Did you know that until this week WWI, at least in legal terms, was still an on-going event? This week Germany made its final reparations payment ($94M) to fulfill the term of the (infamous?) Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919.

So...it's ok to come out of the shelter now?:)

Really? I didn't know that, and will share the fun fact with the kids when they come home.

I wonder where it will go? Now our debt is only ...

– $ 9,017,052,399,029
+ -------- 94,000,000

sigh....

My company was just bought by a German company. I don't think I will bring this up though at the next call. :goodvibes

So what about WWII? They should still be paying on that one!

That is bizarre! If I had daughters who would listen to me, I would ask them to mention this in World History class tomorrow. It's rather facinating.

Woo hoo! Time to celebrate! Mustard gas for everyone!

That is pretty cool actually! I had no idea it really would take almost a hundred years to pay of the Treaty of Versailles. Maybe WWII put a crimp in their payment plan? :confused3;)

The company my brother in law works for was bought by a German company which then moved all the manufacturing to Mexico recently. Only the design is here in the US now. Every now and then he has to visit the Mexican plant, but is not allowed to leave the plant w/o an armed guard and has to overnight on the US side.

I'm bumping this up because I think it's one of those neat quirky things about history. I read some more into this. WWII is over because the reparations were paid off in slave labor and a few other things. I believe the US may have also paid some reparations to some countries like England (dont quote me, I read it this morning). By the way, WW1 officially ends on this Sunday because that is the date of the final payment. Still think it's amazingly interesting.....all these years and who would have ever imagined WW1 had never officially ended. (Not counting any of you History majors, just common folk like myself).
