Wonder - January 21, 2011 The Cruise To Nowhere In Particular..

I never have good luck with night shots with my digitals. If you use the flash, and your subject is too far away then it's grainy and dark and if you don't use the flash, you lens is open too long and you get blurring.

I usually set it for a night shot and then balance it on a railing. Of course I only post my good shots, not the 500 other blurry ones :teeth:

Last year was the first time I experimented with no flash at night

I was shocked at how good the no flash pictures came out.

Yeah, no flash works great but you really need to tripod it to get the best picture. (a stationary subject also works best)

I can't tell you the number of people that I hear who are disappointed with the pictures that they take of my house during Christmas. They, too, are amazed when I tell them to turn off the flash and try to hold the camera really still. The lights look so much more amazing.

Greetings, all;

My name is Tess and my DH is David. We will be joining you all in this exciting sailing. We will be doing the WBPC REPO and decided to stay onboard. I did not realize this thread was so long already, I will have to go back and get caught up. I hope everyone is doing well!

WELCOME! One of my cruise-mates will be on the WBPC with you. Three of us will be joining her for the two day to celebrate my 'little' sister's birthday. We've put her in charge of making sure we get great servers and a good table...she has two weeks to scope it all out! :rotfl:

The three of us (Nan, Peg & I) will be joing Cheri...hence...four total IN OUR STATEROOM. Other VERY special friends will be on the cruise too!:grouphug:

You have early seating don't you.....and why? Wouldn't you LOVE to switch to late and dine with us??? Hmmmmmmmm???

We have been mulling it over. There are 4 of us, Bubba's parents are also cruising with us for my BIRTHDAY. I gotta say this is gonna be one H-ell of a party.

We have early dining so that we wont be so stuffed when we hit the bar!!!:thumbsup2

Actually, we've talked about maybe not even making it into the dining rooms at all!. Perhaps one entire evening spent in Diversions drinking, eating nachos, hot dogs and chicken wings all night! :lmao: Peg said she didn't feel Palo was mandatory for part of the celebration...good thing because I'm betting it will be hard to get in with only two nights available.

Love the Diversions idea. :thumbsup2

WELCOME!

I'm nursing that "What Happens In Vegas Stays in Vegas" feeling :3dglasses:rolleyes1

Flew out to Vegas on my birthday Tuesday to meet up with a childhood best friend who flew in from Oklahoma with her family for her son's 21st birthday.
Only stayed one night but wished I stayed more or better yet, maybe it's good I didn't :cool1::cool1::cool1: Hadn't seen her in 30 years when we graduated from high school. :hug:

Now, back to normal life to dreaming about the cruise :littleangel:

I am just getting through this thread, and am really loving this group. You all sound like such a hoot! I don't know what DCL has planned, but we will be on the ship, that is all that matters!
Christine, I am loving the pictures, keep them coming! :thumbsup2
Things I am planning to do this cruise:
* Palo dinner
* Breakfast on our verandah
* Exotic Rassul with DH

Things I am hoping Disney does:
* DREAMS, the best show at sea
* Palo Brunch
* Free DOTD :rotfl:

I am really glad DCL counts this cruise towards CC as we will be PLATINUM after this cruise! :dance3:

Oh, and happy early birthday, Des! We will surely be there for the party in the suite! :cool1:

I'm hoping (against Hope) for a Palo Brunch. I'd love to do this with my In-Laws.

We did a Verandah Breakfast once. Laura and I loved it, but the Kids whined that it was too Hot out to eat. One this cruise they'd whine that it's too cold! Good thing I have an inside!

NICE! I'll not get to Gold until probably 2013. (Really leaning toward Aulani in 2012, A bunch of people that I have met on Disney Cruises are talking about going then AND it'll be near my 50th Birthday!)

Okay, here's a question for you experienced DCL cruisers. I'm paid in full for this cruise and have it set up for myself, my friend and his son. But, what if I wanted to make a change and remove my friend and his son from the cruise and put someone else in their place? Would I be facing any kind of penalties for those changes?

I'm not certain I'm going to make the change, but I want to consider all my options. That same friend, his son and I just returned from WDW and the final night there, we had a bit of a situation at the hotel pool. My friend got himself dead drunk and, at this moment, I'm not inclined to take a cruise with him, where the temptation to do nothing but drink will be very high.:sad2: We've had a very serious discussion about what occurred and what steps I believe he needs to take in his life. He's assured me he will not drink at all on the cruise, if that's what I require of him. But, I'm still not sure what to do.

His son knows nothing about the cruise, so he won't be devastated if he doesn't get to go. Just considering my options. So, is it possible to change the passengers in the stateroom with me, without incurring penalties or losing the room? :confused:

You can make your changes without penalty up until the 'official' paid if full day (doesn't matter that you paid early). I think that's 11/7. After that the name change charge isn't too awful (we'd need to look that up).

If you take them off now BUT wanted to add them back later, you could find that would not be possible if his son's age group has maxed out. Same story if your 'replacement guests' ;) included children and you waited very long to switch to them (unless that child is a similar age to your friend's son)

So you've got two months to...um...'witness his sincerity' on the drinking issue.

As long as YOU are the lead on the room, you can move around the guests (keeping an equal number) with no penalties OTHER than the name change. If you add a fourth, there would be the additional charge for that person, of course.

Magix,

I sympathise with your situation! My mom is a recovering alcoholic and the only times she'd fallen off the wagon were 1) a cruise with us (it was aweful and ruined it for us completely) and 2) a trip to Las Vegas.

The places that have this type of huge temptation (ie 10+ bars on a cruise ship and free dinks in Vegas in casinos) are just not good for people who can't control themselves. I am not sure if he is an alcoholic or just on the way to becoming one, but I can tell you from first hand experience that it's going to ruin your vacation completely if he does end up drinking so much again.

Sadly, my mom cannot come to Alaska with us because I refuse to have a repeat of 3 years ago and I also just found out that if you have had a DUI in the last 10 years, they don't let you into Canada!!

Hope you join us but I would caution you to be careful with people who make promises to not drink. They are always with good intentions up until they buy that first drink... then it's downhill for everyone involved.
