I hope this hasn't been asked already too often. I tried to find it on here (honest! I did!)

DD (9 now, but will be 10 next June when we go) wants to eat at Chef Mickey's to see the characters. She likes chicken nuggets and mac & cheese, which appear on the child's part of the menu. However, she will no longer be a "child." How is the buffet set up? Will she (or any adults in our party) be allowed to take from the kid's selections? Or will they check IDs and throw us in Disney Jail?
I am of course fully aware that all 4 of us will be paying the adult price. No DP since we're staying offsite.

Don't know about CM, but all the other buffets I ate at it seemed there were just as many full grown adults grabbing chicken nuggets and mac n cheese as there were kids!! I think it's for everybody, that's just an option for picky eaters - who may or may not be kids!!

the only difference is she will have to pay the adult price. anyone. (even 85 year old grandma!) can choose any of the "child's "options on the buffet.
chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, etc. many a guest was able to enjoy the " african fare" at the Boma beffet at Animal Kingdom lodge because theyknew the 1 or 2 picky eaters in their family could still get mashed potatos, french fries, mac and cheeses, etc.e tc

Seriously, pick a different place if you can get away with it to see the characters. No one will bother you with the buffet and who eats what, I usually eat from the kids stuff as does my wife and even then the food is terrible. Seriously, I think its worse than hollywood and vine in DHS and that gave me food poisoning. We were at Chef Mickey's last time and I brought a roll back to the table and my wife was so excited she was off like a rocket to find that roll. That's how bad the food was.

Also without the dining plan that place is a fortune. I end up going only because my son wants to see Mickey in the chef's hat.

Yeeaaaah - this :( It has been many years so my perspective may not be fresh but seriously, the food is not good AND the place was seriously wrecked with food on the floor and guests young and old running around. It was pure chaos and I will never forget it and will not go back.

As for the question of adults priced people eating food geared towards kids, don't worry about it. Disney is making a premium and does not care who eats what. Enjoy!

Like others have said you can eat from any portion of the buffet. It really doesn't matter. I helped myself to several servings of corn dogs at Tusker House.

That food has actually gotten worse and worse year after year. The year before it was actually edible.

This is why we refuse to return there, even with our kids asking for it. The quality of the food is not worth paying the price. Sorry kids.

No one has ever bugged us about eating items from the kids station. Everyone has different tastes and some days you just want a chicken nugget.

We don't do character meals, but it amazes me to see the number of adults at Boma filling their plates with kiddie food while leaving all the wonderful African inspired items untouched. Anyone who wants to eat off the kiddie table at any Disney buffet will be fine.

She is free to take whatever she likes - the "kids" food is grouped together, but the full buffet is open to all guests. Really, the only difference between child and adult is the price at the buffets!

They sometimes place the "kid's" buffet on a lower table to make it easier for kids to help themselves, but as PPs have said, anyone there can take it.

ETA: Not sure if they do this at CM's, but I've noticed it at other Disney buffets.

if I pay full adult prices... I use full buffet services. That includes taking a Chicken nugget or pizza slice from the kids area. What does Disney care if you pay adult price to eat nuggets. that's for you and your wallet to discuss ;)

Thanks everyone, that answers my question. And as for those of you who had less than magical experiences there...Your bad reviews are not the first I've read. But I've also seen a surprising number of good reviews for it. Maybe you just have to be there on a "good day." I may research some of the other character meals, but I was sort of looking forward to riding the monorail to the Contemporary - Lord knows we'll never be able to afford to actually stay there! Yes, I know I am free to go check out the resort any time I want without actually doing anything there, but we want to spend as much time in the parks as possible. Anyway, thanks again!

We are a middle aged party of two and always sample the kids menu at the buffets!
We have not been to Chef Mickey's in quite a few years (only had the breakfast) so all the negative reviews surprise me!
Has it gotten that bad??!
