I think then when a husband or wife cheats, the cheater IS going to pay. If not in the divorce (the non-cheater would get a greater percentage of marital assets, right?), then as the family is torn apart, children take sides, mutual friendships are destroyed, the faithful partner's family is lost to the cheater, home and property is sold, and dreams are destroyed. Even the cheater suffers. Typically, it really is the "other woman" or "other man" who gets to sit there living the best of both worlds. Kinda nice to see them get to pay for the mess they help create. I'm not sure I agree with 9 million dollars, but I do think it is refreshing to see the co-cheater get to see his/her world crumble too.
I do not think anybody should be tied down in an unhappy relationship, but how hard is it to get a divorce before you start sleeping with somebody else?
I agree with everything you've written.
Maybe it'll make people thing twice before engaging in adultery.
