with these new airline regulations i'm worried about taking my portable dvd player on board...i will be flying next sat the 19th and i just wanted to know if you think that i'll have a problem taking it on...or should i just leave it behind (even though i really don't want to)

there are currently no restrictions domestically with regards to electronics. We are traveling monday with 3 ipods and 2 dvd players..

We just told our kids no DVD for the plane.

The reason we're doing this is that we're keeping our carry-on "light". Knowing full well that the more carry-ons the slower the security check points. Plus there is the added bonus of another check at the gate, if everyone takes a carry-on (I know everyone is allowed), the lines will last forever. I'll carry-on one bag for the 4 of us. The only things in the bag will be travel documents, my ID, camera, cell phone, meds and we'll take the mp3 players and gameboys. I pack the meds in a clear ziplock bag, the electronics and chargers in a clear ziplock bag. Keeps everything organized in my bag and easy for the security checkers to go through. We'll check 3 bags, with some clothes for everyone in each bag....

Our kids are 11 & 13 and we have a 2.5 hr flight a 1 hr lay-over (hopefully) and then a 1hr flight. They can certainly make due with the MP3's and the gameboys. If I had younger kids I might feel differently. With all the security lines, flight delays, it might be an essential travel item :goodvibes if you have younger children.

WOW!!! I love your considerate attitute!!!! :) :)
I wish more were like you. If they were, the delays would be really minimal.
Thank you!!!!

Here's another consideration...

While we're currently allowed to bring electronics as carry on, what's to say that we'll be allowed to do so on the return trip. That's my fear.

I'm not taking not taking my laptop anymore (I can find internet cafes if I have to and why make it take longer at security if I don't need to.) I may take my cell phone...not sure of that yet. The only thing I'm taking with me on the carry on is passport, travel papers, my camera stuff, cell phone (maybe), advil, 1 t-shirt, and a toothbrush. LOL

So we can't bring toothpaste but at least if my luggage gets lost, I'll have my own toothbrush and 1 clean t-shirt to sleep in.

I'll leave the vid camera at home :(

We are flying next Fri. the 18th and I will have one small backpack (the Nike drawstring kind) for the 4 of us. I will carry our vacation documents, magazines, camera, cell phone and CD player. I was thinking about bringing a portable DVD player but haven't decided.
