First time family going next April...Me, DW, DS (9), DD (6) with DDP
I've just begun researching TS restaurants and CS restaurants...
I'm worried that almost every CS menu I see has Peanut Butter.
Both my wife and son have a severe peanut allergy. Any peanut residue would be real serious.
I know at TS restaurants I can warn the staff ahead of time but what about the CS restaurants...
Are they careful? Are there any CS at the parks without peanuts on the menu? This might be a real problem!!

I think you should be fine. If I'm not mistaken, the PB & J sandwiches they offer at a lot of CS places are prepackaged (like Smucker's). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If this is the case, you should have no trouble. Enjoy!

Even at most TS places if the have peanut butter it is served in those single serve little containers. I don't know of one place that I have ever seen peanut butter served any other way. My suggestion would be to check the menu's of the places you plan to eat and just be very prepared of any place that uses peanuts in any way. I am sure this is how you live your daily life always prepared. Treat Disney the same....always question for safety.

I'm not sure peanut butter is on as many menus as you may think. My very picky son will eat PB sandwiches and little else. I searched all the menus specifically looking for places that serve PB and I didn't find all that many. I actually carried single-serve PB packs in my purse and ordered plain bread or a hamburger bun to make him a sandwich.

If you look at the speciality places (Mexican, pizza, Chinese, etc.), you'll be less likely to find PB on the menu. Those places often have kid-size versions of the food they serve.

I think if you examine all of the menus, you should be able to come up with a pretty long list of places that don't serve PB and maybe you could just stick to those places. It's true that some do have the pre-packaged sandwiches, but others make the sandwiches fresh so there's definitely a vat of PB in the kitchen.

Good luck!

One thing I'd suggest - if you do any of the buffets - tell the staff! They will be happy to walk you through the line and point out which things should be avoided. In some cases they can even offer you foods before they goout on the line - or an item before they put a certain sauce on it.

Disney is pretty careful about this.

As always, it's when you're in an unfamiliar place that problems happen - do carry your epipen and/or benadryl with you at all times.

A woman posted here some time ago about her daughter getting exposed to milk...and how she didn't think an exposeure was likely so she didn't have anythig with her....carrying Benadryl is easy. There's no excuse for not having it if yo'e got severe allergies.

The pb at all the parks CS is pre-packaged unrustables. Earl of Sandwich at DTD is actual PB sandwich made there. Pecos Bills in MK only dessert for a long time (could have changed) is PB mousse brownie--we didn't eat there because I figured the odds of trays, tables, etc with PB was pretty high. At TS and your resort room they will do a special allergy cleaning if you request it. Most of the CS places it's pretty easy to avoid peanuts because the few things they serve are almost always prepackaged now. I also avoid Boma, Kona, and Ohana and any Asian places because of the nut sauce. I'm sure they can make a nut safe meal anywhere I just didn't want to worry. The buffets in some cases do serve PB--definitely Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace. I think the only PB at 1900 Park Fare was uncrustables.

Even with the prepackaged sandwich you would probably want to be careful. I would think there would be places that are peanut free where you could eat since this is a common allergy ( I don't think that I saw pB sandwiches at every place we've eaten) . It couldn't hurt to call Disney and ask what your options are. I would worry about sitting at a table that someone had PB at earlier if the residue is all it takes for a reaction.( sticky fingers -you know) Maybe they could make a CM available to clean the tables right before you sit down. :confused3 Or what if you carried some wipes and gave the table a good wipe down yourself.

I think you should be more concerned about peanut contamination from peanut oil that might be used in a TS menu item. You need to make sure that you inform the host and your server in all restaurants. In most cases, they will confer with the chef or bring him/her out to speak to you.

I also avoid Boma, Kona, and Ohana and any Asian places because of the nut sauce.

Sorry to hear this. My DS has a severe peanut allergy and has had fabulous meals at all three. All will go above and beyond for you and the chefs and kitchen staff are fully trained on how to handle food allergies.

DCDisney, we also had fabulous meals at Kona and Boma with our dd12 who has multiple food allergies (soy, sesame, peanut, treenut, watermelon). Maybe you could talk to a chef at one of those restaurants?

Our DS 7 also has a severe peanut allergy. We have had no problems at any CS places in WDW. Of course we always have his Epipen Jr. with us just in case. We have also enjoyed meals at Boma and Kona Cafe. I have never tried Ohana. The peanut dipping sauce there concerns me.

Good luck!:daisy:

We did an article on dining at Disney in our July Newsletter.

If you go onto the AllergyMoms website, click on "Archives" on the left side and then go to the July Newsletter, you can read the article. There is a lot of info about how to proceed including phone numbers and email addresses.

I have a child with multiple food allergies including peanut and I cannot say enought about Disney. We dont eat out locally--only at Disney (world or land) They "get it"

Take care,

I was less worried about peanut butter residue on the tables at CS than I was on some rides. We always made sure our table was cleaned before we sat down. We saw many children eating pbj sandwiches while waiting in line for rides, so as an extra precaution, we washed our hands after rides. Don't get yourself too worried about it. Just use some common sense precautions and everyone will be fine. Disney restaurants do a great job of helping people with allergies. Don't forget to note the allergies if you make ADRs for any TS restaurants. Have a terrific time! :flower3:

I did see real peanut butter sandwiches on the buffett at Boma but every other place had pre packaged ones including Ohana.

I think requesting an "allergy cleaning" of the room is a good idea. We eat breakfast in the room and yep, last trip I took peanut butter. I'm still learning about these allergies, never thought of someone with a nut allergy getting the room after us. My son attends a "peanut free school". I'll leave my peanut butter at home next time. But I'm probabaly not the only one who has eaten it in the room, so be cautious there. (I usually find our rooms to be not as clean as I like.)
