Woman dies after swim at Coronado Springs Resort

Isn't DisneyWorld supposed to be the Happiest Place on Earth?

Why are so many on this board looking for the negative?

It is very unfortunate that this woman died, but she was not young (age 58)

She was swimming alone after the lifeguards are off duty so she took her own risk. It is very very said, BUT

If she is not a relative or friend, why should this pertain to me or anyone else?

I don't mean to be rude at all but this is not a big deal to me.

HOWEVER, if someone dies because a ride is too intense, than that is something that would concern myself and my family.

I am sure I am going to get flamed on this but everyone should really stop focusing on such negative things. I travel to Disney to get away from all of that. So I do hope that when I come back on here later or tomorrow there will be some more uplifting or happier posts.

This is the one place you can count on to get a good dose of holier-than-thou-guilt-inducing comments. I have learned that most of the time it is best to read but not post lest you get your hand slapped. Pretty soon the only ones that will be posting are the ones that already know it all.

:thumbsup2

With a life expectancy of 80 plus years 58 is indeed young to die. Maybe you'll realize this when you are say...57?

The unfortunate part about this whole thing is, that when it hits the news, they never give the whole story. Meaning...what was the cause of death. We end up learning about it later, but in the mean time...everyone blames Disney. For all we know, this woman could of had a few drinks, thought that she was ok to go for a dip and slipped and fell. Or was on prescription medicine and something happened. But whatever the cause, we tend to blame Disney, when in the long run, it's not their fault. But as soon as something happens they close down the ride. And the media is all over it. And as far as changing Mission Space, I'm sure it has something to do with the deaths, not everything. Unfortunately with that ride, until you are on it...you don't know how you are going to react to it.

It's unfortunate for this woman's family as it is unfortunate that it happen while at Disney.

From an ER nurse perspective:
Hmm will it electrocute her??? Isn't she already dead?

If not and you are ever in the situation, and have never been in a CPR class, or it has been a long time don't be afraid to at least try. Something is better than nothing!

Well said! :thumbsup2 To quote one of my nursing instructors: You can't kill a dead person. But you might bring one back.

Never hurts to try.

How proud some of you must be. You can be so disrespectful and then somehow find a dozen excuses to justify this crappy thread and your pathetic comments. Freedom of speech, my ***. Guilt trip, whatever. Grow up. Having a Disney name to hide behind doesn't give you the right to make these comments.

BWAHAHWHAHA! You "holier-than-thou" folks crack me up! Who's "hiding behind" the Disney name? You're funny! Has even one person justified their comments by saying, "Well, since I am in a Disney forum, I am automaticaly protected from being labeled a bad person"? :rotfl2:

It is not unrealistic (or inhumane) for a person to feel removed enough from the death of a stranger to make a crack about a preexisting "issue" regarding inappropriate placement of blame. Sheesh! If I internalized every sad and tragic death I read about in the news to the point where I stopped considering the ramifications of that death, well, I'd slit my wrists within a week!

Go ahead and argue that "this person had a family" or "she was too young to die"... but the fact of the matter remains... None of that affects me (or the OP)... Sure, we might be able to UNDERSTAND that for some people, the death of this person is not a laughing matter... but for 99.9999999% of the world, this woman's death only means more of a debate (by an overly litigious society) about blaming Disney for things that happen REGARDLESS of policies, rules, regulations, etc.

Sure, for a minute I feel sorry for the family of a stranger who dies, but in this instance, I care more about how much the cost of my vacation is going to go up because so many people seem to think tha Disney can control EVERY FACTOR of human existence. :sad2:

And if freedom of speech doesn't give us the right to voice our opinions, what exactly DOES? :confused3

Wow, it's amazing how a woman's death at a Disney hotel can turn into a debate between the "holier than thou" and the "not so holier than thou".

To me, it's just a sad story that I am sorry happened to that woman and her family.

I cannot believe the tone of this thread. :confused3

Maybe because I am "older then 25" I also feel this was a young women who passed. Is it Disney's fault? Absolutely not.... When you swim without a lifeguard that is a chance you take.

I feel very bad for this womans family, and I am sure as other posters stated there are probably deaths we never hear about at the world, none of which are Disney's fault.

Perhaps I'm just not that jaded, that I would automaticaly think of a law suit being brought forward, or to make a joke at this time. However everyone deals in thier own way.

I am just looking forward to my week with the mouse and leaving all the unhappiness of life behind.

Feel free to ignore the story of the woman that died if her death is meaningless to you. Don't post how you don't care because you don't know her. Just keep moving along. Why disrespect her, she didn't ask to be the talk of the Disboards. :sad2:

No one, not one person, has blamed Disney for this poor souls death. This post is beyond disgusting!

I must agree, I didn't hear anyone blame Disney in anyway. And you are right it is disgusting! To basically say that you don't know her so oh well, wasn't me is just disgusting. I'm sure that would be different if it was a son, daughter, mother ,etc of the people saying that they didn't know her, the tone would be alot different because it affected your life but since it didn't lets not show any compasion. This is just sad people feel the way they do.

I've never been trained on the defib.. but was it even a good idea to send electrical currents through a person who was soaking wet? Wouldn't it like electrocute her? Maybe I'll take the training next year.

As for soupy11's comment about someone being trained in the defib: I don't know if it's required for them to be trained it in, but if there is a nurse, the nurse would be more qualified to use the defib than someone who was only trained. And even if there was someone trained with it, it doesn't mean they have to use it. For example, I worked in daycare and I had to be CPR trained, but I would never perform CPR (yeah, I'm a bad person).

We have a defib at work (although I am not really sure why, I work in an office), I know that only a team of trained volunteers are permited to use it if necessary. I saw the people that volunteered though and I friggin dare one of those freaks to come towards me with their electric whatzamit. :goodvibes

My prayers to this ladies family. How tragic for them. :guilty:

I read all four pages in hope of finding out what happened. Instead I get an earful (eyeful) of bickering over what someone else said or meant.

Ok. No one finds her death amusing. However, finding humor, even in the saddest situation, is not unreasonable. I had to make arrangements for the disposition of my own son's body. Did I find that funny? Uh, no. However, when we had decided upon cremation and the funeral director gave us a paper we had to sign, stating we understood that cremation was final, and that once it was done, they couldn't undo it, we laughed our butt's off!! Clearly the situation was not funny, but a detail of it was. It's okay to laugh even when you're sad.

good comment Erin... it sounds like something out family would do also so I agree sometimes it helps to laugh ..everyone deals with grief differently too . sometimes a little darker humor helps you deal with something you never would be able to other wise but i guess there are sadness police along with the every other police on the dis. certainly no threat of unity on here any more
