Women Who Smoke

I'm very lucky to come from a family where almost nobody smoked.
My father smoked (as did his father), don't know how long, he was a smoker when I was born. He stopped at some point when I was young. My mother never smoked.

Both my sisters smoked. One until the day she was diagnosed with lung cancer. The other stopped a few years ago, after being diagnosed with COPD.

Was there a point to this thread that I am missing?
Point??? Are my thread’s supposed to have a point???
I can't be sure of Angie's point and maybe I'm reading way too much into her post. But I think the point was this.

Women like this are the reason men buy beer.

I already posted back last November that when I retire this year I’m gonna start a new career as an ice shovel girl,

Smoking was still allowed in offices when I started my first real job. You could walk around and tell where smokers sat by the stained drop-ceiling tiles above their desks.
I work for a convenience store chain where cigarettes are still a large part of sales. (But not a large part of profits.). When I started many store associates smoked while serving customers.

These days smoking is supposed to be banned inside, but some still partake in the trash compactor room or other “backstage” areas.

As for customers, there are smokers outpost “ashtrays” outside but there seems to be more crushed butts in the parking lot instead.

No one in my immediate family smoked. My grandfather was a heavy smoker who died of lung cancer when my mom was 13. The only person I know who regularly smokes is one of my friends from college but he's more into cigars rather than cigarettes. I took one puff out of a cigarette when I was 18, thought it was disgusting and have never smoked since.

A few years ago I went to Japan with my friend and we went to a French cafe for brunch. Upon entering, we were asked if we wanted to sit in the smoking or non smoking section. That caught me off guard since I had never heard of a restaurant with a smoking section but I did notice that A LOT of people smoke cigarettes in Japan.

I did not grow up around smokers. My best friend at the time had both her mom and dad smoked. I can still vividly remember being around 7-8, sitting in the backseat of their Camaro, windows up, and being surrounded by the blue smoke of their chain smoking. So, so gross.

My ex was (is?) a smoker and nothing would make me more mad then when he would drop off our daughter who reeked like smoke. No two year old should smell like that. Ever.

My grandmother smoked but by the time I was born she had quit and moved on to chewing tobacco. I think mainly snuff. I'll never forget the sound of her mouth darts hitting the coffee can across the room. "pfffft....PING!!!" Ferocious woman she was. I miss her.

Alas, as everyone probably knows by now, I live with two smokers who think nothing of lighting up in the house. One of them is what I would call 'considerate,' (doesn't smoke around me or my Godson) the other is rude (Doesn't give a rip who is around.) *sigh* I have no say in it, because it's not my house. By installing an under door draft stopper, blocking my heating vent with a cover, and burning a scented candle at all times, I've managed to keep the stink from invading my bedroom for the most part. Neither one of them wants to quit, and I've stopped asking.

My Mom and Dad smoked, so did all of my grandparents, aunts and uncles. They smoked around us kids all the time, and although I never liked it, I didn't consider it strange. It just *was.*
Have you tried an air filter? I don’t have any smokers in my life, so I have no idea how well it would work. For a bedroom, probably wouldn’t need too big of a unit.

Years ago when my kids were little we went to a party for my husband’s extended family. A lot of them were smokers, my 5 year old didn’t quite know what the party was for so she asked “Is this a Smoking Party?” She had never been around that many people smoking, they thankfully did it only outside so we stayed mostly in the house. The little ones would have rather been playing outside.

I remember my mother and her friends sitting around the kitchen table every Sunday for morning coffee and all of them smoking. You could barely see through the cloud. My mother actually quit and lived to be 90.

I also remember when they banned smoking in bars and restaurants in Massachusetts and all the owners were in an uproar about the business they thought they’d lose. Wei in actuality business pick up because more family’s started going out to eat more because of the smoking ban.
I remember going to Friendly's when there were smoking and non-smoking sections. Never really did much good as they were still in the same room.

Both parents smoked. Heck have pictures of my mom bottle feeding my brother smoking. She died of lung cancer and had COPD.

My dad had heart issues. He also smoked a pipe.

Out of 6 siblings 2 smoked but no longer do.

Our house Is smoke free.

We we’re in Las Vegas last month and the smoke in the casinos were so bad.

I remember going to my first gig in Scotland after the smoking ban came into force and thinking there's something different - then I realised I wasn't looking at the stage through a haze of smoke! Don't miss having to strip down and shower after a gig because you stank of smoke 🤮

I lump parents who smoke/smoked around their children in the same bucket as child molesters, they are equally horrible people.

I don't see the difference between the two.

Smoke but NEVER expose your kids to the second hand smoke, have at it, smoke all you want. People should be able to smoke in designated smoking areas if they want.

Just don't make the decision for your kids that they should smoke as well.

Please tell me this is hyperbole or some lame attempt at a joke. :sad2:

Our society did a great job of (mostly) ridding the world of the stench of cigarette smoke. When I took my first flight, there was a smoking section, which of course created a haze that crawled along the ceiling throughout the cabin. When I started my first job, others could smoke at their desks.

I'm just so disappointed that for some reason people are now OK with weed starting to show up everywhere. Many times I pull up to a traffic light and smell it coming from the cars near us. I smell it in stores (maybe employees smoking out back?). I smell it in parking lots. It was all over at our city's Super Bowl parade (with crowds packed in like fireworks viewing at Disney). It really feels like we're moving backwards again.
