For the past couple of day my 6 year old kitty, Simba, has been lethargic and not eating/drinking very much. Yesterday my sister gave me a baby shower (baby due one month from today) and when I got home he seemed worse. We immediately called a nearby animal hospital that has late night hours (open 7 days a week till 2am). The Dr. examined him and Simba had a fever and seemed uncomfortable when his abdomen was prodded. We left him there while the doctor ran blood and urine test and he called us back in about 90 minutes and said nothing abnormal was showing up, including urinary tract infection, in those tests but now recommended an x-ray which we okayed. Once again, not much showed up although one of kidneys seemed abnormally shaped which could either be just a flaw in the x-ray or one of his kidneys could be shutting down thus causing some of his symptoms. The vet said the other kidney would take over in that case. So for now, the vet says Simba has an undiagnosed fever/infection and he gave him an antibiotic shot, Vitamin b-12 shot and some fluids and sent him home with antibiotic pills. We are to bring him in immediately if he gets worse, and then also on Thursday for a followup visit. If he gets worse, the vet recommends an ultrasound. So far he is about the same although maybe a little more active than yesterday. My DH was eating a hotdog and Simba actually begged a little for a bite which we DID NOT give him But still not eating/drinking his own food much. I am worried. I only hope I can give Simba the proper care and attention during his illness as I have my own pregnancy complications right now. I am a stressed out mess let me tell you and just needed to vent.
Thank you for listening.
