I read on these boards and the AKL reviews are very good overall. I read Tripadvisor and at least half are negative! Why the discrepency?

Because people who have a problem and are upset with something that went wrong on a trip are much more likely to go to a travel site and post about the problem. Someone who comes home happy or whose trip met their expectations doesn't think as much about going onto a travel site and posting about it. People need to vent. Don't worry about it and have a great time.

There are many negative reorts on Trip Advisor. I'm not sure what the deal is either. I just try to stay away from there.

Don't worry about it. For EVERY resort at WDW I have read at least one horrible review but that doesn't keep me from staying at the ones that I want to. I've heard people say the Polynesian is a dumpy tiki themed days inn and people say AKL looks like the projects w/a lot of overgrown grass. :rotfl: And those are my two favorite resorts! -Steph

There will always be people that post negative comments about different resorts. Personally, I LOVE AKL.

Not sure, but I just read in our Travel section in today's paper to take the Trip Advisor's reviews with a grain of salt (my words) basically because they are an annonymous source, and sometimes the posters havent even stayed at the resort in question...

whereas here at the Dis, you have more of a balanced report, people that are disgruntled with resorts do post their negative experiences, and often times conflicting posts follow with positive experiences, which imho reflect life!! And here I often find helpful suggestions on how to deal with negative problems... (getting a manager for one!! Being very polite for another...)

I've noticed that tripadvisor seems to have a fairly large amount of negative reports on not just disney resorts, but ones from all over the globe. I'd don't go over there much anymore.

We nearly changed our up and coming trip to AKL after reading reports on tripadvisor, then found the Dis boards and the reports seem far more truthfull We are now so close to our vacation will soon be in single digits.

People that have a GREAT and WONDERFUL vacation tell their friends and family and show pictures and start planning their return trip.

People that have a HORRID vacation posts on trip advisor.

And those of us that have unpleasant experiences during our wonderful vacation, write unanswered letters while planning our next vacation :) and posting here.

I agree, more people are likely to complain when they have had a negitive experience then compliment when there trip was flawless. ;)

I read Trip Advisor for each hotel I stay at and I find that 9 times out of 10 I don't agree with the negative reviews I have read (after staying at the hotels). I think more people post negative reviews out of frustration due to their bad experiences. Not as many people take the time to write about the good experiences. However, if there are too many negative reports, I might consider switching to another hotel.

I think the people on the Disboards are so excited to receive helpful info. about Disney that in turn they post as much positive feedback as possible.

I was so upset after reading Trip Advisor....every hotel I looked up had so many negative reviews. I almost didn't want to stay anywhere. I had posted the question on the disboard and was told by some that the reviews were dead on. However, after talking to people that I knew that stayed in some of the hotels in question...I'm not sure I buy Trip Advisor. I'm now starting to hear that they really shouldn't be trusted.
