WONDER May 20, 2007

Hi everyone. My boyfriend and I will be joining you on the May 20 cruise! It is my second cruise and BF's first. I've been trying to convince him to go for years, and he finally agreed for my 30th birthday. Yay! We're doing the Land and Sea as well (but 3 days in the parks isn't enough!!!) Just wanted to introduce myself!

Hi all!

I (33) was originally scheduled for the May 13, but have a work conflict :furious: . So here we are for May 20. Although I've done 17 WDW trips, this will be only my 2nd DCL.

My best friend & I went to celebrate our doctorates with Land (3)/Sea (4) in Jan. 2006. It was 1000% better than my only other cruise - Carnival in 1995. We were supposed to do the Western in Jan 2007, but frequent flyer miles are *forcing* us to Hawaii instead. :confused3 Although it will be great (except for the flight from IN) to be back in Hawaii, all I can think about is the cruise! :bounce:

So we are moving our Western to Jan. 2008 IF they EVER release the dates. :surfweb: Well, I simply CANNOT wait that long for a cruise, so I'm currently planning to bring my mom (62) on this 4 night cruise - as a surprise! It will all depend on the amount of my tax return! Yikes! :rotfl: In 1998 I took her to WDW & with a slight lie, kept it a secret until we were at baggage claim at MCO! :dance3:

I am nearing obsession about another cruise and want to leave this instant (like all of us)! My last cruise we were upgraded from Deck 2, Cat 9 to Deck 6, Cat 6, but I'm certainly not getting my hopes up about that!

My plans so far? We'll stay on the slip at Nassau to relax either at the adult pool or see a movie; we're both very introverted. I plan to spend most of CC day at Serenity Bay. If it's hot Mom can go back to the ship, because I'm NOT giving that up!

I look forward to some lively chats until departure day!
Gayle :p

Welcome Jacova & Dr. Gayle! Sounds like everyone is getting excited! 6 months just seems soo far away! Dr. Gayle, my husband will finish the course work for his doctorate in May so our cruise will be a celebration of that accomplishment as well!

Barbara, thanks so much for sharing your DCL knowledge with me. I finally actually got the ok from work and booked the vacation so it's official! So far this has been a great incentive for my 12yo DS. We told him he had to have good grades to go and he is doing better in school this year than he ever has. I'm all for Disney motivation! :mickeyjum

Can't decide what to do in Nassau. I've heard good and bad things about the experience so I'm just trying to do alot of research before I make the decision.

Let's keep this thread going and get to know one another! :cheer2:

I'm also having a hard time deciding what to do in Nassau. I've been there once before and we decided not to book any excursions - though i'm a bit sorry that we didn't even get to see Atlantis. I'm thinking maybe just the $20 tour this time. Does anyone have any experience there?

So glad to find this thread. We have this date scheduled for our 5th Disney cruise. We booked this while we were on the 11 day cruise in September. This time we will be cruising with dd, sil and 2 grandkids. Our 2 sons may also be joining us. This will be the first disney cruise for the grandkids (6 &3). I am so anxious for them to get to go on this cruise. Look forward to getting to know more disers going on this cruise. Guess it's time to get a ticker started.

Welcome Carol! Wow, another veteran cruiser. So much cruise experience to tap into for us newbies! :thumbsup2

I've been reading all of the "tip" threads and I'm learning alot. Anyone have any great tips to pass on?

Do you all do door decorating or dressing up for pirate night?

I usually have some magnets for our door, but nothing fancy.

On the 11 day cruise we did dress up for Pirate night. I wasn't going to because I figured I had enough to pack for 11 days. But then my dh and sister started talking and my dh really got into the dressing up thing. It turned out to be a lot of fun. On this cruise we are traveling with our daughter and sil and I seriously doubt if they will dress up. But I do plan on getting something for the grandkids. I know they will enjoy it.

Still waiting to see what the tax return will be. Am I the only person in the country who is really excited about doing my taxes ASAP?!

I think we will fly in the night before & try to stay at the Hyatt. Are you all booking your air ASAP or waiting for a last minute deal. I can't decide!

krzy4disney02 ~ How are you doing with the planning? Have any questions? If land/sea was my first WDW/DCL experience I'd be completely overwhelmed!

Gayle

Wow! Less than 6 monthes now!

Dr Gayle, I too am eagerly awaiting tax season. The more I get, the more plans I can make. Lol!

Your first Disney Cruise was a land & sea wasn't it? Maybe a silly question, but did the Disney transportation get you to Port Canaveral at a decent time? I'm just worried that we won't get to enjoy much of our first day on ship if we get there too late. We won't find out for a while what flights we have cause we booked everything through Disney. I guess they give you that info about 6 weeks before hand. I think my biggest challenge is going to be packing. My soon to be 16 year old daughter is an extremely excessive packer. The kids will be at there dad's and my husband and I will fly in and pick them up and then we will all go together to WDW. It won't give me much time to supervise and rearrange her packing. My son, on the other hand, never packs enough. Should be interesting...

Im still deciding on excursions and such. Have you been to Palo? My husband wants to go to all of the "adults only" areas, but I truly enjoy the company of my children and don't want to force them to do childrens activities if they don't want to. So, I'm not quite sure how I will handle keeping everyone happy. My son will be 3 weeks shy of turning 13, so I don't know if they will let him into the Stack and other "teen" activities or not. He won't want to go do things by himself. Guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Another six weeks or so Dr. Gayle, and we can't start those taxes!

Yep - my last trip was land/sea. The departure time depends on what resort you leave from, as they don't want all the busses getting there at the same time. We left from POR, which was one of the last. I think we left at 12:15-12:30pm. The Deluxe resorts have departure times between 11:15am and noon. (There used to be a rough estimate list on the web, but I can't seem to find it now.) So I guess we got there around 2pm? I don't remember if I recorded the time in my scrapbook or not.

The great part was we didn't have to get in line in the terminal. :yay: Because of land/sea, our check-in was done at the resort. We literally went up the escalators, took 2 photos, & boarded the ship! I know we reserved Palo & bridge tour, dumped carry-ons in cabin, settled in room, and ate lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet all prior to the drill. Does that help?

I used to be one of those 16 year old over-packers. princess: Here are 2 ideas:
1. Give her the suitcase or duffle & have her do a "trial pack". Make sure she knows EVERYTHING she wants to take MUST fit in this bag. (This places the stress on her.) Record everything she's decided to pack and stick to it. If she wants to take something else between now & then, it must be a substitution. (one thing in, one thing out....) :confused3
2. Determine how many outfits she may need (2x day - day & evening?). :teacher: Then give her a travel/space bag for each day or outfit. (Space bags have saved my life. I only use them on the way home: makes laundry concise to provide space to fit purchases in bag!) Remind her she probably won't see anyone she "knows" on the ship and yes, she can wear the same shorts twice - AUGH!

Palo - yes, but only for brunch. Being from Indiana & being a picky eater, I wasn't overly excited. It was ok, but not great. Now the service was GREAT! I think it's be even more wonderful in the evening. I was disappointed about not having the souffle at lunch. Our server called that night and said they'd bring it to our cabin :lovestruc , but we never connected. :sad2:

I'm pretty sure he'll be able to get into The Stack. It's usually an agreed upon choice by you, him, & the staff. I believe I just read a Trip Report that said someone's kid was a month shy of 13 and they had no problem with this.

The dance club was pretty dead when we went, but maybe that was just our cruise! We didn't do the spa, but I think I probably will this time. Thoughts on this? The adult pool was THE BEST. We couldn't hear anything from the other pools! :listen: We went the morning of Nassau and there were maybe 5-8 other people with us & we were so spread out all we heard was light tropical music and the breeze! :thumbsup2

We should try to get this board more active after the holidays. Oh - & I'm on the WPASADI Resort Team #2 - not sure how busy that's going to keep me....

DW and I will be on the Wonder May 20th. It is our first ever cruise, and the 22nd is our 25th wedding anniversary. So we are looking so forward to this, but are complete rookies at this cruise thing. Sure glad I have plenty of veteran cruisers to learn from!!!!

Myself, DH, DS 8, DD 5 and DS just shy of 3 will be there. We also booked a room at the Comfort Suites at Nassau. I am now having second thougths about this. I was just reading the Navigators and I see a couple of activities that my DD would enjoy in the afternoon. Now I am thinking about cancelling the room. This thread is great to see who is going and some of the ages of the children.

Our group will consist of myself and dh and then our dd, dsil and 2 kids. Our granddaughter is 6 and grandson is 3. This will be their first Disney cruise, so I am excited for them to go. :yay: We haven't planned anything for Nassau at this time. I'm guessing my dd and dsil will want to check out Atlantis. After a crazy holiday season I am so ready for this cruise.

Our rooms are on deck 6.

Welcome to all I haven't met yet!

You are so right Carol! It was a crazy holiday season! I adore Christmas, but once it's over, I'm left exhausted. It's going to be crazy right up until cruise time for me. I'm working all the overtime I can to pay for our vacation. I so deserve a vacation! I'm trying very hard to be patient!

Add us to the May 20th Wonder Cruise! We just booked it for our 10th wedding anniversary (which is actually in June, but it was cheaper to cruise in May.) We went on the cruise once before, but it was November and cold so no pool. Plus, it was bumpy so NO Castaway Cay! I was heartbroken. Then to boot I was pregnant and couldn't drink my sorrows away. This time we'll have our 7 and 1 year old daughters with us. Some friends may join us too, because they hate when we do Disney stuff without them.
