I was just curious to see if anyone else out there is following the Women's World Cup. It is all my oldest daughter can talk about! We have tickets to Saturday's matches at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro MA, and also for next Wednesday's quarterfinals. I think my daughter may burst before then!
I think that the players are such good role models for young girls. I would much prefer that my children look up to someone like Mia Hamm or Shannon MacMillan rather than most of the pop music singers.
So, any soccer fans out there?

DH and DD (8) are driving right now to go see tonights games. They went on Saturday and had a blast. DD watched the game on Sunday on TV and was glued to her seat.

I love that she's so into this!

Trust me, boys are just as enthralled with the games. I live in an all-boy house and I'm out of luck if ANY soccer game is on! We had the opportunity to meet the Canadian Women's team two weeks ago and they were wonderful with our children and indeed, they are wonderful role models.

We're big time Women's soccer fans. Broke my heart to see the WUSA split up. We went to one of their kickoff games when the league was starting up in October 2000 at The Fleet Center...it was the most exciting sporting event I've ever been to. I bet seeing the Women's Cup would be awesome. I haven't been following the games though...what are the standings? I wonder if there are any tickets left for Foxboro. Wednesday is a double-header, isn't it?

We will see the Canadian team play Japan on Saturday. Their goalie, Karina LeBlanc, was the goalie for the Boston Breakers this year. We had the pleasure of meeting her at a charity event last year. She's very nice and an awesome athlete.

Hey Allie322,

We are a huge soccer family from Massachusetts. My husband and I coach our yougest DD's U8 team, my oldest DD is a goalie and midfielder in college and my son plays U14. DH plays on an over 30 men's league and I just got my associate referee's license last year.

I'm excited too because I'm going to be volunteering at Gillette stadium for the WWC games. As far as I know, I'll be with the medical staff and helping out with the random drug testing.

I've spent the last 3 seasons working in the locker room for the Breakers. They are the most incredible group of women that I've ever met. It was a great experience and I'm so disappointed that the WUSA league has suspended operations for next year.

Hope you enjoy the game.
