Wonderful Panama Canal Sept 2014

:cool1: finally got good news, got excused from jury duty. One less thing to worry about. Recovering from a long illness 17 months but I am beating it. Rest take meds and rest hard because I want to do things but have to listen to my dr.
3 gifts done, one more to do.. Making small things so they will be easy for packing. Is it September yet... :duck:

Yay! that is awesome! It's great getting each little step in place!

We just booked two nights at the Grand Californian for a quick Disneyland visit before the cruise! *does a happy dance*

A number of us are staying in DL hotels or nearby prior to the cruise. We are having dinner at Storytellers on the evening of the 10th and a few of us are then taking the train to San Diego on the morning of the 12th.

I am new to cruising. Just one other 4 day cruise to Mexico Some of the same ports. I want to take full advantage of this cruise. Does anyone have advise for me. I think I have signed up for the fish extenders, need some advice on that.
My wife linda has dietary limitations also. No flour, wheat, potatos, or meat.

:welcome::welcome: I hope that Disney is able to make all the wishes of the folks with dietary issues come true. Surely with all of their expertise and knowledge they can craft amazing edibles for all travelers.

@ Pooh&Tinker....yea, somewhere! Actually on the Wonder they are the old in the bathroom, barely work, limited functionality things...bringing a travel dryer myself!
Cayla

Thanks for the important info about hair dryers!! I have passed this along to Mother, who uses a hair dryer. I myself stay far away from the devices as they turn me into a Hair Bear (if anyone remembers this cartoon):scared1:

Happy to hear that you are on the mend after such a long illness , and even better that you have dodged the dreaded jury duty...congrats.

i find it strange that u dont introduce yourself only to be asked to be added to the fb group

No offense, you probably are lovely, but me too. Welcome to the group, we need details. You should know that I have major turrets syndrome when it comes to young teenagers I curse at them all... :lmao: "Stupid metabolisms that work! Enjoy that bacon! Wait until you get told no mas!"

----
My friend and I went shopping two days ago for clothes (sorry I didn't post yesterday. Had two "funky looking moles" removed. After I spent the whole day watching stand up comedy specials!). Lane Bryant has some cute stuff on sale. I got a new princess skirt for $16!

Hi Jeffrey. Will you tell us more about you, your wife and your school group? You said 200 kids, I'm curious as to how many adults. Many of us have been on this site for over a year and have plans to meet before and during the cruise and feel as if we already know one another. If you are traveling with us, would you mind sharing a bit? Thanks!

Jeffrey, it sounds interesting and difficult to plan a trip for such a large group.

Do you make the kids all stay 4 to a cabin? How about the chaperones?

That's a lot of cabins to book and then the airline flights too?

:scared1:All those details are mind boggling to me. But I'd love to hear about how these things are done and arranged.

I just got home from a periodontal cleaning, face is numb and feels mis-shaped and jaw aches. And still I almost fell out my chair laughing. Thanks I needed this. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Hmmm, I'm just a little suspicious as well...perhaps a little more detail. No offense, but hey, No "Hi there, hey there!" ?
See, some of us are on Cruise Critic too.....
We are a friendly group, but we've all been chatting and sharing....
And you do know DCL prohibits musical instruments on board, don't you?

Has anybody made the trek from Disneyland to the port in San Diego before? That's the only major thing we haven't yet booked. I'm guessing the train is the way to go since a lot of people (including our friends who took the most recent westbound Panama Canal cruise) have mentioned it. I would love to travel with a group if others are planning to meet up and take the train!

There is a groups of us (9) with dinner reservations at Storyteller's Cafe ( Grand Californian)!on the 10th at 7:50 pm and we all reserved Amtrak, Business Class seats for Fri. 12th at 9:08 am, arrives SD at 11:20. We will meet prior to boarding train so we can sit together since you are not assigned an actual seat. If you're interested, please send me a private message. I would have to see if we can add you to the dining reservation. I'm not sure how busy or fully booked in advance the DLR restaurants are. Message me re dining and make your reservation on Amtrak to meet with us for the train. How many are in your travel party? I'll be looking for a PM.

Welcome. Hope you enjoy this 14 day cruise. Did you notify the cruise line about the dietary restrictions? That's important.
Lots of great information if you have time to go through all the posts! You might also want to check out the Cruise Critic Boards for first time cruisers. There is so much info out there! Tell us more about you! Again, welcome!

So I'm reading David McCullough's "The Path Between the Seas" and my friend Em is reading "Panama Canal by Cruise Boat." Words cannot express the difference between the two books. Mine I can read 2 minutes at a time and then feel like it's so dense I need a break. I have to wear my bifocals and sip coffee. I'm on page 100 and taken 2 pages of notes. That book you need a map to read it. I feel like at first I was reading a fantasy novel. The other book is like "pictures! Pretty!"
