women in your 30s or older - clothing question

I'm thinking the people who don't have a VALID reason as to why the clothes are inappropriate do have a reason..... They don't look good in them. That has to be why...I mean, otherwise what's the problem with good fitting jeans no matter where they are from?

Exactly, they are "inappropriate" because they don't look good in them.

I'm wondering how many of the 'old people shouldn't dress young' posters own t-shirts with Disney characters, etc on them?

No one ever takes my picture so I don't have many to post except for selfies that I took in my closet to ask someone's opinion about my outfit and no more of those need to be on the internet! I'm sure I wouldn't be seen as 'acting my age.'

I don't even understand how jeans can look like 'teenager jeans' ?

I think it's weird someone would assume that I'd rather buy my jeans at AE instead of Express because I want to look younger... Instead of the fact that Express jeans don't fit me because I have hips and an ***.

They might be referring to low cut or something. But... Since we inappropriate people know...low cut doesn't mean we have the stuffed sausage/muffin top/coin slot thing happening. (Some do. ;) )

I'd really love to see some examples of what some people find so inappropriate in these stores for anyone over 30. :confused3

Because the posts are kind of making it sound like you're picturing this:

When what we're discussing is things like this:

I just don't get it. Clothes are clothes. :confused3 We're not talking about minidresses covered in rainbows and unicorns.

THIS wins best post of all time. :lmao:

Interesting point! :lmao: Although since I'm 30, in favor of all the 'young' stores, and I just bought the awesome Frozen shirt listed on teefury.com today, I must clearly be a walking embarrassment.

I am 45. I have no desire to dress in the same clothes the high school kids are wearing. I do wear some stuff from Old Navy but I am picky. I think the 30-50 age range is a tough one when it comes to clothing. It is either too young and trendy, or too matronly. I shop at Kohls and Target, and get a piece here and there from Talbots, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, Loft, and that's about it v

Wow there are a lot of opinions (some not so nice).

I am in my 30s and I feel that if you can find a pair of jeans that fit you should buy them and wear them regardless of the store.

Tops are a little harder. I don't wear things with logos (never really did though). I guess when my daughters are a little older (still toddlers) this could be an issue!

So in closing - as long as you don't look like you are trying to dress like a teenager wear what looks and fits good.

I would totally wear those jeans and top that were posted above ( reg. jeans and a pink shirt).

My favorite Jeans are Express - am I too old?

Also I buy my husband AE shirts all the time (big logo free).

They are not sized as juniors.

The assertion was that women of a certain age should not shop in the Jr's department, at all unless they are trying to look like teenagers.

Here's what Macy's considers "Juniors"

I own clothing by MANY of these brands.

Alert the presses…I own this sweater

My Macy's card hates you so hard right now.

Macys also has many of those same brands and clothes under their women's category.

The sweater you linked is also listed under womens.

Shame on you.;) I do have to laugh though. I checked them out because they're really cute. "Short" length is 30". I have like a 25" inseam (being 5'1" and having short legs.) The legs of those jeans would be trailing behind me like a bridal train - even with 2" heels!

My dd17 hasn't worn anything from Aeropostale since she was around twelve years old. Abercrombie is no longer "in" with the high school crowd ever since middle school kids starting shopping there a few years back, same goes for Hollister and Gilly Hicks. My dd does shop at American Eagle but would be horrified if I shopped there for myself.

I do like the clothes at AE but I won't buy anything there. I don't want to show up somewhere wearing the same outfit as one of my dd's friends!

I don't shop in the juniors section because generally the clothes are really cheap and almost disposable. I'd rather spend more on my clothes and have them last longer.

Re: the blue v-neck. You can tell that it's from the junior's department because of how it's short on you (not too short or anything, just fits shorter than a similar v-neck in misses sizes would fit). The same shirt would fit a young teen very differently because they wouldn't have the same curvy waist.

I am 50 years old and I spend a good amount of time at AE because my kids like it there. Their jeans are way too low rise for me so I probably wouldn't buy them but if they did fit, sure, why not. Jeans are jeans and I think their jeans are very nice.

Like another poster said, I hate the big logos splashed across the shirt. They don't bother me on a middle schooler but, I have to admit, I've seen a few old men walking around with the huge Hollister or AE log plastered across the front and it just looks weird to me. I don't notice too many women "offenders."

I have two long-sleeved polo shirts I got from AE a few years ago and I really like them. They are very long through the torso, not too thin, and perfect for throwing over my jeans. I like that they have very trim look versus the polos that I used to get at Land's End that could be boxy. They do have the small AE eagle on the pocket. They stopped selling them which is too bad as I would have bought new ones every year.

There are lots of clothes without logos. I've never worn logos, never have and either have my kids.

Actually, that blue shirt is pretty long. It goes completely past my zipper when I wear it with jeans. I just had it tucked into my shorts for my costume.

Just stop. Everyone knows you're trying to relive your youth and look hot in that teal v-neck. ;)
