question - the DDP. Attractions come and go, but they don't alter the way I visit DW. The DDP has. We find ourselves in Orlando often - at least 1x a month - and we used to love just being able to pop in for dinner at whatever restaurant we felt like going to. Now, not only have the meals become more uniform and bland, but it is nearly impossible to walk up and get seated. Even if we knew a couple days ahead of time where we would like to eat, we could not get a reservation. So now we are pretty much limited to CS restaurants when we are at the World and don't ever pop in anymore.

When I was little and we went to WDW, I remember my mom making the dining reservations right after we entered the park. When we went back 3 years ago (?) and tried to do the same thing NOTHING was available. Last year we did the quick service restaurants.

I never want to plan out my vacation that far in advance.

Heck, all watches come off when we are on vacation. If I hungry, I eat, if i am tired, I sleep. I don't want have to figure out that 6months from now everyone in my group will be hungry at 6:32 PM, 45sec and will be sitting down to eat.

Unique shopping and food. Go to nearly any store or restaurant and you will find the same items at what I feel is 90% of all places.

I miss the Wonders of Life (All of it!), Alien Encounter (Yes, I know I'm not in the majority there, but I did read a few other "shout outs" for it!)

Speaking of dining - Does anyone else remember those video screens at Epcot you used to be able to walk up to, actually speak to and SEE someone working in dining reservations, and make your dining reservation for that day? Man, I remember the first time I used one, I thought that was just the coolest thing........

Yes that was soo cool, and it worked really well. I think the kiosks were at the entrance to world showcase - I clearly remember that there was a round structure with 4 to 6 screens and it was touch sensitive. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Yes. When it was a busy time of the season, they were great because we would always be at the parks first thing. When it was not busy, you did not even need to make reservations. I can remember going to any of the park or resort restaurants, even California Grill, and getting a seat within 15 minutes when it was off season.

OMG, that is exactly what i was thinking of!!!

Imagion if WDW brought it back but insted of a CM on the screen, they put a Disney character. How cool would it be for Roz to take your reservation. It would defendantly be more magical then making reservations 6 months out on the phone.
I hope I wouldn't get Dori, it would take a while....

Only magical if you didn't care if you didn't get into the restaurant you wanted. Demand for seating has increased exponentially since then. And do you really want to start each park day standing in a line for this? You know, instead of riding something, or getting a fastpass?

I'm struggling with the 180 day thing too. But if the demand is there that far out, imagine what a feeding frenzy (pun intended!) it would be if it as all day of ADR's!

I also dream of the days when the parks weren't packed to the gills year round. But Disney doesn't, so I don't expect that to change either!

I went for the first time when was in 5th grade and didn't return until some thrity years later with my own family.

I definately missed the unique shops on Min St. The one I would have loved to show my kids was a peny arcade type place. It might actually have been called that. You could put a penny in a machine and watch an old silent movie-you turned the crank and the stills flipped until in "moved." I think there was also a fortune teller that you could put a penny in and a fortune would pop out. I especially miss Twenty Thousand Leagues. My kids would have loved that! Thak goodness for youtube!

That was where Buzz Lightyear now is, correct?

The Timekeeper was in the Metropolis Science Center, and was replaced by Monsters Inc. But was listed as a "seasonal" attraction WAY before Monsters.

Buzz Lightyear replaced "If you Had Wings" which became "If you could fly" then "Delta Dreamflight" then "Disney's Take Flight" finally, to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin!

The Tapestry of Nations parade was the most beautiful thing Epcot ever did.
We still cry when we hear the soundtrack.
I LOVED that parade and was devastated when it left. Still don't know why...

Fantasmic being nightly. The change has made DHS so much more crowded on days when F! is showing that we just skip DHS on those days. And the change makes DHS feel much more like AK--not a full-day park.

Kitchen Kabaret with Bonnie, and oddly enough, the Magic Store on Main Street with the neat Disney costumes, and (another weird one) Aunt Polly's on Tom Sawyer Island. My Mom said we had to have a "Disney time out" and that's where we went--I loved to watch the people in the park. It was a fun way for my Mom to regain her sanity....

Last time I went to WDW was exactly ten years ago (going again in June), and I remember REALLY liking the Ice Station Cool, or whatever it was called that had an igloo you went into at EPCOT. From what I've gleaned on these boards, it's kinda still there, but no longer the igloo I remember and was looking forward to showing my girlfriend.
