So I've just had it. Had it years ago but now I've beyond had it. I'll try to condense to just the main components, but to give warning I'm sure its still gonna be a long one. So 3 1/2 years ago I moved into a town house with my family which was then DH, DD2, and myself. My brother actually owns the townhouse but we pay the mortgage as rent so he can live closer to the city while we got ready to take the home buying plunge. Main reason we did this was for DD to be able to have a yard which she didn't in apartment life. So here we are. Great neighborhood with lovely neighbors, all of them, except the ones on the other side of the wall...ugh here goes.
We move in. FTR these town houses are 2 bedrooms I've stated my family at move in. These people start out with husband we'll call Tim, wife(Lilly), son (Tom 15), son (Ted 13) and son (Pedro almost 2).
So we start out just fine. Only problem we have is Tim likes dirtbikes, loves to have his two older sons ride them. Made a full track in the back yard complete with buried boulders to make jumps. So thats the end of my DD's naps since he wakes her up every day. Yup day we move in naps gone. But we try to just deal. Tim and my brother had originally had a deal that Tim would take care of the lawn management, nothing in writing just verbal agreement. He had done this a few times for us but it stopped. Well after the lawn getting very long DH decided to take care of it himself so he mowed the lawn. Tim came over and scolded him that he did not like how he did it and he needed to give him warning so he could shut his central air off. Fine but why shouldn't we get the same courtesy? but we say OK and let it go.
Fast forward to next year. Summer goes pretty much same as before. Only issue we had before the big one was DD was out playing with toy carriage, went in for 5 minutes max to go potty came outside it was gone. DH went looking for it later, found it with snapped handle under these peoples back deck. Tim has issues with boys playing with girl toys. Towards the end of summer we notice Tim now has Pedro on a small dirt bike. He's not ready for the track so he has him ride on our, level, side of the yard. DH goes to Tim and says. I see you have Pedro on the dirt bike, could you just keep that on your side so its away from where our DD plays. Well Tim flips! Uses everyname in the book says we have no right to say that. Screams at Pedro to get on the bike while he is screaming and crying that he doesn't want to. (yes Pedro is only 2 about a month away from 3 at this point). Tim yells try and stop me. FYI Tim does not work, Lilly works while Tim stays home with Pedro.
Now DD and Pedro have become friends since they are about the same age. But I've had a rule that I don't want DD anywhere I can't see her even with Tim watching because I don't think he's safe. I have seen Tim using bobcats on his dirt track with Pedro standing next to it, Pedro jumping on a trampoline in the middle of this track with dirtbikes going around it, Tim uses a power saw and has now 5 year old Pedro hold the wood. I don't find him safe! at all! One time DD was playing over there I called her back and she said Lilly was watching them so I said ok. This is where the big problem later on begins. So after when she asks to go over and says but Tim is there I always say , Sorry no, I don't trust his judgement. We don't want you where we can't see you.
FF to following summer. Tim has decided that he doesn't like neighbor across the streets fence. Informs hims that he has started the process to take him to court to have fence removed. Guy across the street is obvioulsy upset and screams and yells and mentions how the entire neighborhood hates his track. Tim grabs dirt bike and revs it loudly at end of his drive way while putting his hand to his ear taunting him. Yeah real stable, and mature. DH tries to calm him down and Tim yells if you lived here you'd understand (we lived here 2 years at this point).
This summer actually pretty uneventful between us since we try to avoid them although my newborn baby has had a very difficult nap schedule between dirt bikes and the drums and electric guitar they use when they can't ride. So heres where it gets really bad. DD is over her BFF's house who is next house over on the other side of the other people but separate house. She is running over her friends and DH yells for her to watch out because Tim is backing his truck out. Tim proceeds to go back and forth screeching tires about 5 or 6 times. Is this not threatening a 5 year old? I tell DH he needs to file police report god forbid an "accident" should happen. So next day. I find out about a conversation she had with Tim. Apparently when she was over her BFF's house Pedro asked her to play with him. She has reached a point where she doesn't really like to play with him if she has other options because usually she ends up crying when he just disappears. So she says no. I guess he asked why, and with Tim right there she says "my parents don't want me near your Dad". This is actually true but we have told her just that we didn't want her where we couldn't see her. She admittedly didn't use the best tact but, she's 5. Tim's response to my 5 year old. "Tell your parents they're fat losers".
Needless to say I confront him on this a few weeks later, I waited to see him and to cool off. He certainly doesn't deny it. Tells me I had no right to say I don't want him near my kid. He has every right I can't say that. He calls his wife out. Lilly is completely subserviant to Tim whole neighborhood told me from the get go she was 2 different people, Lilly and Lilly with Tim home. She tells me Tim would never hurt a child (sorry but he already did). DH comes outside to find out whats going on and Tim tells him to go back inside it doesn't involve him. He says a lot more obviously I'm rambling so I'll leave it at that we got no where.
Guy acrosst the street comes over to ask how to spell Tims last name. He moved out about a month before and intended on renting his place. Someone shot his house with BB gun, threw rocks through window, brokedown section of his fence, and scattered packaged meat throughout yard. (did I mention Lilly is a deli manager?) Girl on other side of house saw who it was. Yup, Tim. Police won' do anything, he's taking him to civil court.
Last week we get a big snow storm. Its stops snowing at about 10:00pm. DH has to work in the am so he goes out and shovels. Tim is apparently bothered by this. Opens front door, smashes beer bottle outside, goes back in. DH finishes, comes inside. Tim goes out and starts shoveling a small part of his driveway clearly just to bang the shovel around. Thats about where we leave off.
We are just a about 15 months away from being able to buy our own house so we want to be able to suck it up and just get through. But I'm questioning our safety. I don't know.
Quick somewhat significant additives to the story: We're not perfect we use surround sound that is pretty loud, on weekends, but I do have 2 kids. We use this with them sleeping and they sleep with the door open, speakers are directly below their room. They have no problem sleeping through it. We played guitar hero at 9:30 on a Saturday night, he banged on our wall hard for a solid minute. He throws knives in the backyard at a target with the teens next door. He got in a fight with a girl across the street because her kids stopped the ice cream man,and he blocked his driveway.
Thanks for letting me oh so longly vent. If you made it this far..any thoughts?
