Um, 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq. Guess you missed in his quote where Bush said that his administration harms US!

In 2001 Bush said Bin Laden was his No. 1 Priority. Right before the Iraq war he said he didn't care where Bin Laden was, it wasn't important.

No, but maybe we should fight TERRORISTS rather than Iraqi's. I mean, we did such a good job on the Taliban, that they blew up a building in Kabul this weekend. Maybe we should have finished ONE job before going to the next...

As for McCain, I had the same reaction a lot of people here seem to have had..."So, this is what a man without a soul looks like"...lol...He's completely sold out to the Bushytes in order to advance his own standing with the party in hopes of running in 4 years. It's really sad, to, because I used to admire the man for being willing to stand up for what HE believed in.

And Kendra, to put it bluntly, you don't know what you're talking about. Yes, the Bush campaign DID slime McCain during the 2000 primaries, and if you think they weren't involved in either that racist phone message or the military group that mysteriously appeared to call McCain a traitor for his service in Vietnam (sound familiar?) then you are just simply uninformed.

As for Rudy...I had a lot of respect for the way the man handled himself after 9/11. In fact, I was MUCH more impressed with his leadership than I was Bush's or anyone else's. But last night, he did the same thing McCain did and that all of the slimey Republicans are doing. He took part of a Kerry statement out of context in order to lie about Kerry changing his mind about issues. It's disgusting that these "people" have to stoop that low to try to slime their opponent and run from Shrub's own record, but it's something that I've come to expect.

And yes, John McCain is a sellout. He has completely gone back on every ideal he's been lauded for by BOTH parties in order to solidify his position with the party so that he can make another run after the next presidential term (Bush's second or Kerry's first). Hell, if this election had been between McCain and Kerry, I'd be SERIOUSLY right in the middle of the "undecided" column, possibly even a McCain lean. But now ? After watching him kiss up to the man that he's continuously fought on everything from campaign finance reform to stem cell research ? Not a chance. VERY disappointing.

When Fathead Limbaugh and every other right wingnut out there just spent WEEKS tearing down the 9/11 widows that pushed for the creation of the 9/11 commission -- AGAINST the wishes of Dubya, by the way -- it makes them look hypocritical in the extreme to now suddenly want just THESE particular widows to speak. It just goes to show that these people (the ones running this party right now) have no shame at all.

That said, I DON'T have a problem with them speaking...just with the hypocrisy of it all.

I guess having your speach Doctored and Approved by Kerry and His boys at the their National Convention is not selling out. I am no fan of Al Sharpton, but at least he was the only Democrat that could stand up and say what he wanted to say. So you are Judge and Jury on what is lies and truth coming out of the republicans.

It is sad that you see McCain as a sellout. I don't. I guess if he's not bashing Bush he's a sellout. I seriously doubt that McCain has changed any of his ideals. IMHO He will still be the thorn in their side in the upcoming years and I'm glad. I think he is helping the Republican party change and I think that's what you really don't like.

The Republicans have REPEATEDLY misquoted and taken Kerry's comments out of context to try to paint him as a flip-flopper. That is fact, beyond my judgement or anyone else's. They continuously use the "I voted for it before I voted against it" quote to say that Kerry flipped on one bill, when that is just an outright LIE. The first bill he voted FOR would have actually FUNDED the 87 Billion dollars rather than running up the deficit. The president threatened to veto that bill if sent to him (showing his enormous support for the troops ), so it failed. The second bill was the one he lodged a protest vote against, knowing full well that his vote would not change the outcome.

This has all been explained dozens of times, but apparently the republicans think people are too stupid to understand the whole explanation, as they just keep pushing the same, tired lie.

I am also a little confused at to why so much emphasis was put on the 9/11 event? Why were the relatives of the victims speaking again? I was watching the convention and dozed off for a bit. I woke up to the sound of "Amazing Grace" and everyone was crying! I forgot what was on for a second and wondered who just recently died. It came off as a bit contrived and phony to me.

Tori, seriously...I wish you were right, but I just don't see it. Believe me, nothing would make me happier than seeing the Republicans move towards a more centrist, more socially moderate position. Anything would be better than the bible-thumping wingnuts that are apparently in charge of the party at the moment (just read the platform...nothing MODERATE about it).

Sort of the same way that arriving at the Dem convention on a look-alike swift boat and marching up to the platform with "I'm John Kerry and I'm reporting for duty" appeared a bit contrived and phoney to some.

My point is political conventions are scripted and contrived for maximum emotional punch in order to maximize the expected "bounce" once the convention ends. So, of course things will be staged and will appear phoney... because they are. The vast majority of politics is phoney.

But the platform has been like that for years... the fact of the matter is that it's just words on paper. You only really hear once every 4 years and it is normally pretty well forgetten in between. The real change comes from within, with the addition of new members who believe as I do (moderate), with the acceptance of members like McCain, Guillaini and Arnold. Heck even Cheney and his view on gay marriage didn't raise that much of stink with the more religious members. I'm not expecting an overnight change but I do see some change and will be working for it continuing and expanding.
