Wonder - January 21, 2011 The Cruise To Nowhere In Particular..

Booked this cruise as well and was able to snag the SPH room :cool1: (cat 10A) DH wanted a bigger room since we'll be taking our son and niece. Can't wait!

We are debating on whether to book this cruise...I know the weather will be cold and maybe some rain. Would it be worth the money to stay inside? Any opinions?

Thanks in advance for the feedback! :)

congrats on the SPH room. I noticed a few days ago they were all gone. I got one of those for our Oct 2011 cruise. This one I didn't care much since it is short.

Kayochan,

Are you planning any future cruises with Disney? Have you sailed with them before?

This will be a good introduction for the uninitiated, but as I pointed out before, if you think that you'll be sailing with Disney in the future, then you can book that cruise while onboard this one. The discounts that you recieve will almost cover the cost of this cruise. (10% off cruise + $200 OBC if you book a 7 night)

You're right it'll be cold, but I bet that I'll not be able to dissuade my children from the Mickey Pool. The'll be swimming for sure. As for me and my wife, well be happy. It's a beautiful ship and I don't mind spending time indoors in it. But, I can also take my iPad out to the deck, bundle up and read a good book. (I haven't done that yet!)

A bad day on a cruise beats a good day on land, almost every time. There are lots of activities to do inside and the cruise staff has "in case of rain" things all the time at the ready. This is the time to get to know the ship and all she has to offer. It will give you a good insight into to that side of cruising. Yes, winter in LA can be cold and rainy, but you will find a lot of people get off the ship and reread that navigators and ask, how did I miss so much? On a normal cruise you are in port most days, and you have excursions, this cruise will be afternoon and evening stuff Friday, all day and night stuff on Saturday and home again Sunday morning. Not a lot of time to do it all, but plenty of time to do a lot. Remember that there is an enclosed observation area above Cove Cafe for adults, too. Somewhere to sit and enjoy the scenery even if it is raining.

just booked a 10c for $688 (2a, 1k), not sure what to expect but very excited!

I think it is so worth the price. Just look at what a weekend at DL would run with a stay on property. Another plus is that it counts to your CC level. The time off of work is minimal for us since we are just a little over an hour away from port. This will be our first time on the Wonder and a great way to check her out before our Alaska cruise in Aug. And I'm planning on booking a dummy date on board. By then 2012 rates will be out and we may know whats up with Fantasy. :goodvibes

I got the $25 online and $50 Disney Visa credits too. I agree we did great!

I paid using my Disney Visa but i forgot about this additional $50 OBC , i will call first thing tomorrow a.m. and hopefully get my credit. Did u guys have to put in some code or anything? thx.

I'm not sure that you need to enter a particular code. On my first cruise I never entered a code and I got the OBC. Of course my TA may have done it for me. Let me know what you find out.

Just found out about this cruise yesterday and was able to still book a sideways cabin. We are so excited about this cruise. This is the same weekend we always go to DL and it will cost about the same (if not less). I am hoping they count this as a "cruise" so I can be at the gold level before my Dream cruise. I am also hoping I can rebook the 2nd part of my Dream b2b and get the 10% and OBC.

Yep, someone on another thread called DCL and confirmed that this short cruise counts toward your CC level. This cruise will put me at 4 cruises at the end of 2011.

Wow, the more and more I read and think about this it sounds like it would be a fun quick "DCL" fix. We are annual passport holders and love to stay on property, especially the Grand Californian. For two nights, with all the additional costs is always over 1,000.

After getting sunburned in Palm Springs this past week end, I'm okay for enjoying the ship itself instead of worshiping the sun again ;)

We are 45 min. from the port. I would just plan to get there early as possible to get the full advantage of half a day on the ship Friday. I just wish they wouldn't kick us off the ship Sunday morning :) At least when you stay at the hotel you still get the full day at the park.

I'm liking this the more I think about it - :thumbsup2

joining in from the other thread. so many questions, how will the restaurants work, what will the entertainment be?

It should count..there is no minimum. We hit 5 cruises with our PC cruise..not that this will give us a lot of perks on this cruise :)

You should be able to rebook onboard with no problem.

The Price was not too bad really. $209pp for adults and $169pp for children for Cat 11B. For a weekend getaway... Not too bad. I'd spend almost that much for the Grand Californian for two nights.

EXACTLY! Two nights...sometimes even one night, depending where we have dinner (Napa Rose)..... we spend 1k staying there and we live 30 minutes away. But the experience of staying at the Grand California -- we just love.

So this works for us!

I have no clue as the how they will do the restaurants. I guess they could cycle everyone through a restaurant for lunch on Saturday. That will make sure that everyone can experience all three.

So...
APT rotation has dinner in Animators on Friday, lunch in Parrot Cay on Saturday and dinner in Tritons on Saturday

etc.

I'm just guessing.

As far as entertainment goes... I'm hoping for either something I haven't seen yet (Like Villians) or something more interactive like Pirate Night.

Any good hotels near the port that we can hang out at the night before?

We would come from Tucson on Thursday and stay the night close to the port. Then our 2 night becomes a 3 night trip for just the cost of hotel night.

Ya, it's too bad they can't extend the debarking until noon or so. That would help get in a little extra.

Ok, i just called...no worries, it didn't show because i only put the deposit but once i paid in full then it'll show. So $75 OBC not bad at all..it'll cover our tips:thumbsup2.

I also hope they do the Character breakfast, though in my experience from my past 2 disney cruises it's always been at Parrot Cay...do they always do it there?

I'm in Phoenix and wondering the same thing. Would you be driving there? Where do you park your car for the 2 nights you're on the ship?

I'm a cruise virgin, but my mom mentioned wanting to take a big family Disney Cruise one day (she shouldn't have said that in front of me, because I'm holding her to it, LOL!) I'm thinking of booking just her and me for this cruise as a mother's day gift and then booking a 2012 cruise for the whole family on while on board.

It is always possible we could be having a heat wave that weekend. It does happen!
