Thanks.I went to my bank and got a statement+no money has been taken.I went into Woolworths+spoke with the manageress(who is also a friend of mine)and she said that with pre-order's your card is swiped but payment is'nt taken until the day of delivery or sometimes the day before(8th dec in my case).She said that if one day before that date, Woolworths is closed or they have no wish in sending out the DVD they won't take the money out.Lets hope this is the case,as for now i have'nt done anything.I am going to see what happens come the weekend.
My Woolies is still getting a delivery every day+one is still scheduled for tomorrow.x.

Thanks for finding that out as I have 2 DVD's on pre-order!

It's such a shame about Woolies, it will be a huge gap in so many high streets

I will really miss woolies if it does cease to exist on the high street.
I can't specifically say what I buy from there, I just go there when I need something "odd". "I'm bound to find it in Woolies", I think to myself!
It's great for kids dressing up, basic household stuff like cotton, thread, baking tins and at this time of year decorations and lights......
I do agree that sadly, it can't compete with online retailers for CD's, DVD's and games and although I never buy these things anymore I do know that online or the supermarket is cheaper.

We don't have sweets at home, when the girls get given sweetie money from a relative or deserve a treat, it's a bit of a tradition to go to woolies for pic'n'mix - this is what my Grandfather did with me and for that tradition alone, my family will miss woolies very much

it's just awful and I'll be sad if our local Woolies goes. We tend to go in once a month and dd has a wonderful time checking out all the different toys, really feel for all the staff x

Same here Joanne....my nan & grandad used to have a really old wooden biscuit barrel and they used to fill it with Woolies pix & mix (it was never empty, no matter how many visitors they had) and when I was little it was a weekly occurance, we would all walk to visit nanny & grandad for a cup of tea and some sweeties from the barrel.

If it goes it will be a big loss in my home town, Woolies & Boots are the only shops that I remember from as far back as I can, everything else has come and gone.

I remember buying sweets from there when I was a child - weighing it and asking mum if I could put any more in there I was always getting lost in the toy section (I still do now!)

I wonder if Woolies still have Mickey Mouse toasters in stock? I saw one a couple of weeks ago before they mentioned administration, I'll have to go back and see if they have any.

I took the odd few sweets from the pick and mix and eat it, but I was too young to know better I just loved the smell and the taste of the cheap chocolate (jazzies, white mice, etc)

I get pick n mix from my local news agent and I would rather support them a local business who have been here for years and know all my relatives than Woolworth's. My Grandad was the local greengrocer so I always try to use local shops.

It does in fact suck that Woolies will shut, however, my local one at home shut down a couple of months ago, mainly due to the fact it was being redeveloped, into you guess... "affordable housing", although, think of the mighty closing down sale. It will be annoying in some places as in certain towns, woolies is the only toy store etc, but it is rather overpriced compared to specialist shops in some cases, as games, CDs and DVDs are far cheaper and with better deals at Game and HMV.

nothing to do with high street specialist stores - they're going under too. Its Tesco mentality thats killing these stores.

Woolies are typically high street / town centre stores. They generally dont have car parks, so you have to pay and park your car, buy your stuff and then walk back to the car trudging all your gear.

True, though I have a soft spot for good old Woolies that goes back to my younger days as they were the main source for Christmas presents back then. Some of my favourite items as a young boy were bought here.
Hence it is a real shame - problem is they haven't moved with the times and like you say the big supermarkets have taken over.

The store in Fleetwood, Lancashire where I spent most of my younger years has hardly changed at all, which in some ways is a comfort but in others kind of sums up the current problem they find themselves in.

yeah, its a shame the couldn't keep up with the changing markets, can't blame people for going else where if it is cheaper though.

I recently got DD Christmas presents from Amazon and games were £15 on Amazon were £30 at Woolworth's. CDs for £6 on Amazon were £13 at Woolworth's. Its to big of a price difference.

It's such a shame,but I do agree they haven't changed with the time's.
Ours is a smallish one stocks most thing's even pick 'n' mix I love Jazzie's.
That said with the time's now you can get cheaper things by online shopping/eBay so on,Which I think possibly could be to blame for certain shop's having trouble's they can't compete,or won't.

My DS-I-L just got told last night they will be paid at the end of this month but not certain yet about their pay for December which will be due Boxing Day That's not much help to the staff when they are waiting for their overtime to come through as well as their regular pay for the month to pay the bills with so at the moment they just have to wait it out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something good will happen by then. They expect 500 of the 700 plus shops they have will close soon even the Big Ws may go.
It's a pity our nephew thinks money just appears from nowhere to buy all of the stuff he's constantly asking for, he needs to learn the value of money still (a typical 14 year old).

This really is quite bad news for not just Woolworths but also for my local High Street's.

For as long as I can remember Woolworths has been on Chatham, Strood and Gillingham High Street's and is one of the major players still in the local high streets. I really worry how they will cope with the loss of another major retailer at a time where they are trying to encourage shope to enter the high street.

I hope all those employed directly and indirectly do not suffer too much. Woolworths has a place in my heart as my Daddy was a major player in Woolworths in the late 1980's to mid 1990's.
