Worried about changing online car reservation

Through Expedia, I reserved a car from a Sunday June 22 through Saturday June 28 using Dollar. My plans changed, and now i get to stay until July 2. When I called to make the reservation, the cost doubled for four additional days. I called another operater there at Dollar and that person told me that at the counter I could change the reservation at a daily rate that was much better, but they couldn't reserve it over the phone.


That sounds fishy, does it to anyone else? I don't want to get down there stuck without a car because it wasn't reserved, or have to pay hundreds of dollars to pay now. What do you all think?

I would make a new Dollar reservation covering the additional days and then call Dollar to tie the to reservations together so that you don't have to return the car in the middle of your stay. I would NOT just show up at the counter and try to add days as you would be at their mercy.

I would try to get a better rate for the entire length of the trip. Remember that a week is cheaper than 4 days and you get the weekly rate after day 5. As peg2001 says, don't figure that they will extend the rental when you get to the counter.
