Worried about Columbus Day Weekend

We are booked for Oct. 8 - 13th. I periodically check rates to see how they have changed. I just checked and it is showing no availability at RPR, HRH and Sapphire Falls for 4 people. It's making me a little worried about the crowds. Does it really get that crowded on that weekend?

We will be there the same week and I saw that as well. The crowd calendars have that time frame as moderate but now I am beginning to wonder if the crowds will be worse than the summer. I guess we have to have a different frame of mind and just be prepared for more people. Glad we booked early as Mac suggested the rates when up significantly from when we booked in Jan/Feb.

I booked back in February also and got a decent rate at RPR. Well hopefully crowds will die down after Monday.

Lots of peeps book early the cheapest rooms as HHN is a big draw. And for some if us, Monday is a free vacation day, so why not take the whole week. I found crowds moderate last year, as I came that Sunday and left that Friday. The Studios get really busy after lunch, as many enter before the close on an HHN night, to get a jump on the houses by staying inside the park's holding areas.

Oh, and I will be there the same time too. Check Mac's stickie, there's many of us going in October. If you would like to say hi, let me know. Will be checking into RPR on the 8th too.

yes, it will be crowded on the columbus day weekend.

i book 11 1/2 months out for my october stays each year in advance.
i usually am the pied pipper and telling everyone to book early if they go in october, especially for the columbus day weekend.

rpr is at around $270 on standard rooms during that time.
i paid $181.xx plus tax on a standard room for columbus day stay last year for this coming october.

take a look at the 2015 date and rate thread to see the prices from a year ago.
quite a few standard rooms listed in that thread.
and this years 2016 date/rate thread for october columbus weekend rates.....high $275.xx

some of us that posted in that thread are platinum loews youfirst members.
we book a standard room and get the free upgrade to a suite.

so the numbers you see there are based on the standard room rates for who had the upgrades to king suite.

i start my stay there before the columbus day weekend and i start to see crowds in the park that thursday prior.
it doesn't slack off until tuesday after the CD period.
tuesday and wednesday should be fine.
hell week comes up soon and it can be more crowds in the park from the high schoolers.

throw in HHN and that increases the crowds.

locals come for hhn and hit the parks on the weekends during the day and crowds due to that swell around 2ish in the afternoon
all waiting for hhn...
hit the rides during the day on the weekend and leave the evening for hhn houses , zones and shows.

hrh books up quickly as they have only 650 rooms.
rpr goes quick also. they have conventions going on so that takes up many rooms.

pbh usually is the last to book up and some dates they don't.

i have not stayed at Cbay so no idea how full that resort fills.
SF too soon to tell if they will get to a high occupancy during columbus day weekend.

saturdays and sundays for that weekend will be crowded in the parks.
with monday a day off for some working people, makes sunday just as crowded as saturday.

it slacks off at the end of the month for hotel occupancy

i've been doing hhn since 1999 yearly.
started to do the columbus day weekend in maybe 2004 or 2005.
each year since 2009, i see the crowds grow larger for that weekend.

i bet jujumama is glad she booked early!

came back to say something since i just read Lynne G's post.

do sign up for a meet up and put a name with a face.
a short 3-5 minutes to say hi is what many tend to do.

i'll be there from oct 2 to the 16th

Right now SF is showing no availability for 4 people for Oct. 8-13, can that be possible? Isn't that resort huge?

We are arriving early in the morning on the 8th so I reserved cabana 5 at the pool at RPR if anyone would like to stop by to say hello would love to meet some of you! We will be there all day and night! :flower1:

Well there are 1000 rooms and of that, 83 are suites at SF

If they are sold out for the dates you mentioned, could be due to Hhn

Sure I'll stop by your cabana and introduce myself that Saturday

Will you be there soon after you check in?

Our flight gets in at 8:45 AM, we should be in the cabana by 10:00, 10:30 the latest if all goes smoothly. I'm looking forward to meeting you!!

Good

I'll bring the homie family with me to meet you and yours

Quite a few friends will be staying at rpr
I have a group of nine that will be doing a private rip tour Friday night
It gets over at 2 am Saturday morning

Out of the ten of us, Bluer is the only one that wakes up early with the chickens.....

So will look forward to meeting up

Don't know when Lynne G checks in at rpr but she will arrive that Saturday

Super glad to book early Macraven thanks again. We we got a club rate of $284 and then I got greedy constantly checking hoping for APR rate and nothing beat it. This was still cheaper then what we paid for HRH in April so we are super appreciative :)

Does anyone know when hell week will be this year? I am still trying to decide on dates in late October that will work with the rest of the trip we have planned and don't want our first UO trip to be during hell week!

10 am?!?!? My clock starts at 11am!

I will stop by, I too am an early bird, but since I have a ticket still for that day, I will do early AK, unless they change the calendar again, grr. So, most likely around lunchtime, and hope the room is ready. Pool time sounds like a good way to start my stay, thank you for the offer. Double digits now. Wahoo!

I can attest, PC is never been seen early. LoL

I am staying at the RPR From the 8-10 and I feel completely intimidated by this whole Universal experience! This must be how Disney newbies feel before their first visit.

Lol, I'm up early everyday for work, I have a natural alarm clock.

And on August 11th, you'll be a pro sharing help with the newbies here!

After one visit you will remember the little things peeps have been advising others on

With each of your trips to the darkside,
You'll find more tidbits to use

I'm booked the same weekend (Oct 8-10) and hope to mainly take it easy/take advantage of early entry for HP and express pass for a few of the coasters. I'm resigned to the fact it will be super busy and we'll get what we can and leave the rest for June.

If you do EE on tour dates, you'll be ahead of crowds

Those that went to Hhn the nights prior could sleep in the next day

Hhn ends at 2 am in the morning and by the time peeps get to their room and it bed, could be close to 3 am

How many of those will be up to hit the parks at 8 then

Crowds on Saturday and Sunday usually start by 3 in the afternoon
Those coming for that nights Hhn, tend to hit the rides before the studios closes at 5
