So much fun!! Here are a few comments:
  • DCA was decorated with even more than I remember from two years ago. Cute little mason jar lights along Grizzly Peaks looked magical in the foggy night.
  • DL had a very poor holiday display overall. Frankly, even the 60th decorations were lackluster. I really missed the castle lights and the holiday window displays.
  • Paint the Night!! Wow!!!
  • VIP Tour got us on twenty rides during a very busy Saturday before Christmas. However, our plaid was not very informed about Hidden Mickeys and Disney history/trivia. That was disappointing because we specifically requested that experience. The Lily Belle, our other request, was being reserved for Club 33 folks. Such a disappointment. I don't know that I would do this tour again, especially since they charge more during the holidays and offer less.
  • Character meals: Surfs Up had the greatest variety. Minnie's had the best characters. Storytellers had the best food quality. We did Goofy's for dinner, so can't compare with breakfast offerings. I guess you just need to do them all for a complete experience.
  • Fantasmic dinner at Blue Bayou was delicious, but really, cushions were just silly. Bring back the dessert package with seats.
  • World of Color--location, location, location! We ate at Ariel's and actually enjoyed the food more than at Blue Bayou. That got us spots right at the upper railing right in the thick of the show. Magical, so magical. I liked the Christmas show much better than the 60th show which was a big advertisement. It seemed to reflect so little of Walt and Disneyland's history.
  • Our favorite restaurant was Storyteller's. Everything was delicious. Love that corn chowder!
  • The GCH was fabulous. Our room was 5242 with a view of Paradise Pier. It was close to the elevators which made taking our service dog out in the middle of the night an easy walk to the grass. BTW--I picked up poop from someone else's dog more than once. Really, people, Disney is so accommodating. Can't you be a bit more responsible?!
  • The GCH had two different caroler groups in the lobby, but I really preferred the Dickens group from before. The gingerbread house in the lobby was amazing!
  • Viva Navidad was so wonderful. Got the spot right in front of the stage by the Jumping Jellyfish. Don't miss it.
  • We were there for a week, with a day off in the middle to rest. Still, we didn't get to do everything on our list. I hope when the new land opens, that DLR offers a longer hopper ticket option.
I would do this trip all over again in a minute, but will have to wait for a couple of years for all of the construction to be finished. Any questions--ask away. I will try to answer them. Happy New Year everyone!

Great recap, Lucysmom2! You said you wouldn't do the VIP tour again, but would you say it would be worth it at another time of the year? I'm hoping I'll one day get a couple families to go in on this with me to lower the "per person" cost. I've always wanted to do it.

Maybe. If you stay on site and use Extra Magic Hour, you can get on all the rides. We would go back to the hotel at lunchtime and then use the evenings for shows. Frankly, I'd put the money into a DLR hotel before a VIP tour. But, if you are afternoon park-goers, it might be more worth it for you.

Yeah. I like to stay at the DLR hotels (not each trip, but as much as I can) and do rope drop, break in the afternoon then close out the park. Maybe if I win the lottery one day! Lol. I'd love to feel like a VIP for a day though!
