Hope to go next week. What is this store like? I looked at the web site and looks really cool.
Does anyone know if they sell any Disney Cruise Line stuff and scrapbooking stuff?
Also, how often are the character greets. I heard Minnie will be there dressed as Lady Liberty - don't want to miss it.
Also, is the huge Toys R Us store close to it? Are there any scrapbooking stores near either...

I haven't been to World of Disney yet, so I can't help you with what they carry. We're hoping to get there in November when we go to see Mary Poppins on Broadway! WOD Is at 5th Ave. & 55th St. and Toys r Us is at Broadway and 44th St., so it's a bit of a hike but probably doable depending on your situation. Have fun!

I've bought scrapbooking stuff Disney-style at World of Disney. But the selection isn't as great as you might imagine, unless it's improved in the last couple of years.

I went in 2000 and I absolutely loved it. Brought home a Minnie Mouse Statue of Liberty figurine and lots of other stuff.

Go there quite a bit, since I work in NYC, but I don't scrap. I think they have a couple of things for scrap booking, but not an extensive offering. They used to have a lot of that stuff in one place on the 2nd floor, but they have now split up the items based on the characters, so if you want princess scrap album items, they will be on the 1st floor in the back and the Buzz, stitch stuff will be on the 2nd floor.

I have not seen any Cruise Line items, besides brocheres and information. The store itself is pretty nice. 3 levels of a lot of Disney stuff. A bit of a hint is if you purchase anything, the cashieres on the 2nd floor are usually empty compared to the 1st floor ones. Also, if you are a pin trader, bring your pins. Several of the CMs there have pins and are willing to trade. However, you may have to teach them some of the etiquette as most of the CMs are just New Yorkers who happen to work at a store owned by Disney, not true Disney addicts like us. Not all are like that, but some of them are.

If it is a nice day, then the walk to Toys-R-Us is not to bad. You can walk down 5th Ave and sight see while on your way. Then cut over at 44th St to go 2 blocks to 7th Ave. Or if you want to see a lot of Times Square, then head over to 7th Ave at 51st and walk through Times Square. My office is at 42nd & 6th Ave, so I do that walk a bit and I think it is nice. Just be prepared for the crowds.

Anyway, have a great trip and I hope you enjoy the store.

I love the WOD. My boyfriend and I were just talking about going there again hoping to see a lot of pirates stuff. As for Minnie dressed as Lady Liberty, you will see a lot of that...in snowglobes, on t-shirts, etc. but I don't think you will se actual Minnie, the character, dressed as Lady Liberty for you to meet. I have seen Pooh, Donald, Pluto and the princesses there, though.

WOD has a lot of DisneyWorld/Disneyland exclusiver merchandise as well as a LOT of things you can only get at this store. Things with NYC on it, the Minnie I spoke of before, etc. Either way, it's really fun and definitely worth the trip. Oh, and you can definitely get information on the cruise line there.

My DD and I went there about 15 months ago on a mother daughter bday trip. The walk between WoD and Toys R Us was very pleasant, but it was a beautiful spring day, and we both like to walk.

I was very surprised at how big the store was (actually both of them). WoD in particular had some very nice NYC merchandise.

Have a good time.

I love the WOD in NYC! Everytime I go to the city, I go there. It just so happens whenever we go, we go when there are character greets. Last time I went, a couple months ago, we got to meet and take pics with Pinnochio and Gepeto. It's a great store, big (3 stories), sells same merchandise as the parks. The top floor (where the meet and greets happen to be) is phenomenal, my fave part. It's loaded with awesome artwork. Enjoy!

We've been and we LOVE it. Cindy and Tigger were there for meet and greets when we were there. There was SOME scrapping supplies. I was mostly on the second floor looking at the Princess stuff! :tinker: princess:

Live across the river from NYC and surprisingly JUST went to World of Disney for the first time last week! It's a great store, lots of NY themed Disney merch. as well as a lot of theme park stuff too. Fortunately for me I got out without buying anything ;) Just had to keep telling myself, "Going to WDW in a few weeks.......only a few weeks" :thumbsup2

I go once in a while, and it gives me a quick fix when I need one. :thumbsup2

I think it's walkable between WOD and Toys R Us, but my out of town friends always complain at the amount of walking they end up doing when they visit, so maybe my tolerance level is much higher?

Liberty Minnie is on the schedule for the meet and greet, how fun is that???
As others have mentioned, there are scrapbooking items, but it's a very small collection. I love looking at the charms and the art.

Have fun!!

Just got back from NYC. Loved the World of Disney store. Met Minnie and Pluto. They seemed to have a lot of the stuff as the resort. I do have to say that NY drivers are nuts and the pedestrians never seem to obey the pedestrian lights. When it shows - "don't walk" everyone walks! Lots to see in NYC. Loved Toys R Us too....

Minnie Liberty IS a character at the store. This just started last month, I believe. So you should definitely catch her.

WoD is a great store, but the new management has been trying to take away the entertainment and turn it into just merchandising! When it first opened in October 2004, it was JUST like being at the theme parks! But now, since the new management has arrived, it feels like you're in a store in NYC. If you want the magic back I suggest you write them letters.

The store DOES have a beautiful gallery on the 3rd floor that you should all check out. As well as the build your own Mr. Potato Head, pirate skull, crown, and necklace just like in WDW.

As for Toys-R-Us I never heard them mention anything about closing, but I don't really keep on top of them since I can't stand it in there (always too crowded and the staff is not so friendly).

omg... where have I been?? I didn't know a store like this existed...is NYC the only one, or are there other locations as well? That sounds awesome since we're 17 hrs from WDW... maybe there is one in Chicago since that's only 6 hrs??? that would be cool!

I was just at WOD last weekend, its a great store. I picked up a cruise pamplet while I was there (I collect disney brochures). It seemed to have a lot of stuff from the parks but I'm not sure about the scrapbooking. It took a lot of willpower to remind myself I wouldn't want to lug all the pins I could carry around NYC!
