Wonder in Alaska!!! May 27, 2013

Hello everyone! I wanted to bring up the conversation of time, when and where the DIS Meet will take place at.

Let me summarize what we had discussed in previous posts. Someone had mentioned the fact of having the DIS meet on our first sea day. However, the general consensus was that the first day will be the best option.

Here are the details:

What: Disboard Meet Up
Where: Promenade Lounge, Deck 3, Midship
When: Before Muster Drill
Time: 3:00-3:45 (Muster drill is at 4:00)
Why: To put faces with names!

NOTE: The DIS meet is for everyone who wants to join. On previous cruises there was always a misconception that it was just for people participating in the Fish Extender, but this is not the case. Anyone on this thread/board is welcome to attend!

We're going to have to pull out of the FE exchange this time around unfortunately. I've had a couple of personal things come up for March, April & May, so I'm not going to be able to get our FE stuff together in time. (We're also the one with the 20 month old) Sorry about that, but I figured it's better to bow out earlier rather than later!

Awesome! One of us will be there (we're hoping to get DS down for a nap before the drill, so one of us will have to stay in the cabin) for sure!

I hope everything is okay!:thumbsup2 FE are fun, but also can be very burdensome when you are super busy. Also, money wise, it can be taxing too. We were talking about acupuncture, and not that this is waying on your decision, but if I had to choose, it would be acupuncture hands down. I always find it a challenge to find a FE gift that isn't cheesy, isn't too big, somewhat lightweight, and isn't too expensive and something someone would want. :rolleyes1

:hug:Hope it all works out for you.

Aw, thank you! It's all really good stuff (asked to take on a much larger role in an organization I'm a part of, etc) so I've very lucky there. :thumbsup2 It's just not going to leave me with any spare time for the next few months (but I'll get a great vacation at the end of it! ;)). And I'm pretty sure that acupuncture is going to have to go in the vacation budget now that I know they'll have someone on board! :)

Sounds good to us! Looking forward to meeting everyone, ALOHA, Karen and Ron:cheer2:

Is the meet up normally disboards members and their families or just the disboards members? Either answer is fine with me, I’ve just never been to one before so don’t know what to expect.

The DIS meet up is for anyone and everyone. In the past DIS meets that I've been to, it's been both. Sometimes they bring the family and other families will have just one person show up because the kids are off exploring the ship and one person shows up to represent the family.

Also, the DIS meet helps with communication for the Fish Extender if anyone who was GTY still doesn't have a stateroom until boarding. This has happened before and makes it easy to get the missing stateroom numbers.

it is up to you. I normally just go because it is just me who posts on the boards. (John went once.. and was bored... he didnt know anyone. this was years ago and our group went through 5 threads -- quite the chatty bunch!!

In our family it is just me going, too. Graham does not really get the DIS.

I have just found a craft to do with our spare lanyards. If anyone has any spares laying around and would like to bring them, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Just saw on the forum that there are Canadian discounts for the Alaska May 27 cruise.

Also read that there are *GT rates for the May 20 LA-Vancouver cruise. I know some of you are on that, not sure if you can take advantage.

I am patiently waiting for something for the May 27 Alaska (KSF, MIL,*GT). Would love to get a discount.

Good Luck

Can you take advantage of a discount once you have a reservation and all that? What are (KSF, MIL, *GT)?

Thanks

This made me laugh because my DH (Greg) is the exact same way. He doesn't get the whole DIS thing at all! :lmao:

Thank you so much! DH called today, they said we were eligible for the credit, so our travel agent called back and got us a credit for it.

We were able to - the Disney person told us that they'll do a limited number of credits this way (I'm guessing that's why it said new reservations). Our travel agent called earlier today & got us the credit. :thumbsup2

Yay! More money for all the things I'll buy onboard ;)

I'm just waiting for a discount for US residents! Just a bummer that Canadian's get one and we US people don't. Disney might be struggling to sell out this cruise. If you search for cabins there is a lot of availability.

KSF-Kids sail Free
MIL-Military rate
*GT-highly discount rooms. You would book a IGT for inside, OGT for oceanview, or VGT for veranda.

In the past Disney has just applied the KSF to already booked rooms. They could always change that. With the military rate it has to be a new reservation, so would have to cancel and lose either deposit or % of fare, depending on when the rate came out. *GT has to also be a new reservation as well.

So this morning I ran out of conditioner in the shower. I had my daughter hand me some of our DCL conditioner. I got out of the shower and had her smell my hair......we both freaked out! We wish the cruise was this week!!!!!:cheer2:
