:woohoo: Is this akin to the Holy Grail? Waiting for the 7 month window to open, call to book one of the few fully accessible (roll-in shower) HA rooms at BWV with a Boardwalk View room for the opening of Food & Wine Festival?

I was not expecting that category room. Nor was I expecting to get a HA studio during that time period. I figured I'd have to settle for something. But when I called yesterday, it all seemed to go like clockwork. CM checked availability, kept me on hold to block the room with Special Needs and opened the ressie. It took about 40 minutes when all was said and done. (Special Needs doesn't always answer right away and we miscommunicated how many nights at first. Had to add the 3rd night.)

So today I call back expecting to just add the 2nd night. Waited on hold for a CM about 10 minutes (and I called promptly at 9am). All the while I wondered (and worried) how this "block an HA room with Special Needs but call back the next day for room availability" worked. What if all those BWV-view rooms were gone by the time the CM picked up? Still once CM Lydia answered and I identified myself, I had 2 more nights added before I realized. (A leap year and short month and going by check-out date can get very confusing. I thought I had to call back again tomorrow.) The ressie's complete and the conf in the mail.

So now I'm wondering, where exactly is that HA studio with the BW view? And of course, is there only one so possibly it goes out of service the day I arrive? (I hope no one makes that shower leak!)

I won't be heartbroken either way. This is my first time trying out another DVC resort other than visiting. I go to my home SSR the following 9 days. I won't be able to use the pools at BWV (no zero entry), but it'll be kinda cool to give the whole "roll outa bed and walk or ferry to two parks" thing a try. Maybe I'll come back a Boardwalk Lover (ironic, eh?).

FWIW, before calling for my ressies, I had checked periodically about availability at VWL and AKV as well. They had good availability at all but the Value rooms at AKV.

Happy for you!

Now quit worrying about something that most probably won't happen and something you can't control anyway!

You're going to have wonderful time!

Great news. We do not own at BWV but often try for BW View at 7 months and have gotten it quite a few times. We concentrate on EPCOT/MGM while we are there and it really makes taking breaks easy and makes are schedule really efficient-I think you will like it a lot for that reason. Hope you have fun.

That is great news. My 7 month window will be April 3rd. I will need a 2br. H/C Boardwalk view. Of course I will take a preferred veiw just to be at the boardwalk for F&W. This time next year I hope to own at the BWV so I don't have to worry about the 7 month window. Susan

Yes Mom! Just trying to temper my enthusiasm so my expectations are not unreasonable.

jade1, that's what we plan on doing. Hop in and out of EPCOT & MGM/DHS, walk around the Boardwalk area, explore the pool complexes, walk over to Fantasia golf for a few rounds.

We have done a bit of that just visiting. (I've ferried to both parks as a hopping thing. And we have started at BWV or BCV for a meal then sauntered into a park.) We've even toured the BWV model rooms. What we haven't done is sleep there. I'm expecting a crash course in the warts and pleasant surprises of the resort: noise from the BW, view of fireworks, room quirks, etc.

 I think someone will become a little spoiled with that view ...

My guess is that your room may be 2047. 2049 is the first room facing the BW and it is a HA 1 bedroom that we have used. I can't really remember if it was a dedicated 1 bedroom or not. The balcony was HUGE. At any rate, congratulations on getting what you needed! Have fun on your trip!

Did that 1bedroom have a roll-in shower? I found at SSR that when the 1bedroom part of a lockoff had the roll-in the studio did not and vice versa.

Yes, it did have a roll-in shower. It probably makes does make more sense to have the roll-in showers NOT be in the same 2 bedroom unit as the 1 bedroom so that there can be more possible configurations for those needing HA units. Hopefully someone will post here who has actually stayed in a BW view HA studio.
At any rate, here's to you and a great time! :woohoo:

YEAH for you :cheer2:  :cheer2:

hmmm, & well, look at that:) : DH & i will be there (9/27-10/6), BVW studio with BW view also (non HA) ~ so maybe we'll see you there :thumbsup2
i know how much you love SSR (personally, i think it's a beautiful resort also ~ we own at both) ~ but the two really can't be compared (apples & oranges, both delicious & each appreciated for their own great attributes ;) ).
do make sure to take advantage of the BW view, & get up really early one morning just to watch the sun rise over the BW....it's as if waking to a black & white photo, that slooooooowly becomes colorized with movement :cloud9: get to the bakery early for some incredibly good, freshly baked treats (the lines get really loooooong within an hour of opening).
and at least one night, sit on your balcony to watch Illuminations (& wave to the ppl on the BW;) ). you can normally hear quite a bit of the music also.
we usually wind up in one of the rooms directly across from the basketball hoops (& yes, it is very tempting to "take a shot":rolleyes1 ). i'm sure an HA studio would be closer to the elevators (over the screen door, before village green).
btw, in at least one BW view (studio & 1 bdrms) a year, over many years, we have not had a single problem with the "noise from the BW" that some have (we do close the balcony doors & drapes if "napping, tho):confused3 .
i'm really excited for you tho ~ can you tell?!! :cheer2: :yay: :cheer2: lol

have a wonderful time!!

Cool. Definitely keep me in mind with PMs. I'll get to my intinerary planning for October in a few months (probably July/Aug). I always love meeting DISers and learning.

Most definitely. Fortunately, I like both though may favor one more often than another.

Thanks for the tips. Funny thing is my dad and I were just planning those very things this morning. He's less a hotel resort sorta person. (I was the one pushing for the 3 days outside SSR.) Yet he's warming the idea of it all. And he's on the typical old man schedule of up at crack of dawn to enjoy the view. (I just roll over.)

I always envisioned staying at BWV in those boardwalk rooms were akin to staying on the boardwalk in OC, MD. My family always vacationed uptown in the high rise condos but I always wanted to try downtown life.

I'm mostly jazzed about being there for F&W. I really enjoyed my two days of drinking and eating around the world last October. And that was one day in heavy downpours with rain ponchos on. Not much deters me from having a good time at Disney.

Congrats!!

Already looking forward to your Trip Report!:wizard:

Is that really close to the elevators on the grass area? Kind of a bummer if so, since you dont get down far enough to see SE but nice for a short walk to your room.

There is a HA lockoff (studio + one bedroom) directly above the Screen Door. We stayed there for our first DVC trip. You are close to the elevators. Unfortunatley (and perhaps ill thought out) it has a solid balcony, so we had to stand to be able to see the Boardwalk itself and couldn't sit out there. (OK, not perhaps ill thought out, certainly ill thought out - build a HA room with a great view you can see if you stand? Not being wheelchair bound I hadn't thought about that before - for us it was an issue for the kids who had to stand on chairs to be able to see anything, and small kids standing on plastic chairs is a Mommy nightmare)

No, 2049 is the first room directly on the BW and 2047 is the next one down on the BW. 2051 is the last room before the BW, just before you turn the corner to get onto the BW. 2051 is considered a BW view room, though I don't think it should be. We have had guests stay in the -051 rooms and we hope we don't get assigned those rooms again. 2051 has much of the view blocked by a tree.

Nice, I hope they get that-although it will be slightly louder than the higher floors (wouldn't bother us since we retire after midnight) and the solid balcony wall could be dissapointing-we liked it though.

A solid balcony wall would be an issue for me, unfortunately. Though I'm an adult, I am a very short adult (4'11") so sitting down I can barely see over most adult waist-height barriers. I need to stand up to see anything. So imagine hearing all that noise but only seeing wall.

Still, I'll live with it. Being disabled, you don't expect a lot from the non-disabled community. Not many architects do their designing from seat level. (One reason I support universal design and sensitivity training. Give your kids a chance to see how the rest of the world lives and you'll end up making a better world.)

At SSR, I've only ever had ground floor rooms. I get a great view of the lawns at Grandstand and the foliage elsewhere. Only place I can say I ever had the best views was Marriott's Cypress Harbour. They have several units there on the 2nd floor with screened balconies that overlook the resort lake. It's so nice sitting out there and see the fog over the lake as dawn breaks.

The reason you will be fine is you have a great attitude. I will say if it's the one I had it is pretty high-darn, that is poor planning by construction. Hope you have a good time though.

The only time we stayed at BWV - our very first DVC stay- I had requested near pool - We were given a room that overlooked the Luna Pool - as long as you were standing up. I have said ever since it was one of the things I would never understand. It was a HA studio which we did not need or request and between the shower water covering the entire bathroom floor every time someone took a shower because of the slope of the floor and the solid wall on the balcony I thought someone who designed these rooms really missed the boat. We were only there 2 days before moving to a GV at OKW but it definitely made a lasting impression.

Unfortunately, I was thinking that you might get a solid balcony :(. We were on the 2nd floor and I HATED our solid balcony because I couldn't see over it when I sat down in the chairs.
