Wonder 8/9/09

Hi! We're total Disney newbies and are on this cruise! My parents are taking all my siblings and everyone and we're doing three days in the park beforehand too! I'm a little scared, we're not used to traveling like this! Especially with two fairly little kids. But I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun!

Welcome,

We need a way to meet everyone, will work on that unless others have an idea.

Good Morning Cruisers!

:welcome: Marilyn!

Yes, let us come up with a place and time to get together, it looks like there are only a few of us.

Have a great day!

Hello All....We are booked on the cruise on the 9th. It is me (34) my DH (38), my DD (7) and my DS (2). We cannot wait. :cool1: This will be our 2nd Disney cruise, although we have cruised with Carnival and Royal Caribbean. :) Danielle

Good to have ya all along, I am ready to kinda relax.... that will never happen.

:welcome: danielle! This seems to be a small group, but we should pick a meeting place and time to at least say Hi to each other! Any suggestions?

Thanks for the welcome :)! Sure I am in for meeting to say hi :yay: I am not sure when or where either, any ideas?? Danielle

Will work on something, usually Starboard side deck 10 for sailaway has worked before...

Now to figure out a way to ID eack other...

Scott and I should be wearing the lanyards that we have for the next cruise (we are doing a B2B and the next one has a larger group) that will say something like Wonder 10th Anniversary Cruise. For sail away, we are usually wearing our grass skirt fraternity t shirts, which we may wear anyway for the sailaway party - they are lime green. We will have the grass skirts for the next cruise, but doubt we will take them out for this one. I hope we get a chance to meet!

Just two weeks ago, and on quite a whim, "we" decided to join this cruise.

It will be me (41), DW (40), DS(11) and DD (23mo). We've read through the booklet and watched the videos on-line, but I'm still a bit lost on just how the whole thing works.

I've registered the young ones, but haven't scheduled anything.

Is this an appropriate place to ask about these things, or should I head to a different thread?

Thanks!

Paul

Paul you bet it is the place to ask, a few of us have been on a couple of DCL sailings.

So ask away...

Scott,

Thank you.

I really don't know where to begin.

I guess there's a pirate deck party. Do people dress up for it? If so, do a lot? We have costumes, should we bring them? Does it happen more than once per cruise? It sounds like things start at dinner, but is it a specific restaurant? Do people dress up for that?

When we schedule things, like bicycle riding on Castaway Cay, are we assigned a specific time?

If we want to do one of the adult only things, should we schedule a dinner (does the Wonder offer an adult only dinner?), or just plan on visiting on of the other adult only places? Do you have to reserve seats in those places if it isn't for dinner?

I have a lot more questions, but these are the ones that come to mind right this second that I haven't found answers (or at least clear answers) for on the cruise site.

Thank you.

:welcome: Paul and family!

I will try to answer some of your questions - my husband - (ScottH) - I am sure will jump in here too.
Dinners - you will be assigned a dining rotation, there are 3 resturants on the rotation, you will be in each once, and the first one twice. Each resturant has it own theme, but on special nights - like Pirate night - all the resturants have the same menu and same entertainment. Some folks do dress up for Pirate night - we do have Pirate costumes packed! Palo's is the adults only resturant - if you want to eat there, you will have to make reservations, you can do so on line, or right when you board the ship. They do have a dress code, I understand it has been relaxed to men have to wear a collared shirt (it used to be jacket), women cannot wear shorts. There is an extra charge for Palo's to cover the tips for the staff, as they are separate and will not get the tips you pay your dining staff at the end of the cruise, I think it is $5 or $10.

We have never used the night club (adults only) places at night - (we usually have the late seating, and pretty much go staight to bed afterwards) - but they are first come first served. I have never heard that people were turned away - we do have friends that frequent them - but some may be more crowded depending on how popular the show is. These should not be confused with the nightly entertainment in the theatre, that is either just before or just after dinner, depending upon your seating. We do enjoy these shows a lot.

On Castaway Cay, I think you just go to the bike rental place, and rent bikes by the hour, I do not think you are assigned a time - I do not think that they run out of bikes. (We have never done this.) You can also rent inner tubes or rafts, snorkel gear on Castaway Cay - you can reserve this stuff in advance, or just go to the rental shack and get them when you get on the island. I know the snorkel gear rental is for the day, I think the rafts are the same. We spend most of our time on the adult beach, it is calmer than the family beach, or the teen beach.

I hope this helps, Scott may jump in with more ideas. If you have more questions - just ask.

Have a great day all - we are really looking forward to meeting all of you!

Lynn,

Thank you for your patience and guidance. I'm sure it will be easier than it seems, but we've never been in a cruise and it just seems like there are of a million things to collect, confirm, complete, reserve, schedule, etc.

I'm sure more questions will pop into my head the next couple of days, but your insight has made it sound a lot less intimidating. I just like to know what is going in so I can make sure my family enjoys the trip.

Thank you for all the info.

Hope to meet you all.

Paul

Paul - you and your family will have a great time - it is hard not to have a great time on a Disney Cruise! If you have any other questions - just ask - Scott and I have done a few cruises and should be able to answer most of your questions.

Hi also to Danielle, Marilyn and Tinksmyfavorite! Hope to get to meet all of you on this cruise!

Hey Lynn! Wish I was joining you on this cruise, but no such luck. Guess I won't see you until the 13th. Oh well......

Hey, if you and Scott get a chance will you post on our thread for the 13th who is on as cruise director? If I know by Monday night, then I can pack their favorite GS cookies. I have a list of each cruise director's favorite. Then I can pack more smartly since I am only trying to bring one checked bag.

Thanks!

See you soon.

Linda - will try to, Scott I think will have internet on his phone while we are still in port - we might even be able to post something.

To everyone else, this is coming up soon! Are you all packed? Can't wait to meet you!

Paul sorry I did not get back to you but Lynn did, work got in the way.
