In case you missed the planning report...
Me (36) and mom (72), travelling with my friend from work and his 3 (now 2 ) friends. Three night Wonder cruise, then 6 nights at WDW. First Disney cruise for all...
Tuesday, May 8
Got up with Mickey's call at 7:00, dressed and got the first bus to the Magic Kingdom at 8:00. Got to Tony's Town Square before it opened, and checked in for our 8:30 PS. We were like the second table seated, right next to the cute Lady and the Tramp fountain. I can't believe in all our trips to Disney we've never eaten here...it's a beautiful restaurant. Breakfast was the best of the whole trip...3 big slices of French Toast drizzled with icing, ham, berries, and the free cinnamon roll. The French Toast and ham were $6.50...a real bargain at Disney (and really, anywhere). This is now our new favorite breakfast spot, and we were looking forward to our dinner here Thursday evening.
Headed off to Buzz (mom's fav) and rode twice. It drizzled as we were walking to Tomorrowland for about 5 minutes. This would be the only rain we would see the whole time at Disney. Didn't score too well (I got 188,000 once), but we like this one.
I rode Space Mountain in the stand-by line. It ended up being about a 20 minute wait, but we would not be in this area again so I didn't want to do fastpass. A good ride.
Headed over to Pooh. The stand-by line said 35 minutes, but I said no way...I could see there was no one in line (this is why outside lines are sometimes better...I don't really trust the wait times, but like on Space Mt. it ends up being longer than you thought cause you can't see the line). It took us 12 minutes to ride. Hmmm. Mom's first time on this one. I know it's a kiddie ride, but when Pooh is your favorite (and when your boss at work calls you "Poohbear"), you just have to ride.
Next we headed to one of my all time favs...Haunted Mansion. No wait. The riverboat was ready to leave, and since it's been quite awhile since I rode it we went on. Mickey rode with us, so it was a good oppurtunity to get a photo with him without waiting in line. I won't wait to see characters, but if I can walk right up I think they make cute pictures.
I rode Big Thunder Mt. and Splash Mt. while mom sat out. Hardly any lines at all. Great day to be at the MK (unlike Thursday will be...YIKES). We went on Pirates (there was a little wait), and then looked around the new shopping area and tried to see the Aladdin ride through the wall. It was around 1:20 and we had done everything we wanted to here, so we headed out.
Went ot the room to freshen up and grab our mugs, then to Mara for lunch. I had the sugar cane chicken and a cookie. I was kind-of dissapointed in the chicken...very dry. I love chicken satay, and thought it would be more like that. The pap that came with it was interesting. Mom had a burger. And, of course, free sodas!
I decided to head over to MGM early (we were meeting the boys at 5:00) while mom went to the room for a nap. The bus came right away, and AKL is the first stop at MGM...woo hoo! I was in the gates by 2:30. Wow...that seems fast, but it happened!
It was great here today too (unlike EPCOT yesterday). No crowds at all. I got a fastpass for the 4:15 Millionaire show (just in case), and then ran back to my 2 favorite rides. Rode the Rock'n'Roller coaster twice, and then Tower twice (seatbelt seat both times...there were so few people that the CMs were just letting everyone walk on and pick a seat). TOT is my favorite attraction in all of WDW! Went to the Millionaire show...very fun. Even though I got all the answers right, I never made the top 10 scores. You must have to be pretty darn fast!
Walked around back and down New York street. Grabbed the first Mickey ice cream bar of the trip and a water and sat near Gertie's to wait for the boys. When they came, everyone said "what does everyone want to do?" and one of the boys said "I'd like to do TOT and R'n'R". Okay, no arguement from me there! So, I had my third ride on both of these today.
We were meeting a couple that lives in Orlando for dinner. The husband worked with myself and my friend at our office as a temp a few years ago. His wife's job transferred her to Orlando, so off they went. He worked for Universal for awhile, but is now somewhere else. He keeps trying to get something (professional) with Disney, but hasn't had any luck yet.
Met them and mom at Brown Derby at 6:10 and were seated. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant, but the food usually dissapoints me. I had a Cosmopolitan, potato and mushroom appi (mom and I split...this was good), and tuna (okay). We had the Fantasmic dinner thing, and by the time we finished, it was time to head over for the 9:00 show. We got in about 40 minutes before, and the seats were pretty high up but decent. One of the boys was feeling a bit tired, so he did not stay for the show.
Excellent show as always. We even saw the EPCOT fireworks before it started (guess MGM was running late). We walked out fairly quickly (mom was really moving), sort of out the back way, but we were fooled (thought we'd come out more near the entrance like we came in) and ended up coming out somewhere on Sunset Blvd (though not near the theater entrance). Hopped right on a bus (yeah...first stop baby). Back to AKL at 10:00. I love staying at a resort that has just one stop and doesn't go to any other resorts. Really saves time. Stopped for our soda/coffee/snack at Mara (I had started to feel a little blood sugar drop at Fantasmic...I was trying to find a person selling regular Coke, but none was near our area). Showered, trip notes, blah blah blah. Bed by 11:30.
Tomorrow...Animal Kingdom and Marketplace...
