In heard a list of some really awful cars and I am grateful that I didn't have any of them. On the list was the AMC Pacer, The Ford Pinto, The Chevette, The AMC Eagle Wagon, the Aztec, (maybe because it was pointless?). Personally I would include the Gremlin, The Golf, The Suzuki Samarai. Any car you want to add?

I know folks get huge laughs when I say I owned a Yugo but let me tell you that was one of the best cars I've ever had. When I got it it had just under 2k miles on it and when it finally died it had well over 200k. I only paid $1800 for it and I think I really got my money's worth out of it.

The Chevrolet Vega was supposed to be bad because of the engine that had rust issues. The Chevrolet Corvair had issues with handling and rolling over because the engine was rear mounted which was caused by an uneven center of gravity. My aunt had a Corvair and loved it and my father had a Pinto and never had any problems.

I'm sure I'll think of others.

OMG we had 3 of those cars in our family!!! My parents had a yellow Ford Pinto wagon & then a light blue one (thank goodness my mom totalled BOTH of them)...and DH's first car was a baby poop brown Chevy Chevette hatchback.

Memories...light the corners of my mind....misty water colored memories...of the way we were!

My brother-in-law is on his fifth or sixth Corvair. This one has a Chevy 386 V-8 that takes up the entire back end of the car. He likes to go fast.

The worst car with which I have personal experience is the Chevy Cobalt. No power, no class, and the transmission hangs down in front of the front tires. Don't bump a curb or you'll disable the car.

My mom had a Gremlin back in the day, what a horrid, horrid piece of junk. We all used to cheer when it got up to 55mph.

My late husband and I owned 4 Ford Pintos over the years and they were great cars. One of them got totaled when I was hit from behind and I walked away without a stratch.

My Dad had a Pacer!! It was the only brand new car he ever bought!! It turned 100,000 miles as he passed the dealer (yes...we heard that story a lot!!)
It looked like a fish bowl....and I have 3 brothers we used to cram back there!! Our other car was a station wagon, but we always took the Pacer on long trips since it was*new*.

My grandma had a blue Pinto the whole time I was growing up. I mean that thing lasted forever, and when she died my uncle drove it.

I think my other grandparents had a Chevette.

My family apparently has no tastes in cars.

Wasn't the Edsel a big laughing stock in the 50's?

I learned to drive in a BRIGHT yellow Pacer, going up and down the hills in a local campground! :lmao:

The Vega engine was aluminum. It didn't rust, it overheated and the head warped. The Corvair's problem, which was highly exaggerated by Ralph Nader, was not the engine's position but the swing-arm suspension which could handle poorly under extreme circumstances.

I would add all the GM X-cars to the list.

I knew it was something with the Vega's engine that basically killed it. We had a 1981 Citation and it was the best car in the snow we ever had.

My mom had a horrific Ford Probe. It probably only got to 50K miles (and she took care of it!) before just breaking down on the GW Bridge on the way to a funeral for seemingly no reason.. :sad2: I think it ended up being a problem with the transmission. Horrible gas mileage, too.

I loved my Vega. Granted it was a stick shift but that was the only type car we were allowed. We had to learn to drive a shift. I had a Maverick with the shift on the column for my first car. Dsis got a Pinto and she had to carry water with her because it overheated all the time. But we are talking about cars our parents paid $500 for.
Thanks to those cars, I was able to drive anything with a clutch. Grain trucks, pick ups, farm equipment, semi, tow motors. I think I came out on the good in because of it.

I bought a Dodge Neon the first year of that model. I don't know if it was the Neon, or more the fact that it was first year, but so many problems!

A yugo! hahahahahaha thats hilarious! I havent heard that name in AGES! so it was a good car huh? glad it worked out for ya! :thumbsup2

The worst car ive EVER owned was a chevrolet cavalier. I had nothing but problems with that piece of junk from day one. NEVER again chevrolet.

Don't forget the Chevy Nova! It wouldn't sell in Mexico because in Spanish Nova means "no go"!
