Won A Holiday Phone Scam

I have just this minute had an automated phone call for the usa saying that i have won a holiday..
I just put the phone down straight away, but when i went to do 1471 i found that i was still connected..
I then put the phone down again waited a few seconds picked it up -to hear a bloke talking! well in the end I unplugged the phone.
How were they able to keep connected to my phone
anyway- just wanted to let you know that this scam is doing the rounds again-please just put the phone down or unplug it!

Because they phoned you.Unless they hang up-you will still be connected when you pick up your phone again.

I hate these calls
The thing that worries me if there was an emergency & the land line was your only way of calling for help you would'nt be able to call out until this call had finished

got one a few weeks ago too
just hung up warned the kids about it too
as a while back if you pressed what ever number you are asked to you were paying for prim time phone calls
lots of people here got catch out with really big bills

We've had quite a few of these phone calls, and my youngest DD always seem's to answer them , she normally shouts "Mummy we've won a holiday to Florida", she always get's the same reply, "Put the phone down, DO NOT press any numbers!!".

Yes i hate these calls aswell.

Recently some one rang, offering a free holiday, when i answerd i hung up, as soon as i hung up they rang back and said you hung up. this kept going for a few minutes i think they got the hint!
