not whining or starting trouble, but i have a valid reason for not being able to be around smoke or areas that hold smokers. my little one, olivia, was 6 1/2 weeks preemie and had lung disease at birth and didnt come home from the hospital for a month. she CANT be around smoke or even areas that hold smokers even when no one is smoking(the "junk" still lingers). do i have to be concerned about people staying in the designated areas? is it allowed in the dining areas? we have left a few restauraunts in chicago area that still have smoking and non ,due to the fact that the smoke still finds its way over to our table. there have even been a time people were rude enough to light up in non smoking and ask the waiter for an ash tray. i wigged out when the moron waiter actually brought one over.(the couple ended up moving to the other side:) )im not saying we have anything against smokers---you can do whatever you wish.:) :) i just wish if that if i want nothing to do with smoke, i or my little ones dont have to.

In the dinning areas there is NO smoking. The trouble I find is in the adult only clubs and sometimes out on the deck. On the deck, I just move.

Smoking is not permitted in any dining room, theatre, or the kid areas. This is strictly enforced. Smoking is not permitted in any cabin. While I've never been able to smell smoke in any of our cabins, I have found burns on carpet and desk. The bar/entertainment areas get pretty smoky after 9 pm (even in the non-smoking sections), but kids aren't allowed there. Unfortunately, they smell bad during the family hours due to all the late night smoking. However, you'll have no problem with your little one in most areas. On deck 9 (open air), people smoke pretty much all over, even by the kid pool. It kinda depends on your cruisemates....we've been on cruises where there was little to no smoking, and also on cruises that were downright foul in some areas.

One good thing about DCL is they do not allow smoking in the staterooms. Only on the verandah. You're little one shouldn't have any lingering "stuff" in the room while she's sleeping. Most other cruise lines do let passengers smoke in the stateroom.

The only time I had a problem with smokers was when we were at Castaway Cay on the beach, the two ladies in front of us, one would light up, as the other one finished. We were able to move our chairs eventually. Even the kids pool area is non smoking. I dont think you will have any problems.

Don't worry to much about the smoke. The only time we had a problem was when on our verandah - unfortunately the people next door smoked on their verandah and it blew over to ours - which was not nice, and on occasions we even had to close our door as it blew into our room.

It did bother me that the clubs allowed smoking. It really bothers my sinuses so I can't ever enjoy those activities. I wish the entire ship was smokeless. Carnival now offers a smokeless ship so maybe Disney will go that way someday.

I just read last week that Carnival was changing that ship (the Paradise) away from the nonsmoking thing. The article didn't say it was because they couldn't keep it full enough, but IMO that what you can read between the lines. Can't remember where I read it, but a Google or Yahoo News search should turn it up.

but if I get an inconsiderate smoker next to me they will get an expected wiff of some really bad smelling purfume!LOL

Most are very coniserate so you should not have to worry!

See ya real soon!

Yes. The Carnival Paradise is being repositioned to Southern California. It will no longer be a nonsmoking ship, because it will be the only Carnival choice for 3- and 4-night cruises from Southern California — so now it has to serve smokers and nonsmokers.

Carnival could have moved another ship in the same class to California, and kept the Paradise in Florida as the non-smoking option for Caribbean cruises. After all, Carnival has several other Caribbean cruise ships for smokers.

I can only conclude that Carnival concluded that a nonsmoking ship is not good business. That's a shame.

So, as others have noted, DCL will soon be far and away the best option for nonsmokers.

I just wish DCL would only make Rockin' Bar D a nonsmoking area at all times.

im just overly concerned- but for a good reason. last september when my friend and i cruised on carnival, i could not believe how bad the smoke was.....all public areas. we were felt like the minority being non smokers. even at dinner, the smell of smoke would find its way over to us. our cabin reeked upon checkin, but since we were upgraded 3 catagory, we were afraid to complain in fear of being downgraded again. i had to laugh, when we used the walk/jogging track, we ran with a girl from dinner. as we left the track, she reached in her fanny pack and pulled out a cig and lit up! she could barely breathe as it was....anyway, thanks again, i feel a little more at ease.
werener- i read that , too. thats too bad....my hubby and i were talking about going on that cruise poss. early fall next year for our anniversery.
scratch---hi!! its almost january:tongue:

The cabins are virtually smell free except for the bathrooms! But then again DD was not feeling good and she is very sensitive to smells.

I highly recommend an air fresher for the bathrooms and don't forget to put water down the drains found under the brush! Apparently this helps!

I'll let you know in January!LOL

Since your DD is sensitive to smoke, I would avoid the quiet cove & goofy pool areas on Deck 9. I had to cover my mouth & nose a couple times as we passed thru. The breeze hits you dead on as you walk forward on the ship & you get hit in the face with the smoke. I learned to use the forward stairs & elevator to get to the pool & topsiders to avoid this.

ibgraves--thanks for the heads up!what is the quiet cove??

That is the adult pool area. Just avoid the rear of the ship on Deck 9 and it should be better for you. I have asthma & am severely allergic to smoke so I had a terrible headache the couple times we did walk thru that area. We didn't go into the nightclubs so can't tell you about that, though I always find that I can smell where smoke has been. Like if someone smoked outside before walking by...it hits me. I have had to change seats before because of that when someone has sat down next to us. I didn't notice it anywhere else on the ship so you should have pleanty of space to enjoy your cruise smoke free with your DD.

............::yes::

I am allergic to smoke and had a miserable allergy attack on RCCL's Sovereign of the Seas. Smoking is allowed almost everywhere on that ship, and the walls are yellowed from years of smoking...ugh!
In contrast, Disney is pretty non-smoker-friendly while still giving the smokers areas in which they can puff. In 35 Disney cruises, I have never gotten sick like I did on Sovereign, although there are a couple of times when I've had trouble. The worst spots I've found are:
Rockin Bar D/Wavebands: As others have said, it is VERY smoky. They forbid smoking during the day, when families can use it, but there is a smoking section after 9. Personally, I wish they would ban smoking whenever there is a show. I'm sure it wouldn't kill the smokers to hold off for 45 mins. to an hour, or else they could step out and up to deck 4 for a smoke. Another bad thing in there is the fact that much of the smoking section is literally right behind non-smoking, so you could be sitting right in front of a smoking table. The ventilation is bad, so you might run into the smell as far as the hall and even the guest services area on deck 3.
The verandahs: This is not usually a problem for me, since I like stateroom 5650, which only has a neighbor on one side. But two cruises ago, we were next door to a chain smoker who always stood at the verandah rail, right on our side, to smoke. I am not shy about speaking up (I've dealt with plenty of rude people lighting up in the non-smoking sections of restaurants), but I didn't feel it would be right in that situation because technically she was following the rules. But other than that, we haven't had a really bad verandah experience.
Castaway Cay: As someone else mentioned, if you choose a chair near smokers, it can be miserable (and of course there is always the fool who thinks it's cool to light up a cigar and share the stench with everyone around him). Since you never know who will sit next to you, choose chairs that are not too close to others.
The hallways by the staterooms. This is a sporadic problem, and I've never been able to figure it out. The most recent time was our last cruise...the deck 5 aft hallway reeked! I couldn't figure out whether some discourteous person was smoking in their room or whether they were doing it outside with the verandah door open (the wind draws it in). But every evening we smelled it when we returned to our room. This is a sporadic problem, so hopefully you won't notice it on your trip.
Deck 4: Often the odor of smoke gets inside on deck 4 because a lot of people go outside to smoke there.
I hope this info. will be helpful to you. Don't let it scare you...I'm just giving worst-case scenarios. Overall, Disney is a good cruise line for non-smokers, or at least much better than RCCL.

thanks everyone, you guys ROCK!
barb--thanks....im worried about going to the shows:( , my little mouse , olivia, stays up late and sleeps late, so i was hoping to bring her with to a few shows on the nights that we dont use flounders. maybe, should i bring her to flounders for a little while each night?? how is the "secret" deck on 7? it right outside our cabin door. the little secret deck is one of the reasons that we requested our 2 cabins:confused:
its comforting to see that i am not the only one who who cant stand smoke.....i was afraid that i would come across as a complainer:)

It's only the adult shows where smoking is allowed, so you don't have to worry. There are late shows for kids in Studio Sea, and it is non-smoking in there all of the time so if she's a night owl, you can bring her there with no worries. :D
I don't think you come across as a complainer, but since I have allergies problems with smoke, I guess it's no surprise that I'm sympathetic. But I think there are even some smokers who would agree with you. My brother is a truck driver and a VERY heavy smoker, but he will not smoke in the sleeper part of his truck and will only eat in the non-smoking section of restaurants because he doesn't like it around him when he eats.
