My husband and I dream of spending our "retirement" years in an RV travelling across the country as WorkKampers. We honestly don't think we could just do the travelling thing without something to keep us busy - like seasonal or temporary part time jobs. One of the places we would really like to do this is WDW. When we were there in 2001, we met a retired gentleman who was working in the MK on Main Street in sort of a conductor's uniform (don't know the term for what he was supposed to be). He told us that he and his wife came to WDW every winter and worked for a few months - got great perks such as CM parties, free admission for families and were generally treated fabulously by Disney as employees. He said that Disney hires scores of retirees, especially during the non-summer months. Has anybody done this sort of thing and has experiences to share, or is anybody, like us, hoping to do this one day.

There used to be a forum by Disney but they did away with it and on this forum there were several people who had reitired and went to work for Disney. From what they said, Disney hires a lot of seasonal people, One lady said both she and her husband both worked partime, she worked Epcot Test Track 3 days a week. I also ran into a young girl from Tenn. who said she had worked the last three years as summer help while in college.

We are planning something similar for our early retirement in several years. But wouldn't the space rental in that area be a killer for long term? Probably cost more than you'd make?

DH and I are hoping to do that in the near future. We would like to spend 3-4 months during the winter at WDW and then travel the rest of the time. I would be bored to tears just sitting around so I would want to work as many hours as possible. Plus it would help with the lot rent!!!

I wonder how long it takes from the time you interview before you are able to start working. I would love to work at FW but anywhere at WDW would be great!!

All you have to do is call Casting (407) 828-1000, make an appointment for an interview and go for it. My wife and I have been part time, seasonal (coming at least once a year to work and play and we are now both full time.
Great benifits and very rewarding. Wife at WL, me at FW.

my dad and step mom have been doing this for a while now, they have worked in Texas, Maine, and Florida .......since they are work campers they were the managers of the campground, they were already earning a paycheck and a free place to live. they are gettting ready to move up to S.C. for the summer early fall. they have meet lots of people and enjoyed Disney since 2003 they were there 3 years without ever going to the parks :confused3  until our family came down for vacation, they went with us. good luck.

Gosh, this is DH and my dream as well!! :sunny: We plan on becoming full time rv-ers and working seasonally as we travel and see the country. Not that I'm planning too far ahead, but I found this website and have it saved on my computer!! :thumbsup2 http://www.workamper.com/WorkamperNews/TWNEmployerPageView.cfm?EmployerPageID=20
From what I saw in 2002, loop 100 seemed to be 'home' for lots of people doing this!! :cool2:

We just came back from WDW and were just discussing this, this is exactly what I want to do, when we retire....We do have a few years, but that would be perfect, our tickets paid for and just make enough money to pay for our campsite.
