Wonder May 17, 2015 3 Night Mexican Riviera

I am really excited, too! I keep reading all these horrid reviews about Ensenada that are a little discouraging. I think we will wait for the excursions to come out, find one that's good for all ages, and make the most of it! I just can't imagine NOT getting off the ship at least once.

We cruise twice a year, it's so challenging with the little ones to get off the ship and do an excursion. Not all the same "amenities" in the other countries. We mostly stay on the ship and enjoy an empty pool or other venues that are also open.

We did a city tour through Ensenada. We stopped at 3 places (the cultural center, a winery and shopping). There were kids on the tour including my son and he said he enjoyed it (except he couldn't have a small glass of margarita nor a small glass of wine!). I think his time we'll just stay on the boat or go to the little marketplace by the pier. The ship does confiscate any slingshots or whips if you buy it there. You'll have to pick it up at disembarkation.

We've been to Ensenada twice (once on Carnival, once on Disney). Both times, we did A Taste of Mexico tour which is a short city tour and then you stop by a restaurant and make your own meal. The chef was hilarious. There are adults and families with children alike. We had our kids with us the first time and they enjoyed it. Our girls have avocado allergies and not a problem getting them accommodated. My husband loved this tour and when I told him we were going to go to Ensenada, he said we are going to have to do A Taste of Mexico, lol. After your meal, you have time to do some shopping. You can return to the bus for a ride back or make your way back on your own. A nice little excursion. Ensenada is just like many tourist towns in Mexico (and like Nassau)....there are many street vendors and store owners who will do what they can to get you to buy from them. A polite no thank you usually works.

I can't remember who told me but apparently in the past few years, the police have been cracking down on things such as the dirty areas, the children who would beg on the streets and crime in general. The merchants want the tourists to come and try to make it more inviting. We did not see any children until after school was out and did not feel that the area was dirty like I have felt when we have gone to Tijuana. We never felt uncomfortable or that we were in any danger.

That is good to hear! Thanks. If we are REALLY good savers, I may try to talk Von into chartering a boat for fishing! If not, it sounds like there will still be some options to look forward to. :)

Peaking in here (you can all blame Linda!). I sent our quote request off to move a dummy booking to the B2B 2 and 3 nighters out of San Diego. This will be our last cruise before our son ages out of the clubs......Hoping it all works out. I can't believe how active this thread is already!

sorry, experimenting on vacation tickers. I think they look soooo cool, but it looks like you have to paste them with each post you want to attach them to. There must be an easier way. I don't consider myself the most tech-savvy person so this may be a lot of work. I am trying to experiment with the ones on DISboards site. I've seen some other ones from other people that look more colorful.

Which ones have you liked and/or were easier to attach to the posts? Thanks.

Bear with me...I'm experimenting and hope this works. If it doesn't, I would love suggestions!

Hurray, it WORKED!!! However, for some reason, the previous cruise countdowns are off even though I re-entered the dates. Must have been something wrong with the website's countdown.

Haha! Hope you can make it Silence. One of those rare ops to sail out of CA and the pricing reflects that. Know what you mean about aging out of the clubs. Michelle turns 18 the day before we sail on the 2 nighter May 17, 2014.

Regarding the tickers. You don't have to paste them into each post. If you place them in your signature they will automatically appear in every post. Just click on the UserCP near the top of the page and one of the links in the left hand column will be "Edit Signature". Just paste the code for the ticker you like in the signature box and click "save signature". You can even preview it first. That way your ticker appears automatically and you don't have to paste it each time.

HTH

Awesome!!! Thanks for letting me know. I'll experiment later! :)

We are also on this cruise :)

Nubia (32), Pancho - 33 (DH), Anais - 10 (DD), Sebastian - 8 (DS)

This is our 2nd time on the Wonder & cruising with DCL. We were on the MR cruise in Jan/2012. We have done this Ensenada cruise with Carnival 2x and doing it for a third time in June

We have been EAGERLY awaiting a cruise longer than 2 days ;). Tried to convince DH to do the 2 night - but it was a no way - not for that price. Was hoping to turn into a 5 day.

We are on Deck 2 - 2136 and very much want to be apart of the FE! It was so much fun the last time we were on board.

I'm hoping this is the first of many more West Coast Cruises to come.

All I can say is I love it!:cool1::thumbsup2::debwalk: I'm so glad we are here and talking about this trip. I can't wait to surprise DH. Thank you to those who descried Ensenada! We have never been, but I think we might just stay on the ship. It's such a short cruise I would like to spend as much time on the Wonder as possible.:goodvibes

I'm also really glad I'm getting a chance to see the Wonder before she gets her big refurb. :upsidedow I'm really going to miss the old style of ship. I never got to sail as a guest on the Magic before her refurb. I was SUPPOSED to be on her first sailing after dry dock, but of course that got cancelled. :crazy2:

That must have been soooo disappointing to not be on that cruise out of dry dock. I'm sorry that it got cancelled. It must have been amazing to have been an entertainer on Magic. Did you book another cruise to replace it or is our cruise the replacement? I am curious as to what changes they would do to Wonder. :scratchin

We were actually REALLY lucky and we managed to jump ship to a 7-night on the Fantasy that was sailing at the same time. We were supposed to be concierge, so we had to miss out on that, but it was better than canceling our vacation. They made an exception for us because I was very pregnant, and any more time would have meant I was "too pregnant" to sail. And then after that, of course, I'd have a baby who was too young to sail! So they squeezed us in on the Fantasy, we barely had to make any changes to our vacation schedule at all. It was a huge bummer to miss out on the Magic and to have to choose new excursions and reorganize adult dining and all that, but we had an absolutely amazing trip, it didn't sour our experience at all. After all, we got an extra two days out of it, who could complain about that!!?

We sailed the Magic Thanksgiving week and it was awesome. Great to hear Disney was so accommodating. Wish all the cruise lines were like that. Carnival's answer would have been something along the lines of, how is that our problem?

Well, truth be told, a LOT of people were very unhappy about how it was handled! Most people ended up losing a lot of money and suffering a lot of heartbreak. Especially those with small children who could not take more vacation time within the parameters DCL set for rebooking. We would have been in that same boat had it not been for us having been booked in concierge. There were only a few cabins left on that Fantasy sailing, it was almost sold out before the Magic even cancelled. We were called by the concierge reps that morning, everyone else got either an email or a voice message to tell them about the cancellation! Brutal if you ask me. The only reason we were able to afford concierge in the first place was because we had 25% off from our hurricane Sandy cruise. So basically, I'm the worst cruise-picker of all time, ever, lol... Hopefully 3rd time is the charm and we will break the spell! ;)

The sad part is Disney handled this better than most cruise lines handle similar issues. It's not good news for anyone involved. When Carnival canceled Triumph sailings they ran an article in US Today saying everyone impacted gets a 25% discount on a future cruise. That wasn't true at all, you had to fit into their tiny parameter window. RCCL sometimes does OK in these situations, but again none of them handle it the way you might expect.
