Women Over 40 - What is your Makeup Routine?

Frankly Lancomes ad budget isn't any higher than Avon's, it's just that it's targeting the places you are seeing it. Avon's is more spread out. Trust me, it's not cheap to have to print those catalogues every other week, and that's part of an advertising budget. Yup, I do know this for a fact, I have a friend at Avon who used to be with Lancomes parent Co.

Frankly I use Lancome cosmetics because they work for me. I've found the quality in many to be much better than discount store/mass retailer products. I also like their colors, and like the ability to "try before I buy--something you can't do with Revlon or Maybeline, and depending on yoru rep can sometimes do with Avon. I also like that I have stuck with the same Lancome consultant now for almost ten years. She knows what I like and don't, and she tells me when new products come out that I might be interested in but isn't pushy. When I switched to a lot of Jurlique products a few years ago, she didn't take it personally. She's also been helpful when I've felt I needed a change in color or application technique and has made GREAT suggestions.

I can certainly recommend Lancome's Absolu moisturiser. I buy it in France as it's mich cheaper than the UK - not sure what it costs in the US.

Great that you have a professional in your Lancome rep, ducklite. And they do need to charge more to cover their dept. store rent and pay their consultants. I am aware that Avon's catalogs aren't by any means cheap to produce - I used to sell it! I didn't mean to dis Lancome, I'm just saying that it would be very interesting to know the actual cost the dept. store lines pay for their products vs. what they sell it for. Superior ingredients? Maybe and that's great. I am now using Lancome's deep pore masque and Clinique's cleanser because I like them and I think that's the way it should be - buy what you like because you like it and it works for you!

Talking of how costs work out Absolu costs equivilant to $105 in the UK! I buy it in France where, interestingly, French brand costmetics/skincare come in around a 1/3 rd cheaper than here. Now, I like quality, but I'm not about to pay over the odds for it LOL

And I think you're right - in the end you have to spend what *you* feel it's worth to you for a product, and if it suits your skin.

Wish I could find something that would keep my skin moist here in the desert of New Mexico. I just slather on everything, and wait for the next trip to FL to give my skin a moisture break. Since I'm allergic to fragrances, I buy most of my cosmetics at the organic store. I do like Ramy cosmetics, available on-line. They're pricey, but the foundation goes on like silk, and the blush looks sheer and natural. My lipsticks are from Burt's Bees and Ecco Bella. I have to have lipstick, blush, and a little Almay eyeliner to go out in public or I look like a ghost. The rest is only done on special occasions! Diana

Misting your face with water during the day would add much needed moisture. If the spray is fine enough it can also be used over make-up.

Smashbox Cosmetics have a big following in New York I think. I found them on QVC. :p I'm one of the few who love QVC. :o  :p

The Smashbox cream eyeliner sounds like what I need! I've never been good at applying liquid eyeliner well, and it usually comes out looking harsh or uneven. I'm definitely going to try this.

Hocksocmom- I checked the www.smashbox.com website to find who sells it in my area. In the Dallas area, it lists Sephora and Nordstrom as retailers.

My routine (I'm another 40-something) is to cleanse and tone with Clinique products, use Daily Eye Benefits to moisturize around my eyes, mix moisturizer with Clinique City Base cream foundation (it applies very easily and quickly with a sponge).

A dusting of a neutral-pinky eyeshadow, a little blush (I'm very fair and blond, and I need this to look healthy!), curl the lashes and mascara them (the blond thing- they're almost transparent without mascara), swish on neutral-pinky lip gloss.

Sounds like a lot, but only takes a few minutes.

If I want to jazz it up and feel more "glam", I add some eyeliner and some shadow in the crease, and a little deeper lipstick.

ON VACATION- just the moisturizer and mascara!

As another blonde I kow what you mean, I have to add some coour or I look washed out - especially eyes with the blonde lashes.

Wonder if this Smashbox stuff is available in Orlando?
