Work ethic - where has it gone?

We had to do a group project in a Health Management class and the group I was assigned to would not even respond to my emails! Even when we had only a week to turn the paper in. Grades are based on group work. I had to go talk to the professor and beg him to let me work solo. Well I am glad I did because I seen their research paper (we have to post our papers online to Blackboard) and it was substandard, while I got an A on my paper;).

Where has work ethic gone in our society? I'm getting SO fed up with people not delivering on what they promise to do.

Long story short, I'm working on a sizable project for my chem. class with a group, and NO ONE has contributed until tonight, the night before the project is due. I'm the one who is putting everything together in a Powerpoint, fixing their MANY errors and untrue facts, as well as doing about half the information because I knew from the get go that they couldn't deliver what they said they would.

On top of this, I have a research paper to finish that is due on Tuesday, a math project due on Wednesday, and I have to start studying for tests in both math and chem. which will be taken next week.

I'm also balancing working 20'ish hours/week at a part time job, getting everything prepared for applying to colleges, being part of various clubs and organizations set up through my school, and dealing with family drama.

Just too much on my plate at once, and I usually like a full plate!

Sorry for the vent, just had to get it off my chest...:headache:

This sounds like the life of a successful person.

Unfortunately, this happens in College and the work world too, albeit you will find a few more people willing to put in work. Some teachers give you the opportunity to evaluate the performance of the individuals in your group as part of their grade, but unfortunately no always.

Even though it is a lot of hard work, the good news is that (in school, at least) the inaction of the people in your group and your ability to do most of the work sets you out front as a leader...this does not go unnoticed, and I can tell you that leadership experience is the greatest experience you can have. When it comes to job applications or assistantships at a university, the decision often comes down to the person who has the leadership experience.

Keep up the good work!
