If Cabanas/Marceline Market were open for a sit-down dinner (as Cabanas used to be), how many nights on a seven-night cruise would you eat there instead at the normal rotational dining room?

Zero. We like eating in the MDR’s and Palo. We also weren’t really fans of Marceline market on the Treasure. They seemed to serve the same food every day for lunch. At least at cabanas on the fantasy there was some variation.

Okay so this isnt really a question that is easy to answer with a poll. Like a 7 night cruise on which ship? Where are we? Because I might use it on cruise where I care about ports maybe... Also what hours is it open? What is the menu? Is it a buffet? Sit down?

For instance- 7 nights on the Treasure, limited hours 5:00-7:30 sit down, limited menu (lighter notes)- Zero
7 nights Alaska and I cannot get late dining? Maybe once or twice at most

ETA- Also important, is it a ship cruisers have been on before or not... I think DCL vets who sail frequently are more likely to skip rotational dining than new cruisers

I could imagine not going to Worlds of Marvel on the Wish just to avoid the show for example which I have seen enough.

Also, if they could make it work a little easier for young kids with a shorter meal, I might consider it, but part of the DCL experience is so tied to the rotational dining experience.

I answered zero. Both the wife and I like eating at the MDR's for dinner. She also eats at the MDR's for both breakfast and lunch, while I'm fine eating at Cabanas for those two meals.

Zero. We did it twice back in the day and it was not a good experience either time. But even if they brought it back and improved it, I wouldn't do it again. The MDRs are the well-deserved focus at dinnertime.

Would depend on the sailing. We did a repositioning last year, had an over night stop so no need to get back before dining starts. We tried to get back for late dining but we're about 30 mins late so we has to scrounge at the pool deck or order room service. We would have gone then. If we had a sailing with later all aboard port times than dining (e.g. if we got first seating), maybe depending on if trying to make dining time would have an effect on our port experience.

On one of the Dream Class ships, I really dislike the 1st Enchanted Garden menu, we normally try to line that up with Palo Dinner instead, but if we couldn't I might head towards another option. However, as long as we have a good serving team, we don't like missing dinners with them.

Weve not sailed wish class ships yet so I can't say if there is anything that would make me dodge MDR dining on there.

I would say that in Alaska (or any place with long port times that overlap dining times) I would probably forego the MDR to eat at the buffet if I missed our dinner time because I was off the ship

Most likely zero. I like rotational dining. I honestly have a hard time even skipping a night to do Palo- and that’s a great experience! Just can’t see myself electing to skip a rotational dining for what would likely be a sub-par experience in Cabanas/MM.

I could see going there several times ... I put 3.

It depends on ... have I been to that MDR before? Have I seen that dinner show before? Do I like what is offered on the Cabana's / Marceline menu vs. what is offered in the MDR? How busy has our day been, how tired are we, how much do we want to put up with crowds and a lengthy meal starting at 8:15 and food often not arriving until 8:45? (we always do late dining). Is there anything we'd like to do in the evening that we'd be freed up for if we didn't have the lengthy MDR meal? etc.

Our most recent cruise was Treasure 7 nights. Even if Marceline had been available, I probably would have done MDR all nights since it was all new to me. If I went on Treasure again, I could really see eating at Marceline sit-down several times.

I don't necessarily want a sit down option, but I wouldn't mind a small buffet or more pool deck food in the evening. I'm a notorious snacker and around 8 or 9 I'm looking for something to snack on.

I voted 4. We've been on a number of DCL cruises, so the food has gotten very repetitive. Also, we just sometimes don't like the time involved and love the flexibility a buffet offers. While this may be an extreme example, we got off a HAL 7-night Canadian Maritimes cruise last month and did not eat in the MDR a single time!

It depends. If we are doing a back to back - more likely. If there was a menu we didn’t enjoy - more likely.

If I know the restaurant is going to be loud and hard to speak or listen to my family - I would be more likely to go.

Also, if our dining time or we had table mates we don’t vibe with - more likely.

Is it the length of time eating in the MDR takes, or the set time (8:15 or 5:45) of the meal, wanting to eat earlier or later?

The length is fine since I feel like I’m in control of that - I can voice if I want it sped up or down.

It’s usually the menu and the noise that makes me want to dine elsewhere. Or sometimes we just want something low key and not a big production.

As others have noted, it depends on a lot of factors.

Have I recently had the menu being served in the MDR that night?
Is it a late port day (especially if I have main dining)?
Am I sailing concierge (sometimes we just do lite bites and dessert in the lounge)?

Cabanas was sit down and only open from 6:30 - 8:30pm. Late excursions would have to hurry to Cabanas to get seated before 8:30. A buffet might not have the customers and the food may be sitting longer than one would like. I think it is a lose/lose proposition for DCL. I think they should have the quick service places open longer.

With that said, I’d love to have a Cabanas dinner as I’m tired of the same old menu and shows in the dining rooms.
