Wondering if it is time to sell

We have xxxxx points at xxxx and have actually not used them for over 6 years. we have gone to Disney and loved the Discounts we got with our DVC, but just have not stayed at a resort. We have rented our points out through David's and it has worked perfectly, until 2020. Now with people being able to book cheaper or for a little more direct with Disney it seems the rental market is not going to recover for a long time and I will not be able to rent and cover my dues anymore, without significant risk on my part.

I am wondering if it is time to cut bait and sell our contract, as sad as that makes me. Maybe bank our points and give it one more year to see what happens? I am just not sure what to do at this point. Are ANY of the online brokers any good to deal with anymore or have they all changed their contracts to make all the risk put on the owners?

Anyone have any advice or thoughts on this? Maybe you are in the same situation?

EDITED to remove specifics.

How about transferring points to another owner instead of renting to non-owners? With borrowing being restricted, there are a lot of owners finding themselves short on points for their next reservation. Some members who don't own at your home resort might like to have an 11-month home resort advantage using points they transfer in from you.

But, even giving you that option, I have to say that someone who hasn't used their points for their own vacations in 6 years is the kind of owner who should strongly consider selling.

First, I removed specifics from your post.
IMO, if you are not using it, it’s time to sell and recoup something from the contract.

I agree the rental Market is not going to be what it was for a little while and if you want or need to get things covered, then to me it’s more stress than it may be worth.

The transfer option is a good one as once you do it and have been paid, it’s a final transaction. It may be the only thing I’d try this year and see how you like it. Just remember, it is only allowed once per UY so you’d want to try and transfer away as many as you can to someone.

Sorry about that, I did not know I could not post that info.

It is not a matter of needing to have thing covered, we are totally fine paying the dues and not recouping the money by renting. It just does not a lot of sense.

I never thought about the transfer option, we have never done that and not exactly sure how. I guess I have some research to do. That is why I asked, you guys always have such great ideas!

Have you looked to see what your resort goes for on the resale market? If you have one of the higher value resorts (Beach Club, GFV...etc), it probably makes sense to just sell it.

We ask not to include details like resort or points because others can read it as a for sale, even though that was not the purpose of the post, which of course, we don’t allow,

I have done transfers a few times and quite prefer it to the rentals I have done. After this year, don’t think I will go that way. Id rather transfer for less money, or give to family and friends.
