I am so confused! We are going to DLR in January - I haven't been since the 1980s :scared1:, and DD5 has never been. World of Color sounds like something we should try to see. It also sounds really crowded. I have now been seeing references to FPs for this, but I have also been reading that you still need to line up an hour or more ahead of time.

What exactly does the FP get you? How do I get a FP (if it in fact actually helps)? Any other tips?

Thanks so much!! :hippie:

First of all, if you haven't read this already, please do: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=37986447

It's still confusing, but that helps explain the controlled chaos that is World of Color viewing lol.

There is a limited viewing area for World of Color. To get into the good area, you need a FP. There are places from which you can watch without a FP, but they are not recommended (obstructed or far views etc.). You need the FP to get into the good viewing areas, but since everyone stands for the show, you need to line up early to get into a spot where you can view from near the front or near a rail. Otherwise, you could be stuck behind tall people and parents with kids on their shoulders. You can get FP's for free from the machine at Grizzly River in the morning and afternoon. If you know you won't be able to get to the machines early for a free pass, you can book a picnic or lunch at Wine Country Trattoria and get a FP, but they are the same kind you get for free from the machine, you're just paying for the ability to not go to the machine in the morning if that makes sense (something that's not worth it in my opinion unless you were planning on eating there anyway). You can also book a Preferred WOC dining package, which will give you a pass to the preferred viewing section. Those are NOT available through any other means than the dining packages, but you still have to line up a fair amount before the show if you want to get a good spot within that viewing area.

Check the superthread then come back if you have more questions! :)

You need to have a FP to get into the viewing areas. The area doesn't hold nearly as many people as they originally intended so they had to go with the FP so it was total mayhem with people staking out spots all day.

You can get a FP by 1) purchasing a premium viewing meal at Ariels or WCT, 2) purchasing a picnic meal, or 3) getting one at the FP machines by Grizzly River Rapid. #1 gets you into the preferred view section. #2 and #3 give you FPs for the other sections. The only reason to pay for #2 over #3 is if you are arriving to the parks late in the day. You still (no matter what FP you get or how) need to get to your area early to get a decent view.

Holy cow. Thank you. I will check out the BIG thread.

But your responses lead me to another question: How great is this show? We were at WDW in October, and at that time, my DD would happily miss any show, fireworks, or parade in favor of Tower of Terror. So how amazing is WoC? Is it a "must do" for most people? :confused3

For most people yes. I've only seen it right after it opened and had no clue how to pick a good viewing spot so we had a pretty cruddy view even though we were in the front section (it was off to an angle though). I personally prefer Fantasmic! (which is MUCH better than WDWs version) but most people would say its a must. I'm looking forward to seeing it again in January so I can get a chance to try it again.

This is so tricky for me to answer! I go to the parks a lot and have seen WOC almost 10 times now. I love the show and am impressed each time I see it, and I have cried on at least two occasions watching it lol. That said, I am completely in agreement with the posters that say it is a HUGE hassle to see! Because I go to the parks frequently, I'm not that upset to dedicate 60 minutes of my night standing in line to get into a show that is 30 more minutes of standing. I also usually travel alone and am reasonably tall (5'7"), so I don't have to worry about getting a good spot so my whole group can see. It's an awesome show with a crappy viewing system. I think everyone should see it at least once. If you only have one night in the parks, then I might recommend against it because it takes up a lot of time. If you'll be there for a while, then I strongly encourage you to see it. Get snacks to eat while in line and play games - basically go into it with the expectation that the line-up process sucks, and that it sucks for everyone lol. BUT, if you get over that, I really do enjoy the show. I like it more than Fantasmic!.

Don't read the whole thread. Read the OP, and then last couple or pages. The first few talk about the mayhem when it was new and it's much different now.

I'd suggest you see it because, it's different and new to you.

We saw it from our balcony at VGC before it opened while they were testing it and we all thought it was amazing and we can't wait to see it in a few weeks when we are there. You can always look at a youtube video and see what you think and if it's something your daughter would want to watch.

From our room we could feel the fire so I can't imagine what it will be like standing there!

Just my opinion... We've only seen it once, from not the best spot....Its good but I much prefer Fantasmic. DD(4.5) did enjoy it, she also enjoyed Fantasmic. I haven't asked her which she preferred though. I know with Fantasmic she likes that theres actual characters, not just projections on water. But if I asked her if she'd rather watch the Parade or Fantasmic or World of Color, her hands down answer would be a parade. We go to Disneyland at least once a year and WOC is not on my must do list. Its on my "do if we have time" list. It doesn't hurt to grab a fastpass for it and go if you find you have time in the evening.

I know it is just as opinion, but I am so glad you shared it. In my heart of hearts I knew I would rather spend the $$ on the Holiday Tour with preferred seating for the parade, but though it was blasphemy not to chose to do WOC, but I only wanted to spend so much time and money. I think we will give WOC a try with a reg. fastpass, but not invest hours or $$$ in preferred seating.

I just wanted to chime in and say that WoC is something that you should definitely NOT miss. It's my favorite part of a DL trip now. I highly recommend going at least once, if not twice! :thumbsup2

Thank you all for the words of wisdom. I love how helpful everyone is over here!

We have 3 days at DLR, so I will grab FPs and see how our day develops and how DD's mood is as the evening comes. Hopefully we will see it, but I don't think I will force it if DD is overtired, because that would not be fun for anyone! :scared1:

We watched WOC last night for the 1st time and it is a not to miss show, IMO. My 13 year old DS thought it was cool.
