One of my favorite things is to go to the Woody's Round-Up area during the holiday season--they have little shows, it's a nice calm place to rest, drinks and characters. I just don't know why Disneyland doesn't use this area throughout the year (other than the display of goats). I guess it all comes down to money but especially on busy busy days you would think they would use the area as a way of pulling crowds from other parts of the park.

I agree!

And during our May visit, they didn't even the animal area open (don't know if that's normal).

They use the area during Halloween and have pumpkin carving demonstrations and crafts and I believe a show.

yes-there are usually activities Oct-Dec but it just seems a shame to have that area go to waste the rest of the year . . . . . .

dose it cost anything to do the pumpkin carving or cookie stuff?

don't know about the pumpkin carving, but the cookie decorating was an extra charge--I believe the cookies were $6 or $8?

They have carving demonstrations. The kids can paint small pumpkins. I know there is a charge for cookies, don't know about the pumpkins.

I agree. It is a shame they can't do some similar activitie or a show in the area year round.

We made cookies there the year we went in December. My daughter had a blast. I must admit it was a fun thing for just the two of us to do and a great rest stop.

At Halloween and Christmastime, they also had pages to color all set up. At Halloween, for a day or so they had mini-pumpkins that you could draw on and put eye stickers on. But I guess that got out of hand (they were offering kids more than one, which just seemed crazy to me) and I read or noticed that they didnt' have the pumpkins later on.

The cookies were cute, but for our family we can't do them again. Noticed later that there was an ingredient list on the bottom of the box (we didn't get them at Halloween b/c we didn't have cash and they didn't take cards, but by early December they DID take cards), and although the cookie itself was fine, almost healthy, the frosting and sprinkles and stuff were filled with corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup, which, as anyone who has seen me post more than 10 times, my son and husband can't touch.

Decorating the cookie was tons of fun for my son, but then he ate half of it and lost his mind, becoming aggressive and mean, by the time we left the area and got to the FL bathrooms (happens that fast). Had to confiscate the cookie (though I'll tell you, 4 days later when I ate it it was still very good, which on the other hand is scarier than heck, LOL). :(

But it's lovely in there, and the coloring pages were a nice little break. :goodvibes

Molly--I had forgotten about the coloring pages, which if I recall were free. Really, I can't wait for the Fall to be able to go back there and just chill for an hour or so in the middle of the day and enjoy the shows--the magic shows were very fun!

Man, I loved it when Big Thunder Ranch had the best BBQ in the park!
Besides Halloween, Christmas, and New Year's Eve for distributing hats and horns, they used that area and the Festival Arena for special events. I guess they just have to keep it clear just in case.

We will be there in Dec. for the first time, so do you just walk up pay for the cookie and the decorate? Also is there any other activities they do for the Christmas season? THX

Yeah, you just choose what cookie shape you want and pay for it. There are also other snacks to buy but you can't decorate them.
There's entertainment like musical acts and magic tricks and characters come out to visit too. There's coloring for the kids and reindeers right nearby to see along w/ Santa & Mrs. Claus.

they also had a musical show that the kids participated in with a game, and a magic show. There were usually characters around most of the time too--Chip and Dale sat with us during the entire magic show! It was really fun.

Does anyone know if they do this in early Dec? We are going Dec. 7-12. Sun through Thurs. We have never been at Christmas time before and are really looking forward to it. This would be a really fun thing to add to my list of "must dos". My 4 and 6 year old would really enjoy it.

:offtopic: Does anyone also know if they show fireworks every night that early in Dec.? I looked at last years schedule and it said fireworks every night, even when DLR closed early.

Thanks!!

nope--not in there--but that's what happened to us too--we had my friend's twin 18 month olds with us and the characters really spent a lot of time with them!

That is one of our most fav parts of the parks during the holidays. We have gone both during Christmas AND halloween. VERY decorated and the kids LOVE the cookie decorating. They usually have musicians at both halloween AND christmas and lots of fun stuff to do. LOTS of great photo ops and at Christmas Santa and Mrs. Clause are back in the cabin. They have goats you can pet in the pen and reindeer during Christmas. Also the "spared" turkey from the president is there.

It is a really neat area!

The answers to both your questions is YES. :thumbsup2
