hi

im flying from gatwick with virgin but we have a connecting flight from newcastle with british airways. im worried about athe recent farce with cancellations and delays. we are supposed to get into gatwick at 8.15am and our virgin flight leaves at 11.15am, which was pleny of time under normal circumstances. am i being neurotic to panic about this? reasurance please :)

also i have a crazy back up plan.

if we get to newcastle (we live in middlesbrough) and our flight is delayed/cancelled then i think we should just hop on a train to darlington and then get the flying scottsman down to london (it takes 2 and a half hours). anything to avoid missing our flight to wdw.

i have mailed BA about the flights being affected and you just get some silly really bad automated response that doesnt answer your question.

love

Hi Lucy,

It might be worth checking out (for your information) what other airlines are flying to gatwick from Newcastle on the morning you leave. Then, if the worse comes to the worse you could get yourself on one of these flights and claim the money back later from BA. If none are going to Gatwick then try Heathrow as I am sure there is a National Express bus that travels between the two. Also, by the time you go the "busy" season is more of less over with schools going back etc so BA staff may not feel it worth their while disrupting things!

Hi Lucy,

Just a thought - and it not be possible or practical for you now - but what about travelling down the evening before and staying at an airport hotel at Gatwick or nearby?

Like you I am a bit of a worrier and like the security of knowing we are already there for our flight for the next day. Also it gets the holiday off to a smashing start.

Other than that I don't know :(

Sorry

Karen

We had exactly the same timings for our holiday in July. Our Newcastle flight was on time and we ended up with more than enough time to transfer Terminals, even allowing for collecting our bags etc. It was our Virgin flight that left 1 hour late!! If you use the DIY checkin the day before, which we did, it gives you even more time to get to the Virgin checkin in the South Terminal at Gatwick. Hope this helps
