We go to disney in under 4 weeks.
And yesterday i had to go to the dr's since last friday i have been suffering heart palputations. (sometimes beats too fast, sometimes misses a beat).
I have put it down to stress, one with the holiday and getting things sorted and loads of family disputes.

Anyway the doctor has said as a precautionary measure (my father died when he was 43 from a massive heart attack),he thinks i should have 1, blood tests (having them today),and a ecg scan on my heart (cardio) but the ecg scan is when it comes available so that could be days to weeks,to months.

I feel fine, sometimes they come (wondering if they are anxiety attacks or something),now im worried if they come back with something serious (the tests),we may not be able to go on holiday,we have travel insurance etc :( i dont know what to think,me and dp have agreed im going no matter what!! ive waited to long for this holiday :(

So thats why im worred,
Beth

P,s I am only 21,dont smoke or drink (lives a sheltered life)

Hi Beth

The key word here is the doctor said it was precautionary - I know it's easier said than done, but do try not to worry as it'll just make things worse. Look at it this way, surely if he really thought it was 'proper' serious I would think he'd be whizzing you in for an ECG immediately, not just popping you on a general waitlist.

It'll be alright I'm sure and Orlando is still calling your name :)

:( Oh Beth, I know exactly how you feel . . . in this Friday to hospital for scans for something which cropped up three days before we went to St Lucia.

Are you on any medication - heart palpitations can be caused by LOADS of different reasons, especially stress!!! Excitement for your holiday has probably caused these - mine do! DH gets them because he cannot tolerate "E" numbers in his food (nightmare, let me tell you!). I have to use asthma inhalers and one of them causes palpitations sometimes.

Easier said than done, but try not to worry . . . you'll be on that plane happy as anything sooner than you can think.

Beth

Stress can cause lots of physical symptoms......for me it's migraine which is not pleasant.
You didn't mention you had any chest pain which is good, and your GP is just making sure because of family history of heart trouble.

Relax.........holidays are supposed to be enjoyed (although, I think when planning WDW trips with military precision we need reminded of that ........) lol- ;)

Just to say when my fathers DR said the same thing he waited 9 weeks for the hospital appointment.

Even when it was more serious he still waited 3 weeks minimum.

Just what ever you do don't dwell on it or you will work yourself up and feel worse.

Hi Beth,

I can understand your concerns given your family history but now you are under the doctor's wing, firstly your blood test results will be through before your holiday so they will give some indication if there is cause for concern.

So may I suggest taking this one step at a time? Your head is probably crowded with "supposes" so....... if it's possible just concentrate on the test results and then take on the next step.

Do you have to wait for the blood test results? If so, as time goes by and you hear nothing that indicates the results were fine but to allay your worries, once you think they're back, call the surgery and just ask if your results are back and what they showed.

If your doctor feels there is nothing to worry about and that you should go ahead and fly and have your holiday, be reassured by that ........ but feel free to ask for support here as much as you like :)

Thanx everyone.
My blood results will come back next week, wednesday i have to make an appointment and go in as he wont give them over the phone.
I have calmed down alot than what i have been over the past day or so.. im putting my mind into the holiday, got to get clothes etc,and just hoping that they come back fine.

Doctor knows i am going away in 4weeks,he asked was i worried about flying and i said yes,i always have done, ive been on holidays loads of times and even last year to america but i still suffer the anxiety of flying and something happening and i think this is what is causing these palpitations.
The dr also listened to my heart all fine there, and also my blood pressure and he said that was "superb!" so now its these blood tests and then the ecg, which im hoping can be done after my holiday!

I'm glad im getting it checked out though, and these results will indicate more, and i'll know more etc..

I'm hoping i wont be told not to fly,i cant see why? but it could happen? i suppose?

Thank you everyone :)

Beth

Hi Beth,
Try not to worry. I get both these symptoms a lot and have been properly checked out and told they are when i'm grossly overtired, my system "crashes" and lots of things don't work properly but it isn't life threatening just uncomfortable and scary.
If you are seeing the Doc for your test results why not ask him for a mild sedative for when you fly and see if that helps.
Whatever happens I hope you have a great holiday, I'm sure all the Pixie Dust flying around this board will help,
Love,
Carol

Hi Beth,

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much about all of this because if it is down to stress you'll just make the problem worse. I too suffered from heart palpitations although I was pregnant at the time the hospital was going to send me for an ECG but they went away of their own accord. For me I think it was the anxiety of being pregnant with my first child!!

Hope you get things sorted out soon though and keep us posted.

Lisa

Hi Beth

I hope things get sorted out for you [[[[[[[[HUGS]]]]]]] and pixie dust heading your way.

Im sure you'll be fine:)

My DD suffered with heart problems in 2001, and 10 days before we were due to fly to WDW we were told, she couldnt!!!!, we did pay for a second opioion, but was told the same.

Im sure if youre other tests have come back fine you will have no trouble with the blood tests.

The good news for us at present is DD can come with us on our trip in 2005 having missed 2 trips to WDW!!!.
