Working for DCL

Go for it allears! If you are in the position to be able to be away on the ship for long periods of time, I would say that it would be an exciting career choice!

A few years back it looked like my husband could possibly get transferred to Florida. I was so excited because that would mean that I could work for Disney somewhere around the Orlando area.

It didn't happen, though!:(

OK, no fair checking on the Disney jobs website - I went to DCL jobs and then linked onto the main Disney jobsite - and there are jobs there I am qualified to do, in fact a few which are very similar to my current job - man oh man, movin' to FL or CA, workin for Disney.......sounds pretty sweet to me. LOL, now we just need to get DH a job - anyone know if West Coast Choppers is hiring LOL!

:hyper:

More news from the front...

I'm stuck in limbo! All of my paperwork has been submitted to DCL, and I'm awaiting a letter of confirmation of employment from them, so I can start organising my visa. I've just heard from the recruitment company that no new staff will be put on until the New Year, possibly something to do with the cost of air tickets over the holidays(?).

So looks like I'll start in Jan/Feb. What a long process this has turned into! At my interview I told them I could start ASAP... never thinking that it would be so long!

I've also started a list of important things to remember to bring with me, starting with a BIG jar of Vegemite! I wonder if there are any more Aussie essentials I should pack?

Thanks again for your help!
A.

My DD started the application process in early October and actually started the last week of January so I understand the wait although it will be even longer for you. She was SO ready to go when she finally left.

But I can say that she absolutely LOVES her job and really enjoys the folks she works with now and those she's worked with earlier this year. She's working in her Dream Job.

Have a great holiday time with your family, then you can take off with a barrel of great memories to carry you through your first contract.

I'm not an Aussie so can't help with the Aussie essentials.

Go for it!!!!! What a blast this will be. You cant do this with kids and a wife. So I say do it have fun.....Maybe we'll see you !!!
Good luck

I definitely needed my Vegemite when I backpacked around Europe in '02. I even managed to SELL my half a jar before I flew home! To homesick Aussies, it's worth its weight in gold.

I wonder if there's a piano I can play on board, and if I should bring some sheet music? I know a few cool songs by heart, though.

And, I still haven't told my boss. Eeep!

Hey A.

Normal notice in the US is two weeks so unless customs are signifficantly different down under or you think they would need extra time to find a replacement, I think I would wait until AFTER you have your travel docs from DCL and a definite start date.

DD was in a little different position since her boss knew about her search before she went to work for them full time (she had been working part time for them for several years) and even gave her a Mickey Mouse watch with her name on it as a going away present!

You'll figure out the right time.
