Apparently, my revelation that I was doing Atkins on Easter was taken to heart by a member of my family.

As I took my nightly walk tonight, I was passing my sister's home, where her DH was mowing the lawn. I stopped to talk to him, and discovered that he has been on Atkins for the last 10 or so days.

He has already shed 9 pounds, but most amazingly, he has discontinued using Insulin to control his Diabetes!

This man was taking twice-daily injections of 60 units of Insulin each and every day. He has gone from needing 120 total units of Insulin, to ZERO!!!

I was not just astounded, but also deeply gratified that this man's health is taking a DRAMATIC turn for the better because he had seen the results in me.

We spent almost an hour discussing recipes, products, and online stores. I was smiling broadly that I had found a way to share this with someone that is important to me. I guess now is a good time to mention that he is the man who was my "Best Man" (OK, he outlasted the ex wife) , and also the Godfather to my DS.

You should be smiling, John! What a great feeling it must be to inspire someone like that. Your BIL's reduction in insulin in such a short time is absolutely incredible.

That is such a good story John. I'll bet you were so surprised and just absolutely astonished hwen he not only told you that he was dopign ATkins, but also has discontinued with his insulin. Everyone i know that has diabetes and eats the Atkins way has the same kind of results! It seems to always control our diabetes better. I am hping to totally go off my meds in the next month or so. I just can't even imagine that. For over a year nothing has worked to control my blood sugar-EXCEPT Atkins. ANd it worked in 2 days! Congrats to you for setting a good positive example, anmd congrtas to your BIL- for sticking to Atkins and getting off the insilun! He only has good things to look forward to!

That's great news! I know it's surprising to be an inspiration, but when people see your weight loss and you talk about it, they get inspired... my mother is now doing Atkins, as is a longtime college friend.

I can't tell you how good it makes me feel to hear that your BIL was able to stop his insulin injections. He must be just thrilled - as am I! Another reason to believe that if I keep eating the Atkins way, I might never have to go on Insulin (was able to get off one of my diabetic meds completely and hoping to get rid of the cholesterol and other diabetic meds soon). Thanks for sharing the story!
